What have you done to your car today?

I managed to do this on Sat LOL

Not as bad as it looks. I just managed to hit the weakest part forward of which is only there to hold on the plastic trim and is secured by two rivets so it deformed a lot. Had always planned on having some proper steps/sliders made, now I have an excuse.

Ouch !!! :yell:
But as you said, now you have a good excuse to get some proper steps/sliders made

218,000 km service

With the 'New year close-down' over, I finally managed to organise my schedule for the 'big' service for my 05 model year (04 build) n. a. , manual 4 cylinder Outback.

No sign of wear on the toothed sign of the timing belt, but the placement of the 'teeth' was becoming visually distinct from the other side.

In went the belts, pulleys, tensioner & plugs supplied by Hondaslayer in September last year. Also had a new water pump fitted, given the kms the original has pumped, and the cost to pull down & refit belts etc to replace the pump at some stage in the life of the new belts!

Sourced the sound of my annoying resonating rattle ... something to do with 're-shaping' the SubaXtreme sump guard between the Dig Tree & Innamincka. ;)

Radiator hoses were still OK, so have stored the new ones for later use.

Am now ready for towing my camper trailer. :monkeydance:

^ I did this 18 months ago in the granitic country behind my pero's joint. I didn't even know I had done it til I got home... Its still there now and I'm not going to do anything about it either - its become one of those odd features of my subi.

The other thing I did the other day after getting home from SA covered in sand and remenants of a sea side environment was put Ruby Scoo through one of those automatic car washes. We went for the $14 "extreme" wash with wax and spot free rinse. I found out my door window seals up front arn't as good as they should be... A towel sorted out that problem.

I'm sold on that system, the subi looks like new if it removed the scratched paint and the odd dents like the one above! Couldn't believe it. I'm still

Cheers

Damn that tyre is bald. Reminds me of my uni days, except mine had wire 99% of the time

I haven't done it yet...but if I post up here than I have to, right???

I AM finally going to change my "I'm embarrassed:redface: to admit how many miles overdue" oil today. First, since I was unemployed I couldn't afford it, then we've had all this crappy weather, today should be OK.:)

Yesterday I got the garage cleaned up enough to get YotaRu in there, then I got my skid plate off, this is half the battle, Today I have no excuses.

The deed is done!!!:woohoo: I now have a much happier YotaRu, even ran through the car wash. Nice and shiney clean...at least until I go drive again with all the salt on the roads.

That was back in my uni days. I think I had new tyres booked for a week after that trip - I was happy to kill some bald tyres, but I'd be kicking myself if I killed a new tyre...

Carl, good feeling eh? Glad you've got it sorted, now you can relax. Ruby Scoo's up for another oil change soon - last time I did it was november!

just the usual maintainence...

Changed my heater hoses, upper rad. hose, bypass hose.

Wired in a 1/4w 270 ohm resistor for my wat. temp gauge(EJ swap).

Rebuilt a ea81 rear axle swapped the shaft to ea82 DOJ on each end(rear axle) spare.(abit more travel than ea81)

Organized my hatch in the rear with ammo boxes.

Installed another 3 port 12v accessory socket (rear of hatch)

Installed rear window aux. heater/defroster ( the old defroster isn't up to par )

New rain-x wiper blades(front)

Then went up in the hills to try out my new mud terrains

Once home I bbq'd a steak and had a frosty brew...

Not only do I feel better, but YotaRu is running much nicer now. This year I've got a bit of work to do, rebuild the front end first, then I've also got to catch up on all the other regular maintenance that should have been done this past year. Not too much, but it should be done before wheelin' season starts happening.

Bought a whole bunch of wires, resistors, buzzers, switches etc to put together a switch for the centre-diff lock mod(from the RS25 thread), and also a switch for the radiator fan cut off switch (I was planning to get them done before the Colo River trip with the NSW Subie Club). Now I think I have most (if not all of the necessary components) and no idea of what I'm doing. Next step: find someone to help with the work; since I vowed never to do my own auto-electrics again. Oh and after visiting two auto-sparkies, neither wanted to touch the car.

Regards,

Joel

Today I picked up my long awaited Staun Tyre Deflators, and bought an Ezy Wrench for my wheel nuts while I was at it.

Is this what you used to bring the factory EA dash guage back in line to what it would have been with the EA sender? If so do you know if the sender units between the EA81 and EA82 are the same? I'm guessing they are, and if so this little trick that you'll have to tell me more about will fix my dash guage - I've got an EJ as well and would like the guage to behave as it used to.

Any info you have scooby would be muchly appreciated!

^ 6 is easier :iconwink:

Yesterday Wholesale Suspension installed new control arm bushes in the front. One bush was oozing. SuperPro poly for arm rear bushes and Whiteline poly for front arm bushes. The SuperPro are offset to give better caster for a lifted vehicle.

How so Kevin?, keeping the tyres paired as the are rotated?

An expensive way of doing it.

Is there any problem rotating with 5? I am intending to rotate every 5000 km (about 7 weeks for me) is that likely to result in too much of a discrepancy between tyres?

No problem rotating with 5 - I carry a 2nd spare on my outback trips so I have 6 anyway. I think your frequency of rotation is just fine. When I rotate mine I measure tread depth to determine which wheels to use and where to position the wheel, i.e. deeper tread to the front.

Reminds me that I should check mine!
