What have you done to your car today?

Its so much fun putting all the little springs, etc together in the handbrake drum. Just when you've almost got it together one of the little springs will fly out & it all falls apart... :rotfl:

I also re-routed my cable over the top of the moustache bar while I had the cable out, keeping it away from rocks

Yep i also did the same thing while i was at it. Putting the handrabe components together took me quite a while, would have been much better with a second pair of hands.

I put in second hand stuff which i think was a bit of a mistake. The drum is pretty heavily streaked, either way i'm not getting much bite with my handbrake...

^ Good work, Will .

(Yesterday) I discovered that Roo2 has a two-piece alternator etc belt ... :(. It has a complete split running longitudinally right around the belt. Both halves are still there though. Quite remarkable, really. Far better design than the old style V belts.

Booked it in for that, a normal service and the timing belt service, with Ross yesterday. Goes in to hospital on the 6th January.

I expect this to cost quite a lot ... New platinum plugs, timing and alternator belt - plus other bits and pieces. Basically the 125,000 km service at 110,000 kms. A bit early by mileage, but a bit over time by years.

Looking forward to seeing that will, my rear bar is just sitting in the shed resembling a pile of scrap steel atm .

Thats interesting about the belt ratbag, I did the 200,000k service early at 180k on Blinky including timing belt. That was because the front cam seals were leaking 1ltr of oil a day though, full kit including new fanbelt and cam seals and service for $500ish iirc. That was all at a rural garage locally as well, he does good work, one of his idiot apprentices on the other hand does complete **** work

Gidday Id

I expect it to cost a lot more than that, mate.

Ross has a big workshop to maintain, with a lot of specialised equipment. Overheads are also a lot higher than in the country. Rates, taxes, rents (or imputed rents ... ). I don't think an idiot apprentice would last very long with Ross, somehow!

Of course the other aspect is that the later models have a whole lot more crap to remove and refit. I was surprised to see that NL's SF was little different from my '93 Impreza in that regard. Very simple by comparison with my SG, with lots of working space around everything. The SG with the EJ-253 is a horse of a quite different colour altogether!

Hope that you and yours have a happy and safe Christmas and New Year, mate.

Make sure you have a good look at the water pump while you're at it.
If it does need changing, you might as well do it at the same time while you're in there :iconwink:

Regards
Mr Turbo

^ Yeah, Mr T, he is well aware of the necessity to check the water pump, tensioners and all that sort of stuff. I trust Ross to do things properly. He is a careful, thorough man. As he freely admits, he has occasionally had to redo work, but not very often. As I said to him, it has also happened to me. Not for want of care, sometimes these things just happen. Bad hair day; phone call at the wrong moment - the list of causes is almost endless.

Had that problem with Roo1 when it had its 200K km service. I told them that the water pump was noisy. They pulled the timing belt out. Reckoned they checked the water pump, then they had to pull it all down again because the water pump was rooted ... I only paid them what it would have cost had they done it while the front of the donk was apart - about $125 for the pump, and $50 labour ... That was a Subie stealership ... :(.

You don't have to tell me about Subie stealerships after what happened to me a few months back :catfight:

Regards
Mr Turbo

^ Quite, Mr T.

It is good that both our 'new' cars are being attended to by Ross now.

His charges are reasonable, and he is as honest and decent a chap as the day is long. This is my considered opinion after some 15 years of dealing with him. NOT something I say lightly about anyone, in any circumstance.

touched up some paint chips and gave the car a polish this morning, polished out all the scratches up the d/s door from my pager scraping on the paint. Polishing is a sucky job

Did the clutch in my Brumby yestersay. Got a whole clutch kit for $240. Installed it in 5.5hours with my girlfriends help. Fairly happy with that even with the few issues we had doing it.

Finished my head unit install today. Its a Pioneer DEH-X2650UI. Pretty basic but has all I need: CD, radio, USB, it even has a remote for camping lol. I cheated a little installing it by using AerPro connectors lol. Bit expensive but a great way to save headaches

Looks really good, NL.

Should give you many hours of enjoyment.

Nothing like crawling up those hills at Bunyip listening to beautiful music ... :iconwink:  .

Nice to have that extra space to mount a CB underneath. As you know, mine is a double DIN unit, so nowhere to mount a CB ... :(. I guess it's nice to have the in-unit six stacker though :). Maybe I ought to rip out the ashtray/cigarette lighter unit and put one in there instead? Then mount the power outlet somewhere more useful.

Nice work, I've used the AerPro connectors in my last couple of cars so i could take the head unit and put the stock one back in when i sold them. I didnt bother with the foz as it had some crappy clarion unit put in with bullet connectors so i just used those

Taza... did you have a big night?

P.S. Happy 2014 Everybody. May it bring every happiness :-)

Best regards,

Oh I mean in my Brumby. Lol
Not the foz. That has central locking.

No I didn't Scooby. I'm probably one of very few 20 year old's who didn't get really drunk. I had a big day today puting up my new shed. I spent yesterday cutting down a massive tree at home so I wasn't in the mood for a big night.
However I left my Brumby parked on the front lawn with the keys in thwarted ignition and doors locked all night haha
I didn't even realise till the morning!
