What have you done to your car today?

To make yourself feel better, just think of our fuel bill:biggrin:

Well I would probably get better economy than what I do now...

I currently get 360km or there abouts to a tank, I go through a tank and a half a week. $70 to fuel up...

Raced a early SG foz XS this evening on my way home from work onto the freeway... I was flat out and from taking off from the lights and getting to 100km/hr he was about 6 or 7 car lengths in front :( Can't wait to have my 2.5l in!

He had a big cannon exhaust with a great note  Might have to look into one that doesn't drone oneday

Cleaned it :) then my son decided it wasn't clean enough

Wow, Carl! That sure is a big change! Congratulations to Laurie on the new work-hauler.

Been wondering about that CVT with the flappy paddles. Not exactly the 6-speed stick that I would ideally want. But it's got to be better than that tired old 4EAT! :poke:

Thanks Escher.:)

So far, I'll give the flappy paddles a solid "meh", not the nice solid slotting into gear I had hoped for. After it has hit the 1k mi. break in, I'll give it a good run when I can wind it out a bit more. Overall, I like the CVT, nice and smooth, not as strange as I imagined without the gear changes.

well havent done anything to my car today, but i have made plans to.
driving around the carpark i heard the dreaded clicking sound while turning right. looks like a new CV is on the ever growing repair list :shake:

what are peoples preference on were to buy CVs?

Oh, bugger, mate.

Our usual mechanic (Ross) fitted re-co shafts at various times to both the Camry and Roo1 at the front - for some strange reason, the rear boots never got damaged on Roo1?? IIRC, he charged about $250 for a fully re-co shaft, change over, fitted. His number is (03) 9551-2402.

Mordialloc Wreckers can probably sell you a s/h shaft for less than that, but there are no guarantees with s/h shafts/CVs :(

I noticed this morning that one of the running lights I installed has condensation on the inside of the lens, I have sent a message to the seller and we will see what they do. Hopefully they won't just think they have got good feedback and ignore me and they will just replace the unit.

Thats not a good sound to hear thunder039.
Just make sure you don't get a cheap imported one as a replacement.

Hopefully they won't fob you off & just send you a brand new one.

Regards
Mr Turbo

I still haven't heard back from the supplier, might be a good idea not to buy from him until I get some form of response. I would expect a business would have replied to me by now

Gearbox removed in about 4 hours, solo. Probably wasted about 45 mins under the car wondering if i really could be bothered and if i should take it to a mechanic instead :)

I know exactly what you mean ...

After spending a couple of hours pulling the front suspension to bits in my Austin Kimberley about 30 years ago at night, in the driving sleet and (just) sub-zero temperatures at Mt Barker (in the open; no protection at all), I swore I would never own a car again that I had to work on myself; or that cost a fortune to have others work on ...
I haven't ...

There simply comes a time when one gets sick of doing that; for many of us, at least.

Hope that the repair/replacement goes well for you.

Must be the time of year for CV's to go... I've done a front boot :(
I'll just get a new shaft and through it in. New shafts worth $180...

Took my car to Pedder's Suspension for a 29 point suspension check... Found a few things wrong, broken gearbox mount(which I was pretty sure I had anyway), front shocks got a 2 out of 10 rating (5/10 is a pass and I knew they were buggered)..
Rear shocks have had it and they have only been in there for 55,000km!!! I guess all the gravel roads and offroading have worn the KYB's out pretty quick. One front and one rear shock are bent. Front swaybar bushes and endlinks are knackered too..
Will post up the printed out sheets of the tests they did...
One thing I found that surprised me is that when weighing my Forester it weighs 1625kg!!! :surprised: It's full of about 100kg worth of extra crap(motor parts, extra oil, rubbish, rope, 2 spare tyres, etc..) All the extra modifications add up I guess(bullbar, big tyres, lift kit, roof racks/awning, stereo, etc..)

Done my 200,000km service; gearbox and rear diff oil, washed car, checked brakes and fluid, new clutch fluid, hand brake adjusted, rotated tyres and just went over the whole car. Not bothering about the engine as that is coming out soon for the new EJ25

sounds like once you have your new engine in your going to have to spend a bit of time doing the suspension.
how long did the CV's last with then new lift?

one thing ive noticed with subaru suspension is that its weak as piss, and really doesnt take the hack from rough roads too well. i noticed that i have another slowly leaking rear strut also. one more to add to the to do list lol

You're not wrong thunder, I found a bent rear sway and end link under mine and no event comes to mind where it could have happened.

Perhaps we're asking more of them than Fuji intended.
