What have you done to your car today?

G'day Taz

Some w**ker last night broke my drivers wing mirror on the foz :censored::furious::yell:
Bloody drunk people!

That's a bugger mate. You have been having a bit of a bad run with this sort of stuff lately :(. FWIW (not very much ... ), this does happen to (almost) all of us occasionally throughout life.

BTW, more likely just a plain and simple incompetent driver. Plenty of them around. Trick is to avoid turning into one of them!

Have you had a chance to back out your other plugs and check the gaps?
If so, were they as badly gapped as the first one?

That sucks! I hate stupid &^&(-$#'s.

Yeah I know!

Farrrk :shake:

Do you live on a narrow street or something??

No, the street is actually quite wide. But since I am living with other people in a block of units I have to park ojn the street.
Plus if I park on the lawn the other people in the complex get s**ty a me because it 'kills the lawn'. But anyway.

G'day Taz

Yeah it happens and im sure it won't be the last time. Im just glad they didn't get into the car, got a subaru gearbox in there and 2 superchargers...
But all of those things too heavy to lift, or carry far. Especially drunk :raspberry:

I haven't had a chance to look at the spark plug gaps but did find a quick 20mins to change my oil and filter. The filter hadn't been done for sometime (no where in Geraldton had any in stock ever...) but now she blows less smoke. I did put a different oil in though, so thats something :raspberry:
I reckon they would be badly gapped.

For example im on the freeway, doing 80km/hr and want to merge into another lane quickly I drop straight from 5th to 3rd gear. With the aircon flat out.
Otherwise there is just no power for quick merging.

I have sourced another mirror this morning, picking it up later today :)
But its a waste of $70 though

G'day again Taz

What oil did you change to mate?
I've decided that modern engines (post about 1990; unless "agricultural" hangovers from the past like some American sourced donks ... ) like the "smoothness" of the fully synthetic oils after putting it into Roo2 at the last service. Camry is due for one, and after getting 12.7 L/100 kms on the last tank, it is swapping over to Shell Helix Ultra fully synthetic as well ...

For example im on the freeway, doing 80km/hr and want to merge into another lane quickly I drop straight from 5th to 3rd gear. With the aircon flat out.

Same with Roo1. Heavy and gutless. Third was always my passing gear unless already doing about 130 km/h ... Then I would double de-clutch down into 4th and sink the slipper into it.
In Roo1, I used to refer to the air-con switch as my "supercharger". Always turned it off before attempting a tricky passing manoeuvre.
Roo2 does this automatically when the engine is subjected to load. I love it :). A bit like having a low boost turbo ... :lildevil:.

Otherwise there is just no power for quick merging.

Yeah, it is, I agree. And time, and effort. And a flaming nuisance fitting it, to boot!
Our Camry had a "mirror contact event" many years ago, and ever since the D/S mirror vibrates. Drives me nuts when I am driving it (rarely ... ). It is a complete unit, and if there is a way of pulling it to bits I have never been able to find out how ... :(.

Yeah not fun mate - the joys of inner city/town living! Just wait till you find your car egged!

Bloody drunk people!

It wasn't you by any chance was it? :p

As in "hammered it"??

I've been cleaning, vacuuming and painting welds all day so far... Still got the driver's area to be done, not looking forward to it as I've got all the wiring hanging in that area still... I'll get there though.

Not long now before part start returning to where they should be! I'm getting excited about that :D

Cheers

Upped my tyre pressures to 35 F / 36 R.

See if it helps the handling a bit.
Also notice that the Pirelli P7s are wearing more on the edges than the middle at the recommended pressures, indicating that they are too low ...

Thoughts, anyone?

Ah, after re-reading RB's last bit of his post I now fully understand your hammer Rally. :o

*runs to hide in the shed*

I'd go down 3 on the rear and up two at the front- unless you have a heavy load in which case stick close to what you have.

Thanks, Rally

I'd go down 3 on the rear and up two at the front- unless you have a heavy load in which case stick close to what you have.

Just took it for a quick test at 35/36 F/R. Seems more directionally stable up to 80 km/h (speed limit ... ). Bit bouncy taking 'sharp' 20 km/h speed humps at 50 km/h.
I will try your recommended pressures tomorrow when cold.
Thanks.

Found the source (I think) of my right front suspension clunk: in checking hand tightness of the upper strut mount bolts, one sheared right off in my hand. Guess I know what I'm doing this weekend...

2" receiver mount for cargo rack. Given the hatchie has limited space for firewood, etc.. . It'll give some nice features such as :A place to sit w/ a boat seat cushion , fire wood hauler, table, Beer holder..No need to haul chairs, table..etc..

Sorry to hear about your mirror, that really sucks mate.

You're not wrong about that.

Yes, time, effort & money wasted for something that never should've happened in the first place :madred:

Classic
I've done things like that before myself :bananagunner:

I had a bad run like your having last year. Keep your chin up though taza, things will get better :)

Tell me about it :yell: I've had 3x very close calls in the past 24hrs.
1: A young female idiot ran a stop sign & chucked a right in front of me & just missed me :furious:
2: Then I got run off the road at a roundabout :yell:
3: And finally I was almost slammed into a wall while driving under a bridge, with some %$#@ wit trying to take me out, when they decided to try changing lanes :furious:

And this was all within 5km's of home :rolleyessarcastic:

Regards
Mr Turbo

Fitted a new air cleaner, put four new tyres on, and changed the heater core, in the Bluewagon.

Refitted all four rebuilt struts under the Beigewagon.

Busy day.

Thanks mate.

Yeah I know. I park my car when getting home tonight, parked it up on the lawn near a wall so shes not on the street. Took everything out, except for the heavy darn gearbox whihc wouldn't be going anywhere anyway and folded in my mirrors close to the doors.

If the dogs start barking again I think I might just let all 3 out and get them! They were barking a few times last night and only do it for a reason, now I know why..

Im not worried too much but if it happens again I will be pretty &*^%$% off.

Thats not good to hear mate, atleast you were alert and nothing happened. Ive had a few days like that late last year.

Fitted the new mirror to today. Plus the supercharger is ready to go on, just need to weld up a bracket :raspberry:

Im 35 all round Ratbag and with the load I'm carrying I think I'm about spot on. Perhaps a couple more in front wouldn't hurt. I'm seeing good fuel economy (even with the roof ornament) and the ride is quite good. Feel free to post a snap of the new fox if you like.

Taza I hope this is the end of your bad run of luck.
