What have you done to your car today?

Found a rust spot about 2" squared under my bonnet in the engine bay. Its exaclty where the electronic rust inhibitor is. Reason being is that the fuse has been dead for a few years (by the looks) meaning the rust innhibitor hasn't been working :(

Yesterday,

Removed the rear heavy duty springs, and replaced them with custom heavier duty springs. $300 for the springs, and $90 for a set of struts from the wreckers. Put the heavier springs into the wrecker struts, then swap with heavys already in car.

Still sits at the same height, but when it is loaded with all the gear, and the camper, it no longer sits on the bump stops.

Ideally, heavier rate springs require upgraded dampers to control them. Standard worn dampers battle to control standard springs- even harder with stiffer springs

Finished and tweaked my new speaker system. Ran all the speaker wires and everything in the car took about a week. 4 Alpine SPS-600 coaxial speakers being run from a sony amp all from the front output. Sounds incredible. Being run from a great Pioneer 4350 head unit.

Now just have to decide whether to get a sub, tidy the wiring and put the door panels back on.

I always thought that this was the case too. But both the spring supplier, and the installer (who also races cars) said that the shockers did not need to be uprated.

Since these struts are only going to be in the car until the end of September on this occasion, I will leave them as is untill they are changed back to the heavy duty struts. (We are doing a long travelling trip in Sept towing the Cub camper. Melbourne to Perth and returning via train over three weeks).

Well I hope he does not set up his own race car using that advice and expect to win. Dampers control the whole thing. My Impreza has adjustable shocks with standard springs and the difference in settings is substantial. Anyway, you're not keeping them so it probably does not matter. Enjoy your trip

If you need to stop in a hurry- say on a bumpy road- and your car is bouncing over the bumps because the dampers cannot control them, then that is not performance related at all. My Forrie is no performance car, even it is quicker than L Series. The first thing I did when I bought it was to replace the dampers.

It's an L series, are you seriously discussing performance related ride...?

Only some light blemishes on the paint from the initial hit.

$140AUD. Happy with the result.

True, but the L series will be bumping out of control with standard suspension :P

The L-Series is riding rougher with the heavier springs and no load, but that is to be expected. Loaded up it rides ok, better than before, when it sat on the bump stops. I now have wheel travel again while loaded.

Performance in an L-Series, now who is kidding who?

Handling, it still handles better than my HR holden ute!

Had the Outback in for its 200k km service yesterday. All went well. Drive like new!!
Now all I need are some driving lights and some general grabbers and I'm all set.
