What have you done to your car today?

I agree Oiler, a sound, straight older car is always savable, because there is so much LESS to go wrong with them. E.g. - how many electric motors besides the wipers does Swifty have ... one - fuel pump?
I definitely recon Swifty is a 'keeper'!

My wife's liberty is a perfect example of saving cars past it, I have replaced all the struts, the rotors and brake pads, new rocker cover gaskets, front diff seals front cv boots, had to flush all fluids, timing belt, all the drive belts, replaced all the wheels (rims and tyres) and scrubbed the interior and I mean scrubbed. The hood lining was sticky and yellow, the seats were stained. Those were the things that had to be done, on the bright side I got a MY00 RX Liberty for $1000 and because I did all the work myself it was worth it

^ Nice one OB Oiler.
Well yesterday at work we had a 2001 Liberty in for a service. Hadn't been serviced in 2 years, the owner said there was a rattling. Turns out to be piston slap :( Went to change the oil, not even 1L came out...

Proof! What a way to wreck a good car!

Sourced a new motor for my Forester :D
Need new front shocks :( They don't stiffen up when you bounce the front of the car... I guess 80,000km of hard offroad work does that aswell as another 120,000km on them :P

Proof of just how indestructible they are. Imagine doing that to Detroit iron!

^ True but the motor is stuffed and with piston slap louder than the stereo it won't last much longer. However the noise was quieter once we put the normal 4L of oil into it. haha

I agree, a disgraceful way to treat any engine / vehicle.

Sure it was piston slap then? Piston slap will generally only be heard on startup when it's cold. Once it's bad you'll hear it all the time but worse on startup.

Putting oil in it and it goes quiet points me towards big end bearings being starved of oil, maybe not enough to make the big ends wear out completely but enough to create some noise. Now that there's oil in there doing what it should be doing - lubricating the sliding surfaces properly.

I'd be keen to see what the oil pressure is - and make a note of it on their client card, it might come in handy when all oil pressure is a thing of the past...

Cheers

Not serviced in 2 years
Some people just don't know do they :shake:

And yes, what a way to wreck a good vehicle.

That's the kind of people that will then go on automotive review websites and comment how crappy the Subbies are :p

Cleaned the wheel wells and recoated part of them with undercoating... it started raining so I'll have to finish at another time.

There was quite a lot of the original coating that had come off in the last... almost 11 years now! Not that bad though, very minimal rust.

Not really "to my Suby", but I've spent the afternoon making my DIY Maxtrax. And here's the result - front and back:

And all this for less than $50, including a new hand-saw... Sure beats the $400 for a pair of the orange ones! :D

All I have to find out now is if they work, hummmm how would I do that??

Pedro.

Gidday Pedro

Thanks for that idea. Looks good, mate .

I have some 9 x 1.5" planks I made up to get my Dad-in-law's scooter onto my trailer. I could make them into the same system. Carry them in my trailer for those special "precious moments" :poke: :rotfl:.

Fitted a sump guard. Lost 20mm of ground clearance, but gained some peace of mind. The steel bracket at the rear hangs too low in my opinion, and this causes the loss of clearance.

Fitted the lift.

Rear only. Makes for a weird look  We had some trouble compressing the springs by hand... we gave up and bought the appropriate tool. Should be finishing the job (front) this sunday, along with some wiring for the basket lights. Winter tires go on tomorrow. Alignement will follow (considering the lift). And I'll probably buy chains to keep in the trunk, just in case.

Then I'll be all set for winter

I've never had a bracket on mine
It looks like they have made a change in the way you fit the sump guards now.
I wonder if they have that bracket for all of them now ?
