What have you done to your car today?

I have either broken the flywheel or the pressure plate. Either way, the clutch is slipping quite a bit. Happened driving to work, there was a small bang, then loss of drive. On my way now to take the gearbox out and install a new flywheel (Non dual mass) and clutch kit. Now you know what I'm doing for the rest of the day! I just hope I can get the car there without losing drive altogether.

Hope you get it fixed soon. Is it on your Forester or Impreza?

Will post a trip report tonight if I get the chance. Otherwise tomorrow
That would be great.

Come to think of it, thats something I'll have to do too.

Not today, but over the w-end I got my Forry a little dusty & diry whist out playing at Abercrombie.

Fitted my tow bar and what fun it was.... The bolts going up through the bumper reinforcement had rusted so the breaker bar came into some use winding them out. Then the joy was cold chiseling the captives out and using 8.8 bolt/flange nut sets to replace them. So a job that should have taken an hour took 4. Still I have a tow bar now so my trailer may get some use and I have a really good recovery point.

Finally got around to swapping my clutch slave cylinder out for a new one. Purchased online from the US at about a quarter the cost...including delivery and it is OEM.

Finally I don't have the sticking clutch pedal issue the plagued soooo many Subarus.
Was a quick and easy 10 minute job :D

The Forester now has a new clutch. And a brand new shiny flywheel as well. I replaced the trouble prone dual mass flywheel with a solid one, and wondered why Subaru went to all the effort to give us a problem. Car feels great. Unfortunately, it looks like the LH head gasket is leaking, and the new rear diff was leaking oil out through the axle seals. Why? Because the dopes who put the diff in did not lock the driveshafts in. For those of you who know Sydney, I drove from Ruuse Hill to McGraths Hill, where the clutch died, then back again. I drove the Impreza back to Mcgraths Hill, then out to Penrith and back to Rouse Hill. Then I got back in the Forrie and drove to Rossmore, pulled the gearbox out and replaced the flywheel and clutch. Then drove home again. And it was hot, so I'm pretty buggered now.

The Forester gearbox in someways harder to remove than the Impreza one. The dual range makes a difference, and there seems more wiring to deal with as well. A big thanks to Dave at A1 Autos at Rossmore. He sourced the clutch and thanks to him the car is going. If you are in Sydney- especially the south west, then contact him. He specialises in Subarus, and when Eden broke down last year he drove all the way to Oberon to help.

You pulled the box to replace the clutch? I always found moving the engine to be far easier.

Rather you than me! Everyone I know removes the box. I once saw the SRTA guys change a box in their rally cars in 17 minutes. I'm a few minutes slower than that. Quite a few actually!

Tonight I just changed my interior light from normal tungsten globe to LED. Now the light is not only brighter, but a nice crisp white. Since my ebay special came with 2 LED lights, i changed one of the map lights too.

Regards,

Joel

Fair enough. I hate working under the car too much so I pull the motor. Have it out and back in in a couple of hours. Good chance to get other stuff done while it's out.

Yeah- having a hoist to work with makes a difference!

haha true. I pulled the gearbox out of my brothers Camry the other month just using the handwinch I use for offroading :p Hooked on end to the gearbox and the other end to one of the beams in in the carport :p

I hate east west engines (not real keen on Camry's either, but that's another story). They make a hard job harder compared to north south. But I guess that's because I'm used to north south and others brought up on east west find them easier. Still, looks like I'll have the engine out by years end if not before. Wanting that like a hole in the head.

My forester and I got our first speeding ticket together :censored: :censored: :yell: :censored:

It will arrive in a few weeks :(

I was driving along the near the ocean looking out at how such a nice day it is, then I see a flash and a stupid Xtrail in the bush. Look at my speedo and im 10km/hr over the limit. What a nice way to end my day after a great day at work...

Funny thing is that my Forester is in my fathers name.....

You were probably in a 90 or 100 zone too. Oh wont somebody PLEEEEASSE think of the children.
****ing spead cameras.

As the government would say- bugger the kids, give us your money

Tried to install some heavy duty end links for my front sway bars. Noticed that the control arm mount on the drivers side is all bent (must have swashed it offroad) so the new endlinks wont fit. Gonna have to get the blowtorch out tomorrow and try and straighten it out.
