What have you done to your car today?

Trying to convince subaru to mail me a $3 spring so i don't need to go to the otherside of Melbourne to get it.

Painted the brake rotors/spacers in heat resistant silver. Did it in a mad rush as a storm was about to hit so bit of overspray...some mud will fix that lol.

Looks good, NL.

As for our two - vacuumed both. How do the manufacturers manage to make carpets that hang on to dirt and crap like an octopus?.

Got the compressor out and blew all the garbage out of the air dams below the windscreens ...

That was yesterday.

Today I washed SWMBO's SH. It takes me roughly twice as long as washing my SG ... Then we had a storm this arvo that covered it with leaves and crap again ... Bit like Homer Simpson having a shave, I guess ... :rotfl:.

Then there was the blackout during the cool change that went through like a rocket late today ...

Tomorrow Roo2 goes in for its new timing belt (etc), plugs, engine drive belts and all that. Basically its major service at 110,000 kms instead of at 125,000 kms. The timing belt is now 7 years old. Better sooner than regrettably late :( ... The alternator and power steering pump belt has split in two lengthwise. I reckon it's trying to tell me something ...

I expect that my plastic will hate me as at tomorrow night!

Yesterday I went 4wding, so all of today was spent cleaning, polishing, clay-baring and waxing my beautiful Subaru.
Unfortunately the weathers looking good for a surf trip up at Lancelin tomorrow, so it might not stay clean for that long.
It's a bit of a never ending cycle.

Nice one, how'd you get the rust off first?

Wire brush then clean with Shellite. I know, I should have treated it but I dont need it to look 100%, just the spacers blend in with the rotor hats.

RB, yep that was a decent cold change that came through. You're supposed to wait till after the storm to wash your car lol :rotfl:

Good luck with the timing belt & service tomorrow :iconwink:

Nice job on the rotors/spacers NachaLuva.

It's always the way isn't it  :o :iconwink:

Most probably
But just think of how much better Roo2 feels, that together with the piece of mind knowing that you'll have plenty of trouble free driving for the many a km's ahead

Spent some more time working on a metal brake (steel metal folder) so i can skin my rear bar with 1.6mm over the rhs support. Rear bar and lift kit is getting there slowly.

I cursed the aftermath of the little Melbourne storm as it left my foz grubby and dirty looking when only a few days earlier I had washed off several kilos of Fraser Island sand  and added a nice layer of wax - dam Melbourne is cold for this time of year.

Got booked in to get new left front cv/shaft changed, it is now making more noise and a slight shudder in the 30 to 40kph range (changed the front right just before going to Fraser)
BTW I saw no other subies on Fraser, 1 X-trail, a couple dune buggy vdubs, and everything else was Toyota and patrols, had no troubles ( but did see several oversized behemoths having trouble).
Fraser has had no rain for many months so tracks are extremely soft (think shin deep soft sand), tracks are extremely cut up and very ordinary at the moment.

On the up side of being back I enjoyed looking at the sand left in my foot wells from Fraser while stuck in Traffic going past the G, will need to vacuum next ...

Douglas,
That was a horror storm the other day. Got caught on the Black Spur and suffered minor bonnet damage ( any dent is expensive to remove) due to falling branches.
How did your new spring strut set up perform ?

Took the Foz for a swim:

It slipped sideways into a deep hole I didnt see as I was following an FJ40 along the Goulburn R (yep that "creek" is the top of the Goulburn R. lol). Needed a snatch out as the FL tyre was up against a large boulder & I didnt want to risk damage. Carpets on the passenger side got good & wet so next job: block up the drainage holes!

Still got to put the bullbar & driving lights on then find a winch for it. So bit more to do but its getting there

The muddies were great, had heaps more grip on gravely climbs plus gave ~3/4" clearance. But they're awful onroad with horrible grip. Guess I'm just used to the Geolander ATs which have pretty good grip.

Cant wait to try em in the slippery clay we get here :monkeydance:

Great to hear the muddies performed well & you're liking them on the dirt etc.

Installed a new alternator, alt. belt, A/C belt, and did an oil change. All within two hours, including the trip to get the new alternator. Wish all jobs were that easy, Thank You Subaru!!!

Picked up the car after a new front left drive shaft went in, the final slight drone above 70kph has now gone, so much happier.

That is impressive in under 2 hours, to do al that work

Those muddies look awesome

Havachat that is stink about the dent, falling branches can be lethal so better off a dent than something more serious.

I can confirm the new springs and struts performed brilliantly getting to Fraser Island and while punting around on the Island, made an enormous difference when loaded.

This evening I finally vacuumed up the sand off the seats, next I need to get the service center to put a new lower control arm ball socket joint in as the current one has a cracked cover cap and is now knocking/rattling a little.

Have started to contemplate a fridge and second battery as they would be very handy while traveling with the family.
