What have you done to your car today?

Well, not to my Forester but for my forester....

Yesterday I found an old Engel 29 Litre green top fridge and gave it a test over night last night with my new portable battery box. Had it on for 18 hours and the battery was still at 12.1v and my water bottle was frozen, so it still worked well, but 30 years of battering in my folks old Nissan Urvan has left it in a pretty unsightly state!

I couldn't comprehend the thought of having all that rust in the back of the Subaru, so today I cut it back to metal, cleared off all the surface rust and gave the top a nice new dark grey metal finish and the handles an aluminium finish :) The base will need to be done another day!

Just leaving it all to set properly before putting it back together.
The old internal cage was also a mess with the plastic cracking and metal rusting so I contemplated getting it recoated but found a couple of baskets at Bunnings that fit in there perfectly without taking away too much space.

Looking forward to putting it back together tomorrow :)

wouldn't say ive improved my subie but i am selling one tomorrow to clear up mum lawn :rotfl:
but once again more trouble with my car! the engine light has come on the 04 forester. unsure why as im not near the car (had my partner call me up telling me). i really hope its just a oxygen sensor or something simple otherwise it wont be in our garage much longer

I'll 2nd that Ratbag & nice job too Jacko :)

Thats not good to hear thunder039 :sadbanana: Hopefully it's like you say, just something simple & an easy fix :)

Regards
Mr Turbo

Nice score and great job Jacko.

I installed a new coil pack, leads and spark plugs in the liberty this week, now the check engine light comes on a quarter of the time it used to, I even have more power. I love eBay $121 for a coil pack delivered

I also found out that the rear suspension adjustment bolts have never been adjusted and have seized, and it is currently shredding left rear tyres so I am now up for two new tyres and the labour to remove and replace the bolts which I have informed is not an easy job. Bugger

Can you give a link for the coil pack?

I'd make a head start on the bolts by soaking them in some Penetrene...amazing stuff! WD40 works too but you cant beat Penetrene :iconwink:

Altough it is freezing cold in my garage, I replaced the rear muffler with a smaller universal absorbtion muffler. I had to do this because the old one had a big dent in it and was cracked. The mid section must be welded or replaced. I hope it can be welded because that is an expensive part.
I will do that when it is a little warmer.

I glued my leaking radiator.it is cracked nearby the top water inlet.
Because of the cold weather the 2 component glue did not wanted to dry:( big change that i will have to replace the radiator.

thought i would report back on this issue.

Had the car looked at, and to my suspicion it was an oxygen sensor. I cant remember which one but he said it was the one that is heated, as it isn't getting hot enough. I assume this is the oxygen sensor before the CAT???

anyway the code was cleared so will be getting it replaced hopefully next month as I have a road trip in May for my graduation and a music festival. So want the car to be reliable.

Today i measured up and started drawing up plans for a rear wheel carrier. plans a swing away style carrier and to have it bolt on above the towbar and protrude out two holes in the bumper. probably weld some plate onto the towbar and have it bolt on through a pad of sewer mains gasket to work as an isolation mount.

Wouldn't really know. Have only driven it 1k since it was cleared. Maybe I just don't notice it because of my exhaust... I already have to buy an exhaust (getting genuine from the wrecker) so was going to buy a oxygen sensor at the same time if there a good price. Just have to figure out which one I need. so if some1 could help out my question( from 2 post above) that would great!
