N/A Supercharger Project x2

Any news on what's happening with this Taza - and don't give me the "I've been busy with uni" excuse as we all know it's only (dis)Orientation week this week!

Cheers

Bennie

I'm waiting on stilson to get back to WA then he is going to give me a hand to make an engine mount.

Uni doesn't start till next week.

I got in last night Taza, I've got a fair bit on my plate right now but if you want to come around tonight we can make a start.

That was a quick trip mate. Good to know you all got back in one bit

Anytime, I can wait till when ever. But if you want to catch up this afternoon and have a chat im up for that. Send me a text message anyway.

Taza met up with stilston today and started planning on a mount for the chargers. I was unable to make it today as monday is the only day i have a late lecture.

I hope you guys remembered to account for the tilt of the engine.

Hopefully we will get at least one going within the next fortnight.

I doubt it very much!

It's a pretty massive job for a couple of inexperienced shade trees.

Getting adequate belt contact with the pullies will be tough let alone getting a straight driveline.

There's not a lot of easy spots to mount the bracket to the motor.

If we overcome the physical mounting issues I have no idea if the thing will lean out or any thing else.

At best we're out of our depth.

That said I think we can have a prototype for the s/c half of the bracket done by the end of the w/end.

Yeah if it was as easy as moving the battery and making a little bracket I think there would be a lot more cars running around with them, stick them back on eBay.

Probably much easier if you were willing to sacrifice air con but buggered if I would.

I'm still keen if you guys are!

(but I've got a lot less invested in the project and a lot less to lose if it all goes pear shaped.)

No luck on my mild steel scab today we might have to buy some.

Sure! They might not have the range but I don't think Midalia will sell in small lengths. But try them cos they'll be heaps cheaper if they do.

We will probably need:

3 x 90 x 1500
3 x 25 x 1500
10.5 ID, 18 OD x 500 hollow bar (10-12ID and 18-22OD prob ok)
First aid kid
Beer
Luck

I'll bring the beer, what do you drink?

I think a spare engine and a mobile phone on speed dial for 000 could possibly be handly  Na she'll be right aslong as we do it properly :iconwink:

Any updates on this or are you still organising steel? Keen to see this get off the ground and to see what it does to your engine Taza - hopefully all good stuff!

Taz and stilson have designed the mount and as far as i know some or all of the pieces of the mount have been cut.

Ive been unable to have much to do with the project so far. :(

Yeah its coming along, im also in the process of orgainising to do my valve stem seals as im sick of having to put oil in every 3-4days. Looking at a replacment gearbox too.
Definitely dual range and will have a front lsd, 1.447.1 low range and possibly centre lsd, shorter 1st gear and taller 5th gear. Depends how far the money can strech!

We've decided on mounting points (head and intake man), made a few cardboard mockups of the mounts, cut out washer bottle mount, bashed the inner guard in a bit, moved some wiring and decided to run the a/c belt tensioner backwards and add an idler. Got some steel just need to get some steel tube with a 10mm ID and decent wall thickness. I'm trying to sell Taza on an inter cooler. Our mounting points run dead parallel with the crank so belt line should be a cinch. If anyone wants to put their hand up to help with tuning this thing I'm sure we could use a hand.

From extensive research intercoolers cause a loss of 2-3 PSI (for a cheap intercooler) do they not? It would be kind of pointless to use one then considering the supercharger will only be creating ~5-6 PSI.

It would be a gt one so cheap but not 'cheap'. I don't know if hot air at a higher pressure would be better than cooler air at a lower pressure but higher density. I haven't done any extensive research. At the end of the day it's your call.

Personally I'd be dropping an intercooler into the system to keep those intake temps lower. Where do you think that extra heat is going to end up? And this is where pre-detonation can be a ******* in the heat, or every day driving if it's that bad.

I'd be careful using the head bolt as a mounting point - I'm only saying this due to HG failure if you remove a bolt to slot the bracket over it, you might crack the seal of the HG or warp the head, this is why there's a specific torque sequence when you replace head gaskets. And on top of that you'd need to get a new bolt anyway as these suckers are those one use only torque/stretch types.

Im going to get the GT bonnet first then I can install a stock Foz GT intercooler. This won't be happening uptil I get a front bar as the mount for my UHF rubs on the bonnet and has worn away the paint. I don't want this to happen to the new freshly painted bonnet. So no intercooler first until those things happen first.
So untuil all this happens I have to go easy on her, plus the engines coming out possibly next month or in may for the valve stem seals and any other work the enigne needs. Im currently going through 1l of oil every 500km roughly. While the engines out the new gearbox will be bolted on too which will make the car over all 'ready for any situation'

I thought thats where the engine was pulled from??
They are the same points that hatchie's supercharger was fixed too. I can get some pics of the mounting points as we may not be talking about the same points....
