What have you done to your car today?

Today I pushed Ruby Scoo out of the shed to take advantage of the up coming hot days to hopefully help bake the sound deadener that I've lathered on thick - it's still very gooey in areas, I'm hoping it will firm up after some cold/hot/cold/hot cycles of the next couple of days.

If not then some aluminium foil will be laid down so it doesn't stick to the floor covering - I still want it removable in the event of R.Scoo going swimming again...

Cheers

Bennie

It's obviously too late to suggest this, but I will anyway...

there is some roof repair stuff called "flashband", that is a bitumen adhesive backing (about 2-3mm thick).

https://www.andek.com/hans/DataSheet/flash.html

Think I might get some myself for my rear cargo area: the original black stuff on the cargo area floow has sort of melted above the muffler.

Anyway, I hope you get some nice sunny weather to help it dry.

I might be completely doubling something you've said, but I used Stone guard in my engine bay on my datsun for a different look and to cut out a lot of paint prepping time in there. It also served as a bit of a sound deadening agent, I'm sure it would cut out a bit of noise if you covered your underbody with it

Yeah that looks good, similar to dyna mat (I think that's the stuff) - I went with the paint on stuff so I could make sure it covered the entire surface area of the floor so there's no air pockets or crevices for mud/dirt/sand to make it's way into.

Anyway, I hope you get some nice sunny weather to help it dry.

Yeah it was good timing - 3 days or more lined in a row of 30+ degrees :lildevil:

That's on the cards - but I've got to get it going first then wash all the mud off the bottom of it - major mistake not washing the vehicle before stripping it out! Fleabay air gun should be on it's way in the mail for this job.

I gave my Forry a good wash today & waxed it aswell :raz:
I also gave the inside a bit of a clean too
I got it a little dirty & muddy (especially underneath) from a trip I did at the w-end with the NSW Subi Rec Club

I'll do a trip report of this adventure in another thread soon

Regards
Mr Turbo

That's amazing. I've never seen your car before- just the mud on top of it. Can you take a photo so we can see what has been hiding all these years?

Today I swapped my distributor with one I bought from the wrecker/mechanic I surprised myself with the accuracy of swapping the entire units and matching up the markings to align the dizzy. When I put the new one in I was only 1 degree out in comparison to the original
I also adjusted my headlights in preparation for the drive from the Sunshine Coast to Mt Isa as I'm anticipating the need to look out for wildlife and I want as much warning as possible

Went offroading with Stilson and Davidov this afternoon.

Got just some damage.

Ripped a fender liner out (first time and yet ive done thousands of km of sand driving), broke the rear bumper, ripped off the whole :censored:ing nudgebar and my spotties.

Then to top off all the darn cosmetics(which i wasn't really worried about) I got bogged in some soft sand, tried to reverse and BANG! reverse keeps popping out, I can use it barely at all and when I start the car theres a clunk sound. Im thinking gearbox mount??
Goes in the gear fine and you can come off the clutch just pops into neutral when you put any pressure on from the accellerator.

This is part of the mix of emotions im going through :censored:     :yell: :furious: :censored: :censored: :censored:   :yell: :censored:

Damn Taza, that's a stroke of bad luck if i ever heard! Maybe you will be in the market for something like this

Believe it or not, they actually make smaller versions of these for cars. One of my project managers at my last job had an "auto-bandage" on his fender from where a tree limb had went through it on a job site. Most redneck thing i had ever seen!

^ Thats a nice picture DirtyRu.

The thing thats got me stumped is that I used reverse before and it was fine, even got that on video to confirm. Then when I went to use it after getting stuck again it just kept popping out....
The old thing though is that I wasn't being hard on the car. I am alot eaier on her overall, especially offroad compared to how I was.

Thats a bugger Taza, sorry to hear your probs. I hope you get the box prob fixed soon, it must be a real bugger!

How did you do the rest?

What is a fender liner? Sorry to hear the sad news

I'm taking it straight to a subaru specialist after work. If the reverse thing is a major then I will just swap the whole box with one from a wrecked car. It already whined, doesnt go into first properly, first whined and now this.
I'm so over this stuff happening...

I was considering selling or writing it off..... But now I'm thinking that many of the things already done or that have broken and been fixed I know are fine. Us I could have these break on anither car. So if I fix something then in theory it should be fine for a while anyway.

Good chance to start collecting parts for a box with front lsd and l series low range!

meh.

Mine jumps out of reverse. I just hold the gear stick in place. Problem solved.
