What factors make Off Road Ability?

never thought they will show one there... i mean he bought now new car himself and showed that without any mods it can be capable there

He's a bit arrogant that Dahl fella. Haven't watced the video yet, got it queued up on the telly though :)

Rahny showed then that stock hilux can do like a things there except mud without any mods. Mods just makes car heavy anyway specially those wood based boxes.. why so many ppl so like them i duno.

Well they didnt came there to go around that was not the point i guess. Point to see whats your weak points and later make some modifications to that so it would work better. At least i see it that way. But yh some cars there have 5cm lift and some 8cm with larger tires it feels whrere it needs more clearance.

not many people have that kind of car and with those kind of modofications that you can just go solo car as they prefer go solo and explore like anything in forest no matter how extreme it is. thats what portal axles and 42' tractor tires gives you and central air on all tires.
and they made sleeper in car too so they sleep in it 2 persons if needed. with all other tools there and even boat inside.

some russians again with subarus, now not just foresters but some not lifted outback and even legacys there ... i mean why on earth you would go to off road trip with not lifted legacy or not lifted outback ??? on city tires .. ? i mean just why ? i dont get it . russian or our off road its allways mud .. and city tires wont do anything in mud , unless you good lifted , so result is clear here
now on serious note.. you go trip with some guys and you know your car will be like stuck everywhere .. just why do that ? i would just feel bad all day for that rly.. for some guys its just boring trip and for some its too much .. so why ?
when i went that last trip with foresters i didint get stuck anywhere just because my ground clearance even on winter tires didint had any problems there , again because ground clearance, but if you dont have one .. just maybe stay home .. i duno , it makes just sad day for others. as they need to wait for some lowrider guy to pass

I saw the video Ronny did on 4WD vs AWD, and plenty of Subaru people commented in the comments. Good to see that Ronny is open to discussion.

though Rohny still very old school thinker about diff locks like they must just be and no other option. though he said couple times that auto could be better for off road , well autos that have low range i think are just perfect option, and where you can fix gears on which you want and car wont change them itself.
but good traction control wouldnt have any problems to pass most places where he would use locker .
again russia so large that some places have snow allready and some places have like +12 celcious like we do here. to see snow in this time is so cool
. but soft snow with mud just makes all worse as they can be
dont think winter tires can have any grip there on mud with snow on top its just too much, need grip mud tires and lots aired down, they didint have one or did another i think.

this is more what i would like. lots diff cars diff sizes and modifications , not too hard track, looks fun. some even stock cars with stock tires like couple range rovers
that dark red range rover imagine what it could do with some larger mud tires , those older models just looks so good

Grit & Determination
Sammy G's got it in spades!

Ohh yes tractor tires allways work in mudy situations

First time I ever saw the tractor I drove for a while, it had sank past its diffs in mud. Had to wait for the mud to dry and then it was driven out.
Big Ol' center pivot Versatile. Ridiculously large 4 X 4 with dual wheels at each corner, you could comfortably sit inside the rims.
Tractor tyres didn't help that one ;)
one of these!:

Hell of a thing to drive, dragged a 15m wideline air seeder behind it over floodplains. 24hrs a day that thing ran, stopping only to refuel, fill the seed hopper, check over and change drivers.
Now that was four wheel driving!

(I think I've told this story before  )

Tractor tires on larger 4x4 are best to explore muddy wet russian forests they tested best muddy most agressive tires and tractor tires was better still. They have downsides too as they dig down very fast so you need to stop if you not moving forward. So need to learn same as any tires on any car you need to lear them how they act.

Those guys they doing very good extreme off road in local forests going just them no other cars no slowing down but those tires just works everywhere. With centrail air to tires air down and air up from inside anytime. Those 42' tires. Still original engine with original auto gearbox with low gear. Both lockers

Not sure how those would work on light cars as subaru but should be good with lots aired down.
Subaru likes to get up in revs and spin wheels so heavy tires maybe could work on dual range low gears but autos could have more probs with heavy tires. Though when i tested those heavy muds in 15 rims car drovr like before i didint felt that its heavier on car at least on good roads. Maybe in mud it would be diff story.
Some local subaru ppl here saying at least for weaker foresters with auto just put AT tires and MT on dual range low gearing manual.

Our local subaru club having fun in my local forest where i live, just i wasnt there as i wasnt ready my car was not ready and im not ready just rip off my bumpers in one day ..i had those mud tires on that day allready but my gearbox is not ready rly ,maybe next time

never before i saw Willys 1945 in action in mud .. looks like its restored and now tested in russian mud with bigger guys.
that russian gaz 69 is not that old as Willys still its from 53-56 and it does pretty well there too.

when you have so much money and can afford anything life is much easier then i guess. when almost nothing is stock on those jeeps.
On other hand when you can just order any custom parts like change all to custom then is it not boring that its nothing else you did all you could to this car.
