What have you done to your car today?

2" receiver mount for cargo rack. Given the hatchie has limited space for firewood, etc.. . It'll give some nice features such as :A place to sit w/ a boat seat cushion , fire wood hauler, table, Beer holder..No need to haul chairs, table..etc..

Looks good mate, im sure it would be very useful. I know a few times I could do with some extra space or a bench when out camping

Aborted changing out the front oxygen sensor (the package containing it that went to Alaska turned up today); annoyingly, I didn't have the socket for it here at the shop, so I'll get to that during the week.

Took some measurements of the trailing arm mounts to see if the Zone Offroad body lift blocks could be used to space them down (see this thread for details of where I shamelessly stole the idea from). It looks like they'll do the job, so next step is to start tracking down a supplier for replacement bolts.

Bolted the whiteline strutbrace on this morning. Looks like it came with it from the factory, just the way I (and the cops) like it.

That's good :).
Look forward to a review in the 'Products Review' section as to any changes you notice in any of the handling characteristics of your new car, on or off road.

I checked out getting a Hayne's 2006 WS manual for Roo2 at Autobarn yesterday. They quoted me $65, new.

Also picked up some metal tyre valve caps, after the scathing comments about plastic valve caps by the WA Police in "Aids to Survival".
Nice black anodised ones, rather than lurid purple that would just invite someone to relieve me of them ... :rotfl:.

Im 35 all round Ratbag and with the load I'm carrying I think I'm about spot on. Perhaps a couple more in front wouldn't hurt. I'm seeing good fuel economy (even with the roof ornament) and the ride is quite good.

Interesting. Specially considering your "roof ornament" that nearly took out our carport cross beam ... Thank goodness it didn't! It would have done some serious damage to your lovely new car if it had. Serendipity works both ways, I have discovered in my long-ish life.

Have you started work on that bit yet?
If you are really determined to leave your OEM bumper behind, I could always pick it up from Geelong. However, you may well be able to sell it to help defray your other costs. Much better if you can do that.

BTW, thanks for your old "sump guard".

I will pick up some of those bloody-minded little push clips from Subaru. I bet I cannot buy them by the bag; or if I can they cost a fortune per bag ... :iconwink: :rotfl:. Cost of car parts is one of those things that irritate me a lot, even though I do understand well the cost of holding inventory, often for many years.

Feel free to post a snap of the new fox if you like.

Have to get the screwdriver out and lever the back off the camera mate. I have never quite figured out how to get the film out of these new-fangled digital thingies ... .

The shot of your roof ornament came out very nicely, as did most of the others. I will send you the personal ones by email (if you send me your email address ... :iconwink: )

Taza I hope this is the end of your bad run of luck.

Yeah. We all have times like this; and flaming good when things run straight for a while.

I had a bad run for about 12 years, and it has taken me well over a year to shake off the feelings of despair and depression that accompanied them. Many different issues, the major health problems being less destructive than the dealings with both local and State governments, on the whole ...

If the dogs start barking again I think I might just let all 3 out and get them! They were barking a few times last night and only do it for a reason, now I know why..
Yes release the dogs

They have an amazing effect on unwanted people (coming on &/or touching your property) trust me, I've done it on a few occasions
All you'll hear is " get him off me  get him off me " in a really high pitched voice :rotfl::lildevil:

Fitted the new mirror to today. Plus the supercharger is ready to go on, just need to weld up a bracket :raspberry:

They do vary in price, depending on which ones you need
Just make sure you're holding on to the counter or better still be sitting down when the tell you the price for all of them :madred:

Thanks for the warning ... :iconwink:; and the advice as to positioning oneself ...
I might try the local wrecking yard first ...

Thanks for that, Mr T

Perhaps get in touch with Greentreefrog too mate, who's a vendor here.

The main problem with the Polycarbonate (??) engine protector seems to be that it is very easy for those little locking plugs to come out.

Same with the forward front "mud flaps". Their whole raison d'etre appears to be to allow any little bump on them to destroy the push clips holding the inner part of the wheel well in place and wreck the corresponding holes in the guard.

Seems to me that it would be a good idea to remove them entirely, and use proper bolts/self-tapping bolts and washers to hold the inner guard in place. Perhaps using suitable plastic inserts from cars made in the 1970s. I think I have some of them lying about somewhere.

Any thoughts, suggestions about this? TIA.

Some w**ker last night broke my drivers wing mirror on the foz
Bloody drunk people!

Upped my tyre pressures to 35 F / 36 R.

See if it helps the handling a bit.
Also notice that the Pirelli P7s are wearing more on the edges than the middle at the recommended pressures, indicating that they are too low ...

I'd go down 3 on the rear and up two at the front- unless you have a heavy load in which case stick close to what you have.

I thought you're meant to have the same pressure all round to prevent the centre viscous diff working hard at highway speed???

Check out fishpond...I got my manual for $25, free postage

Whats wrong with plastic?

After my clutch problems Friday (leaking slave cylinder hose), I had to help my sister with moving some stuff into her new house...no choice but to drive the Foz...with trailer! :(:shake:

Fortunately in my youth I had learnt how to shift without the clutch in an old Mitsi Galant. Put it to good use yesterday, although I was a bit rusty & still used the clutch for some down shifts, taking off in first & changing into fifth. After a few clunky 2-3 changes, I used it for that too.

I hope this is the last time I do it though...I dont think its too kind on the box... :(

Sorry to hear about your clutch woes mate :(.

Even in this day and age, learning to drive on non-synchro boxes has its advantages. Tractors, Jeeps, Landcruisers, Ferraris ...

BTW, thanks for your suggestion. I have ordered the Haynes w/s manual from Fishpond as you suggested. Still $25 with free postage. I'd rather gave the other $40 in my charity tin than it being in someone else's :rotfl:.

As for plastic caps. I searched all the versions of Aids to Survival that I have, and could not find the reference. However, the person who constructed the document put every single piece of text in its own frame, right down to the paragraph heading being in a separate frame from the paragraph it relates to. What a dog's breakfast!! :shake:

Anyway, wherever I read about them, the source suggested that plastic valve caps were all too easily damaged/destroyed when off-road, and suggested metal caps with secondary seals; also to "help" a slowly leaking valve from losing air.

bought a new battery, PCV valve, more wire for the stereo and a 10,000kg snatch strap ($50) Installed the first 2, original PCV valve was clagged ... I feel a difference in the car already... 60 - 80ks in fifth without noticing? I think that's good!

Great to hear mate

My exhaust has split on the foz, mainly from rust.
Getting a new one put on tomorrow morning :raspberry:

G'day Taz

Getting a new one put on tomorrow morning :raspberry:

Oh, poop ...

Roo1 sounded like a truck for about 4 years (a quiet truck ... ) because the people who "repaired" its exhaust didn't do much of a job. They sort of neglected to notice that it had split along the seam on the top of the pipe ...

Finally had it replaced a year or so back. What a pleasure!. The days are long gone when I revelled in the note from the full-bore works extractors and 2" straight through exhaust on my hot Morris 1100 ...
Quite amazing how much racket such a small engine could make ... :lildevil:.

I had a play around with the cargo barrier I picked up recently. It is a "Mycar" Oz certified cargo barrier for a 1997 Fox.

Seems to fit perfectly. I just need to make up some top and bottom brackets to attach the existing fittings to the REAR bottom cargo tie down points and the BABY carrier tie points at the top.

Using the rear bottom points means that the weight of the cargo tends to hold the barrier in place - sort of tied down to itself, if you get my drift ... :iconwink:.

Using the top baby capsule restraints means that there is no drilling involved, or other destruction of the interior finish. These should have a far greater breaking load than the cargo barrier is rated for. They are about 3/16" steel!

I haven't measured it yet, but it appears that it could also be placed behind the front seats with the rear seats folded down. This would involve tying the bottom "legs" to the FRONT bottom tie down points, and running a folding extension back to the baby capsule top points.

It might not be "perfect", but would sure as heck stop almost anything flying around in the car in the event of a prang. If it were as bad a prang as to break these points, I suspect it would be the least of my worries!!.

Thats where I've got my cargo barrier mounted. Right behind the front seats & with the rear seats folded down
However, I don't have 6x airbags, I only have the 4x airbags (2x front & 2x side)
IE: No curtain airbags :iconwink:

Ratbag, do you have 6x or 4x airbags in Roo2 ?
If you only have the 4x, then no worries, but if you have the 6x, you might find that they could interfere with the curtain ones

Just a thought & my 2cents worth :)

Mr Turbo

Thanks for the heads up on that Mr T

AFAICT, I only have 4x bags.
How would I find out if I have another two?

I think they introduced the 6x airbags to the Forry's in late 2005 or early 2006.
I know when they changed to the new look /design (your model aka Roo2) thats when the 6x airbags appeared.
I'm not sure if they were standard through the range, or just for the XT's.
Best bet I think, would be to ring Subaru & ask I guess :)
