What have you done to your car today?

BTW the 2.0l manifold does bolt directly on the 2.5l block so anyone looking for cheap, easy power gains in a SF foz I'd recommend this! You don't have to rebuild it or do the extra stuff I am. It's basically a bolt in modification that'll give you 30-40% more power and 40+% more torque with very similar fuel economy.

Good to hear. What mods need to be done to the wiring loom?

Finally got my loyalty badges in and put them on over the weekend.

Awesome

Finally changed the diff oil today (thanks to Ratbag for providing the diff plug tool). The top plug wasn't too bad but the bottom plug wouldnt budge, even using a 24mm spanner as leverage. Eventually used a trolley jack to undo it...no way would it have come undone without the tool, it would have rounded the plug for sure!

I was surprised to find the oil wasnt an emulsion as I had expected. I think its still pretty rooted though so I'll have to get a new diff...on the lookout for a vLSD!

On thinking about Oswina's rear diff. I reckon that it was over-filled (with fairly nasty looking diff oil - or it was diff oil once upon a time ... ), and this was causing it to throw oil out the breather, specially when under stress (like tackling the Gentle Annie Track ... ), making the diff housing look as if it was leaking at every gasket.

Maybe wash the housing down with degreaser, then see if any more oil leaks out?

According to the Haynes Manual, the oil is supposed to be at the level of the bottom of filler plug hole. Yours bled quite a bit out of that plug hole after the filler plug was removed. No water in the oil, ergo the diff had been over-filled at some point. It wasn't enough of a slope to cause that much oil to spill, IMO. Perhaps it was facing downhill (e.g. on chassis stands at the rear?) when filled originally?

Sorry I couldn't be more practically helpful today, but I wasn't exactly dressed for the occasion, was I ... :rotfl:

plan on doing mine tomorrow when i service the car. hopefully i dont have to much trouble as i only have the 1/2 inch bar for now...

I did this and had a 1.5m steel extension pole on my breaker bar(1/2" drive). That reminds me that I need to change the diff oil in my new diff... haven't done it since it's been in the car.

Put some speakers in my rear doors of the Foz. Didnt have any in since the stockers 2 and a bit years back. Only even in the front, sounds heaps better now.
Got Alpine S-Type 4" once. Hooked upto my speakers amp. They go pretty hard, couldn't be bothered cutting, drilling and everything to fit any bigger size other than standard in there..

A solution occurred to me last night.
Wrap one or two layers of insulation tape around the 1/2" drive so that it fits snugly in the diff plugs.
The misfit is only 0.30 mm overall (12.7 mm vs 13 mm), so should be fine.

I installed LED daytime running lights

I even hooked them up legally so they turn off when the headlights go on

Sounds like you're enjoying your new speakers Taza :iconwink:

Nice work with the LED daytime running lights OutbackOiler. Very neat :)

changed the engine oil and filter today in the forester.
also did the rear diff. i didnt have to much trouble, i smacked the plugs with a hammer first to loosen up the seal- i think this helped. i used the following bottle to fill it back up :raz: worked a treat!

wasnt a great deal of metal on the plug but the color of the oil was very average

ratbag that sounds like a good idea just to make up for the 1/2 mm short in size

Hey Thunder

Your filler bottle came from a similar shop to the one mine came from ... Mine has "Morning Fresh" printed on the outside ... :iconwink: .

Always remember to have a bit of wood between the hammer and the nut, just in case one mis-strikes ...
When dropping the ball joints out of my Kimberley lower control arms a very long time ago, I used my left index finger between the single-jack sledge hammer and the lower control arm. The first time led to a predictable stream of the magic words. The second time I hit it in the same place a few minutes later, I can't remember quite what I said ... Something like "Oh, dash it all" ... or words to that effect :rotfl:

Polished up Nubaru a bit......look what we found...

2013 Outback:monkeydance: CVT with flappy-paddle 6sp.

Wow, Carl! That sure is a big change! Congratulations to Laurie on the new work-hauler.

Been wondering about that CVT with the flappy paddles. Not exactly the 6-speed stick that I would ideally want. But it's got to be better than that tired old 4EAT! :poke:
