What have you done to your car today?

Taza, a complete new diff for you?
If the diff case still ok?
If so, I'm still after one for my LSD Build-up...

There's a complete diff on an SF at steal a part on Sydney road looked pretty straight when I pulled of the towbar

That's pretty harsh to strip teeth, but the fox diff isn't very strong To begin with. Lucky that's all to break I saw one in a 75 series spray shrapnel on the fire truck falling in a rut on the rev limiter. Probably time to address the whine in my diff at 3,000 rpm instead of turning up the radio

Installed my tablet mount! I purposedly installed it out of my field of view. I want it at hand, but I know myself: if it's in my FOV... I'll play with it while driving. And crash. And I don't want that :) Oh, and I'm always drinking coffee, so mounting it on the vents would block the cup holder but also the airflow (and with the winter coming... I want to make sure I get all the hot air I can! ).

So I put it close (a bit similar to those in police cars) but on hand when I stop on the side of the roads. This is NOT for navigation while driving, but more to have a bird's eye overview of the location, mainly with the topo maps, but also my music library (I'll see if any Bluetooth remote is available to change songs, that'd be awesome).

Good on ya thunder. Have fun.

Does your awning block the struts that hold out the window awnings on the tent?

thanks guy's 3 years did go very fast!

the windows will open over the front and rear of the car and the main door with ladder on the drivers side.
my partner and myself are really looking forward to the trip. its our reward for both finishing uni and our 21st next week

Radiator shroud mockup (going to have a small run produced for the Justy forum guys), multiple brackets and such sent out for powdercoat at the moment. I will be doing more and more now that I have my DD back in my hands.

after a camping trip to the beach last night, i noticed my gear changes weren't the smoothest.
so today i changed the gearbox oil, some metal and grease grim on the plug, more then i thought seeming it was only done 15,000ks ago! it does change through gears much better now, especially back into 1st and into 5th

i also wanted to do my rear diff oil as i have never done, but i couldnt get the plugs undone. any tips??? they are f'n tight and there isnt a lot of room under there for a breaker bar (i dont have ramps)

Jack the car up, put a breaker bar with an extension on it on an angle to the ground then lower the jack slowly, that should break the seal. I have only done that with the rear strut before but the principal is the same. This is also assuming the bolt faces the back of the car:biggrin:
I haven't done my rear diff yet so I'm not sure where the plug is on the housing if it faces the ground you will just have to use a breaker bar and try not to blow your foo foo valve:iconwink:

Just remember the slowly part, if you slip and let it drop quick it could end up tragic
You also don't want to know how to undo the pulley on the end of the crankshaft it's a scary but effective method

El Pedorro's projects

El Pedorro has been stymied on his front towbar project.

In the meantime, he has been preparing for the addition of an aux battery. So far, an existing cable for a rear winch has had the following items spliced in:

1. 80 amp switched circuit breaker in the engine room.
2. 100 amp isolator solenoid, operated by the ACC side of the ignition switch
3. 6-slot fuse panel in spare tire tub.
4. 2 separate 50 amp circuit breakers in spare tire tub. One for fuse block,
one for winch.

Lotsa detail in Member Journal. Photos promised when aux battery is spliced in to the same cable.

Torque on the rear diff drain plug is specified as 49Nm (36 ft-lb), which is only about half that of a wheel nut.

Hallelujah. Front Towbar installed!

El Pedorro had good news. An anxiously awaited credit to his Visa account has finally landed. It had to do with a reorder of the front towbar because the one that first arrived was for an Outback, not a Forester. My thanks to Etrailer USA and Blue Ox USA for helping me out of the confusion. The towbar, called a baseplate, is designed to allow El. P. to tow his Forester behind his motorhome.

And even better, he had a whole day free and installed the correct towbar. It has to be right, 'cause El P. ran out of bolts and holes to put'em in at the exact same time:biggrin:.

He is now plotting the fabrication of a front winch mount:lildevil:.

Respectfully,
El Pedorro

Couldn't lift it out of the Forester by myself and couldn't get the engine crain down from the 2nd story by myself :(
Ended up taking the heads off with the motor in the boot, then I was just able to lift to lift it out :iconwink:
BTW don't pull down a motor with it in a car when there is still oil in it!! Made the biggest mess everywhere, the whole 4L of oil on/ in my car and all over the floor :(

Upgraded the rear sway bar today on the foz from the stock 10mm one to a WRX STI GC8 19mm one with some whiteline endlinks. Made a world of difference, the car corners much better and is just much flatter/smoother all round  Pics to come.

Man that's funny as hell!

I would imagine its pretty tail happy with the new bar. Are you going to put your disconnects on it?
