What have you done to your car today?

Sounds about right. And if you don't have a press, forget about doing it yourself

I pulled one of the swaybar links (drivers side) off yesterday to see if it thats what was causing the problem.
Once it was off, I took it for a good drive & Bob's you uncle, no more knocking :quitar:
Problem solved :woohoo:
Now I just need to replace the front swaybar links with a different type :bcool:

I think I'll go with the same style that I have for the rear, as they have worked & served me well for the past couple of years :)
And all without the knocking too I must add :p

Great to hear mate! My forester has about 8-9 different knocking, squeaking and rattling sounds

Good to hear that.
These things can be flaming hard to track down sometimes ...

It's not being caused by a loose/worn bush in the sway bar is it?
Or just a loose nut/bolt?

Have you tried re-connecting it and torquing all the nuts to spec and see if it still knocks?

Congrats Taz

Off my P-Plates!!! :rock::discomonkey:

Just remember though my friend, that this event does not make you a better driver (or a worse one ... ).

For about five minutes, it could make you a more cocky one.
That's potentially dangerous ...

And always treat others as if they are homicidal maniacs, out to get you in particular.
Hope and pray that they pay you the same compliment.
A few drivers have saved my life, and possibly their own, by paying me that compliment when I have done something really bloody stupid on the road.

We ALL do these potentially fatal things from time to time.
The trick is to try to minimise their frequency ... :poke: :iconwink:

(Now stepping down off soap box ... :rotfl:).

Take care, mate.

br, J.

Haven't put it back on yet. But I can say that the bushes are still in as new condition though :)

When I do put it back on, I'm going to flip the bolts the other way round. I'll see how it goes then.

Well today tried to swap wheels with Davidovs gen 3 Outback due to him breaking yet another rear strut. My 15" rims just don't clear his front brakes by about 1mm :(
His 215/70R16 tyres do fit on my Forester though and raised it about 1.5" :D Wish I could of taken it for a drive with them on, hell it would of bee gutless. lol

Need to make a trip upto Geraldton 450km each way, on Thursday and since davidovs Outback, my Forester and the L are undrivable for long distance one of them has to be fixed asap. His OB has a busted strut, he has since taken out the lift and with the large tyres it is literally undriveable as you can't even turn the whell half a turn without rubbing. My Forester has done a rear wheel bearing and I don't want to do a 1000km trip without it getting done first. Since I have my last exam tomorrow I can't get it sorted then :(
The L-Series has done a front wheel bearing but is luckily a DIY job that can be done tomorrow :D I just hope it will make it on a trip that big in one day..... Hoping it wont over heat or break down or what ever. Should be right though once the bearing is done :)

going through a bad stage just like me  my engine light popped up for about 5seconds while driving last night the second time in about 2 weeks, dont know why everything is running fine but i will have to fix it very soon, hoping its just a sensor of some type. and also a stuffed rear strut also
did the large wheels fit the rear of your car?

Yeah I think this is just a bad year for me, but the way I look at it is everything I fix or replace atleast it should be good for another 100,000km+.

Yes the tyres just fit with some slight rubbing on the spring perch but they do fit and could be driven like that. So yes 215/70R16 do fin under an SF. 215/75R15 would fit without rubbing and have about a 2mm gap :iconwink:

Check for codes. Is this is your 99 Foz? Connect the two green connectors under the dash, turn the key to acc and count how man long and short flashes there are.

do you have stock rear struts? because looking at mine i dont think i would fit the 70's only 65's

yes i need to check codes, have exam today so busy and going home tomorrow so i might just go to my mechanic when i get home. it runs fine and has only popped on when it was very cold outside so im guessing it would be some sort of sensor

Yes stock struts, they are new KYB's but for a stock SF NOT SG.

Fair enough, I have my last exam today :discomonkey: Probably just a sensor worn out..

Sorry to hear about the wheel bearing issues you have mate.
Just a pity you can't fix the one on the Forry as easily as the one on your L Series.

Picked up RonnyRoo, & a cautionary tale about keys

Pissing down rain.

All nicely detailed, with new windscreen (OEM!! Apparently. Can't believe it ... ).

Spotless, inside and out.

Brakes nearly stand the car on its nose, even in the wet on Nepean Highway with SWMBO at the wheel ...

Went for a coffee and to show off to two of SWMBO's friends.

Getting back into the car, and SWMBO put my Fox key ('normal' double sided key) into the ignition ...

Oh dear, oh dear. It fitted half way - and jammed.
RonnyRoo has the double-sided laser cut key.

We couldn't remove it.
Couldn't lock the car with it in the ignition!

Even the mandatory "special" words would not convince it to come out!

We rang our friend (who was on her way home by this time), and she came back and picked me up and dropped me home.

I rang Mentone Subaru (Peter), who suggested that there was no 'magic' fix, but I could try spraying some WD40 in the keyway, then use main force to try to remove the key - otherwise, a locksmith (at 1630H? Pissing down rain? Hah).
Just forget about the RACV on a day like today - maybe a 2~4 hour wait ...

Did I mention that it was pissing down raining?

So back to the car armed with my computer tool box and some lanolin based lock spray.

Sprayed a bit of this stuff into the keyway.

Grabbed the shaft of the key with some pretty strong needle nose pliers and YANKED. Second try, it came loose, and out ... AND the proper key still fitted, and worked ...

About then, my visions of a $500 repair job evaporated, thank goodness!

What a trap for (not so) young players!!

If she hadn't done it then, it was only a matter of time before one or other of us did. So BE WARNED those of you who have both laser cut and conventional keys on the same ring ...

Ho hum. We both now feel like we need wringing out ...
