El Freddo's Journal.

G'day all,

I got this yesterday:

p2280104.jpg

^ That's how it stood this morning.

This is what I did to it today:

p2280108.jpg

I thought I'd share that for a start as I'm pretty excited about it. As for my subi that I cherish (not as much as you though Kez if you're reading...) the largest contribution to the forum about it was the EJ conversion that it underwent last september.

Here's a pic of Ruby Scoo in the Little Dip NP, Robe, SA:

p1290527.jpg

I'll leave it at that but will share more in the coming weeks as a few projects come to fruitation :) Can't wait but need some parts, hence why I'm not working on them now...

Cheers

Bennie

Great progress Bennie - will be ready in time for ski season eh! :iconwink:

Yeah it will be - but we're not headed up for work there this year. We've decided to say on the low lands to try and secure a full time teaching job. Two applications went off last week, so hopefully something comes up there!

Cheers

Bennie

PS: got some sikaflex while I was in town today - so I'm off to the shed shortly :D

Good luck with the applications! It will be nice to settle in full-time but I feel sure you'll miss your winter job.

but I feel sure you'll miss your winter job.

Already am! Just after I phoned my boss to say a no-go for this season both of us desperately hoped that we've made the right decision.

We still go hot and cold about it now :(

Cheers

Progress!

Ruby Scoo's first outing - still unfinished:

^ Only out of the shed to make way for Sheldon to go in for some work with the crap weather we were having at the time. Sheldon's got a leaking head probably due to a poor cast from the factory. But that's another story!

Height difference: Lifted/stock:

dsc9764ruby.jpg

Now she's got all her front panels back on, the rear bar is dummy fitted but I think I'm going to leave it off while I do some work/upgrades to it including a re-spray as it's chipped to the ****ta.

I'm hoping to pick up her radiator tomorrow as this is all that's holding me back from at least starting her. After this some wiring needs to be tidied up and I also need to "adjust" the 4wd lever as I now can't get it out of 4wd - there's not enough clearance from the console to allow me to push down on the lever. So cut and weld it is.

All going well, I hope to have Sheldon sorted tomorrow night then have RScoo on the go again this thursday. I also hope work doesn't come calling as I've only got a push bike from tomorrow until I get Ruby Scoo going again... Fun and games - and I know murphy's watching!

Also, I "lashed out" on some extended brake lines and went with a braided set. I got an extra 3 inches to match the lift kit where needed. The rear really only needed 2 at the most but it still fits well. I'll have to get photos of the fitted result later, but here they are with the old flexible lines:

From left to right: Front brake lines, rear disc flexible lines and the rear body to swing arm lines (extra three inches that should be max 2. 1.5 would have probably been ideal!)

With these lines and new discs on the front end I'd imagine that my braking will me much more responsive again over the old lines and discs. I'm looking forward to see what the difference is and to just take her for a drive!!!

Cheers

Nice work mate! It must be a good feeling to be getting it back together.

Rear end looks alot higher without the rear bar and back of the car loaded up.

SHE'S ALIVE!!!

And sounding so, so sweet! Stoked! Just need to do a few more things and she'll be ready to roll, first drive probably tomorrow, maybe later tonight... we'll see!

Stoked though!!

Looking good El_Freddo :raz:

Dirty as usual, but yes, it was great to have her out of the shed to admire from a distance with multiple angles to choose from  Yep, that didn't totally sound like I love my subi!

Yeah I bet you are! Good luck, I hope it all goes smoothly & Mr.Murphy keeps away :iconwink:

Mr Murphy was hanging around last night - I couldn't find the radiator support bracket that holds it in the car. So I cut up a new one this morning - then found the old one! Knew it would happen!!

Nice work mate! It must be a good feeling to be getting it back together.

Yeah it is!

Rear end looks alot higher without the rear bar and back of the car loaded up.

And YEAH IT IS!! That'll come down though :( I'll have to work on a system to pump it up when it's loaded etc. Still on the drawing board for that one.

Anyway, dad's home so now I've got the number 2 to help with brake bleeding

So here she was last night having her brakes bled - thanks for the pedal pushing without a driver's seat dad!

I've also replaced the flexible hose between the rear caliper and solid line on the swing arm with the same stuff but with the standard length.

Due to not having the rear bar on at the moment the spare tyre is in the rear boot area - held in by a bolt that's using a factory captive nut in the floor:

^ Fits very nicely.

In the driveway after a trip into town then a bit of a poke around in the forest out back of the property. I didn't have a go at any of the tracks due to being solo without recovery gear - good forward planning on my part!

dsc9822rubyrepairs.jpg

The rear end is so high up without the rear bar, lucky for me it's not bouncing all over the road. Can't wait to get the bar work done and back on - it's weird looking without it!

And one lame poser shot - I should have framed this one better, but anyway, I'm stoked!

YEAH SHE'S BACK!!!

This morning at Hotham:

Mt Feathertop and the Razorback Ridgeline, Mt Buffalo in the distance on the left:

Typical tourist shot, couldn't help myself this time around:

Looking south behind Chalet Hotham; one day there will be a chalet built here - prob in the next 5 years!

Last night's drive up:

Start time and altitude out the front of the Harrietville pub:

And at the highest point of the Alpine Road, just north of the peak of Mt Hotham:

dsc9846hothamrdhighpoin.jpg

(^ a pretty good time considering I wasn't really pushing it and the fog encountered, at some points I was only following the lines on the road - local knowledge is good for that sometimes!)

And the very mild fog I encountered after leaving the tree line, stock high beams only in this image:

dsc9852hothamrdhighpoin.jpg

^ Tacho still not working, it's on my to do list! And this fog is a mild night - when I say fog I should mention it's actually fast moving clouds... I've driven up here when you can't see a foot past the front bar of the car. Good times!

I'll be back up there next week, looking forward to it!

Cheers

Congrats Bennie

Wonderful pics mate.

Must be great to have it back on the road again ... :)

Yeah mate it's awesome! Burning way too much money driving around though! But I'm enjoying it anyway.

Still some work to do - sort out my cruise control, find a vibration and get rid of it, get my tacho gauge working and get some lights on my rear bar that I've been planning to do for a couple years now!

I'm also very surprise how attached I am to Mt Hotham - I really love the place and I'm going to miss it this winter, I'm not sure if I'll be making an appearance up there this year :(

Cheers
