What have you done to your car today?

Gidday Bob

"Hitch" and "carbon canister" don't seem to fit comfortably in the same sentence to me. What am I missing here :poke: :iconwink:?

We call a 'hitch' a 'tow bar' here in Oz. And they are right proper buggers of things to fit!

These have to comply with an Oz Standard here.

To rip one off the back of any car I have had one fitted to would require the destruction of most of the rear of the car!!

I had a period like that too. About 16 years ago now. Got to the stage where I would say "Oh no, not again", or words to that effect ... :iconwink:

About 6 or 7 flats over a period of 18 months. All nails. One of them was caused by running over a bit of builders scrap; piece of building ply with about 6~10 3" or 4" nails through it. Kinda completely wrecked that tyre!

What always surprised me about this (all were on my Impreza ... ) was that I didn't even notice while driving the car with a flat tyre! I can usually notice if the tyres are slightly out with pressure, but these were all at suburban speeds, and the car felt fine, just a bit "funny". Never lost a tyre off the rim, or anything like that. Noticed when I stopped the car and had a look. Also surprising is that mostly the tyre was OK.

My condolences. Hope that you are at the end of the "run"!!

Hey Ratbag. Yeah, the bracket for the carbon canister is sandwiched between the hitch and frame on reinstall. The bolt holes for each just didn't want to line up, what a pain, but it's installed now! :)

Yeah, if it was torn off the back of my car, it would probably take my muffler and the bumper with it.

Next on the list is installing my primitive mini rear diff skid plate...

Yeah, I hope I'm at the end of my flat tire run. This was on a new tire too, glad the tire guys could patch it!

Yep when I get home! I couldn't believe it actually did them  Just goes to show the car is still[ awesome even with the old EJ20 donk

I've heard donuts are hard on the diffs? As such, I've never done them in my forester, and forbidden my friend who borrows it from time to time from doing them in it either.

Too bad, I had fun doing them in my old FWD cars. It's easier to do them in reverse, from what I remember.

I'm not sure abot the diffs, but I don't plan on doing them often. I wouldn't believe it actually did it in reverse thoough. A freind was rying in a Ford Laser and a few of us were watching. Then he tried reverse so I thought I would try...

It is hard on the diffs, more so the R160's. Of greater concern is engine oil surge. I've done it on gravel, wet concrete and dry concrete. I could not believe how quickly the car spins on the spot. Never done it in reverse though.

Yes I thought about that with the oil. Wouldn't be good for the gearbox either.
My engine is coming out within a few weeks so I'm not too worried if it does die but of course I would prefer not to have it die.
When I stopped from doing about 5-6 donuts I noticed a tonn of smoke coming out from the car. Thought I had cooked the engine :( But as I opened the bonnet and looked the gearbox oil has splashed back to the otherside where the dip stick is and pushed the stick up slightly causing a bit of oil to splash out and go on the exhaust... causing the smoke.
You can see the smoke in the vid.

Dry concrete??? You serious? Wow, wouldn't that be hard on the car? I'm guessing with your 6 speed box though the front diff us stronger than a standard wrx diff.

Yes, it is hard on the car. But the whole reason I installed this drivetrain was to be able to give it heaps. A fair bit of tyre noise and smoke too

i just finished installing a new clutch ,bering ,throw out bering .on jack stands .wow im wore out .but very proud of my self for doing it all by my self ........

Great job mate! It does fell like a great achievement when you do something like that yourself. I know I did when I changed my gearbox in my Forester. I can't wait to do my engine next :iconwink:
