El Freddo's Journal.

G'day all,

I got this yesterday:

^ That's how it stood this morning.

This is what I did to it today:

I thought I'd share that for a start as I'm pretty excited about it. As for my subi that I cherish (not as much as you though Kez if you're reading...) the largest contribution to the forum about it was the EJ conversion that it underwent last september.

Here's a pic of Ruby Scoo in the Little Dip NP, Robe, SA:

I'll leave it at that but will share more in the coming weeks as a few projects come to fruitation :) Can't wait but need some parts, hence why I'm not working on them now...

Cheers

Cant wait to see how you're doing the rear but perhaps finish the front first lol ;)

The rear is being done at the same time, but there's really not that much to show though. I'll post up an image once it's all welded before I paint over everything.

One tip: If you're going to undertake a task like this - put the car through the carwash first! I'm having to clear mud etc off as I got at times, plus I'd love to paint all the underside while I'm here but the mud is in the way of that task...

Wow, that is some hard-core repair work... Looks like Rubes will be around for quite a while!!

I hope so!!

Now to get her back together!

Hey, that tribute video on the first page on this thread.... is that your L series going through mud with stock standard running gear at the beginning???

That's correct, except the only thing not stock was the rear "BOC locker" - aka a welded rear diff. Point and shoot with a rear locker!

how does that affect driving around on the road? I know you can put it into FWD but it's still locked back there

When you have the diff out to weld it you shave 5-7mm off the diff output stubs, this allows you to remove a rear shaft easily by jacking up the rear end. It's painful to lose the 4wd on the fly but it makes up for it offroad! IT WILL get you stuck in places that are 10 times harder to recover from!

Immense.

It will be a great day when rubyscoo, venom H6 and dulagarl are all on the road together again.

Lets not forget Subaruby too! That's always a good spread to have!

Back in the early days it seemed that the "terrible trio" were Venom's ride, Ruby Scoo and Subaruby. I remember getting into a little trouble with a locked gate in the Otways a couple of years back. Good times!

not leaving subaruby out at all (nor nachaluva, pedro or others for that matter). Just happens that all of the three cars I mentioned are undergoing major surgery either now or in the near future.

Also, re: locked gates. You just reminded me about a certain key...

yep dont forget me lol :poke:

Although I may find it hard to keep up with you guys on some of the stuff your cars are capable of...

Yeah true, but you'll get there, you'll be surprised as to how much of it comes down to driving style and experience! You'll get there!

Today I continued sealing up the welding - the interior is turning out to be much more painful than I thought it would be. Hopefully I'll get all the welds wire-wheeled with the grinder and at least one coat of rust converter sealer on before I've got to be other places I need to be.

And for a little bit of fun so I can say that I've done it, hopefully the only time this ever happens:

Here's most of my spray work at the moment - at least two coats of the rust converter sealer and now a coat of fish oil. Tomorrow it'll get a coat of Kill rust black enamel to finish off the paint work from under neath:

That's it for now.

Far out mate, that is a really good job your doing there

Might have to get you to help me fix the foz when I buckle my chassis

Its going well and the effort your putting in will be well worth it when your done. But since your at the stage where everything is apart, do the job properly and anything extra while your at it!

Keep up the amazing work.

Already have mate  The plating is an extra as is all the other welding that's been going on.

The only other thing I would have liked to add was some extra tie downs, but I can do this later without needing to have Ruby Scoo in this state.

Cheers

When you're finished I say we dig a pit, fill it with fire and skewer 2 cows and mount them on to this thing..... Sorry.. i just had a real fat person moment
