What have you done to your car today?

I ordered a couple more things for Rusty to hopefully help out. I also dropped off the spare head and block to the machine shop so that they can sleeve my block and freshen up the head so I can build it :) I have a VF11 on the way and I am just searching for an inexpensive RRFPR for the build. Hope to be pushing around 115 WHP and around 135 WTQ. I am not going for big power, just more "umph" on the trails and hills ;)

My sump guard has no spacers at the rear either, the subaxtreme instructions meantioned spacers but when i called them, they said they now make 2 different brackets one that hangs 10mm lower just for diesels. so fitted up no issues without spacers.

Interesting re the diesel bracket - my instructions said it was the same bracket, and it came with spacers that I didn't need... I'll have a chat to David next week.

Today I finally got around to mounting a fire extinguisher under the drivers seat. Doesn't impede the seat movement, doesn't tangle with my feet, easily accessible when sitting. I bolted it to the T-bracket that holds the floor mat in place, so no holes required.

Nice one sjm :)

It's good security knowing it's there, however, lets hope there never comes a time when you need to use it

Fantastic Fly :raz:

You'll have to post a pic of it now that it's had the lift installed :)

Drove my first dead stock 07 XT today. 2.5l turbo and manual. God I thought it was slow!

In comparison to the turned 2.5l turbos and V8 Commodores I've been in lately...   :iconwink:
It went alright, certainly didn't have any issue getting 3 digits on the speedo in the back streets. Even had some go when you hit boost mid corner but it wasn't real exciting... lol

I am having turbo envy... again  It's not fair, I want one. But after driving a new Ford Ranger I want the torque of the 3.0l turbo diesel now :lildevil: Then again the power of a modified turbo 4 banger would be nice....

But I'll stick with my 2.0l SF for now and live with my new 2.5l SF soon. One day though, I'll have a real car

^ The Hilux's I have driven at work are slow in comparison to the Ranger/BT-50 and even Triton. They all have about 50nm more torque than the Hilux and more than the Navara's again :surprised: :lildevil:

They are only 30-35k for a 2010 one or there abouts. It's not too bad considering a 2010 XT is about the same...

If I won the OzLotto 100 million that was draw on Tuesday gone, the first thing I would of bought was this L-Series I've been looking at... lol In mint condition, 2 owners since new and FULL service history from new with 310k on the clock.

Gidday Everybody

Does naughty boy wish to keep his licence?
Let alone how you live with yourself if you kill someone ...
Put quite simply, the roads are too crowded to do these things these days; and caused a lot of my young friends to stay forever young in my youth ... Out of a matriculation class of about 70 kids, 12 were dead in road "accidents" before we reached 20 y.o. Somewhat sobering, I would have thought.
In those days, there were few police around either, with no radar, sidewinders, amphometers, average speed computers for point to point speed measurements, etc, etc.

Like all turbos, there is a downside.
Like all cars, driving them hard usually ends in big repair bills.

But I'll stick with my 2.0l SF for now and live with my new 2.5l SF soon. One day though, I'll have a real car

It is currently a "real car" Taza. With the 2.5L N/A it should be far more pleasant to drive in all circumstances. As Mr T has repeatedly mentioned, the N/A donks are better off-road than the turbos, in most circumstances. That is what you love doing - going off-road; so it should suit you just fine.

i know what you mean :lildevil: ive been driving a few navara's and hilux's around and im green with envy  but then i look at the purchase price compared to the forester and my mind soon changes quickly :rotfl:
Yeah. $20K extra to buy a TRUCK!! :(

Punt those trucks through the twisties though and their inadequacies soon become apparent.

Or even when not punting them. Trucks are trucks. The ADRs are different for truck-based vehicles, and those differences include almost every aspect of handling and road manners that most of us appreciate so much in our cars ...

true but you can pick a good SG for 15k :lildevil:

Quite right. Even a top quality, low mileage MY06+ DR/MT from a reputable dealer can be had for about $17~18K.

I had an 07 Ranger and it was fantastic but did not suit my needs in the end. They have a down fall though, if you work them hard the gearbox usually explodes :lildevil:

Every vehicle (or anything else ... ) has its advantages and disadvantages.

I am wedded to Subarus because their advantages far outweigh their disadvantages for me.

Some fine points discussed in this thread Ratbag, but this last one resonates with me. My Subaru Capital Investment Portfolio (yes, I consider them an investment) for 11 years of good honest reliable service (with very few headaches) has consisted of the following:

1984 Wagon 1800 $1500 + 1995 Liberty 2200 $8,500 Total: $10,000
Both cars were serviced every 10,000kms and had what I would call routine maintenance done as and when required.

This year, I added another Subaru to my Capital Investment Portfolio.. 2000 Outback 2500 $8,000

I plan to retire the 84, put the 95 on light duties and have the 00 as our main family car, & think that based on previous Subaru investment to get around 8-10 years more running out of Scooby2. So my thinking is this... 18-20 years motoring for a capital investment of all up $18,000 in 3 cars is in my reckoning why so many people... including Ratbag... are wedded to their Subarus! Most definitely Taza, you will not be disappointed with the 2.5. I am very happy with the latest Subaru addition to our family - fully loaded with 5 people, enough food, drink, camping gear AND instruments (2guitars) for 3 days away, you would not know she was even loaded.

In the last week I've had my rims powdercoated satin black, fitted yoky geolandars and painted the letters to break up the black.
