What have you done to your car today?

200002 MILE! That is impressive! I have a 'thing' for palendromic numbers - just wait 'till you get to 800008!

I tried to get the pic at 200000, but I was on the freeway and it didn't work. My next stop landed me at the 200002 and I thought that was the next best thing.:)

This particular gearbox is slightly different, as the gearing has been specially treated & strengthened :raz: Aswell as that, it's sliding hubs have been modified for easier gear changing at lower speeds (great for 4wding) & better 5th gear selection & improved 5th gear synchro. :discomonkey:

Can't wait for Friday & to have my Forry back :woohoo:

This sounds like it's going to be a great new gearbox!!! As Barry said, perhaps a 'blessing in disguise'. I'm sure it's not going to be cheap, but it may very well be worth the $$$.

Sounds like the 'blow up' was a 'blessing in disguise'!
I think so mate, but I have to say that it did come at a price though (total bill for all parts & labour)
But hey, it's only $$money$$

The stronger modded gearbox was quite reasonable though. It was only $300 more than one that I saw, but still cheaper than another one I saw by around $500

On top of that the warranty was a lot better too. 12mths compared to 3 or 6mths  :discomonkey:

Time will tell I guess.
It happened at a good time I suppose (not that any time is a good time to blow your gearbox though) as I'll be going to Abercrombie in a couple of weeks.

Hope your new gearbox and clutch work out Damian.

Today I went to ACA at Brookvale for a new front oxygen sensor. The one they listed for my car had the wrong gender plug. They couldn't explain why.

Just trying to avoid getting paying 3 times as much at Subaru.

Hi Simon,

A mate of mine is the head mechanic at one of the dealerships. I was speaking to him about an issue with my car, and he spoke of the front AFM sensor. I'd always assumed there were 2 O2 sensors in later cars, but he corrected me by saying the front one is an AFM sensor and the back one is the O2 sensor. He then said that a number of people had used after market ones only to find that the aftermarket ones don't work or don't work properly. Once they new aftermarket one was replaced with a new genuine one, the car was fine. I certainly trust this bloke- his knowledge on such matters is very great

Hope your new gearbox and clutch work out Damian.
Thanks simxs :)

Great you will be on the road for Abercrombie Damian !!!
It sure is  I haven't missed a trip there in 6 years & I wasn't going to let a little thing like a busted gearbox get in my way
As I've said before...beg, borrow, steal, I'll be going on this trip (Abercrombie) & nothing is going to stop me from being there.

I can't wait as I'm sure it will give it a good work out. :iconwink: :raz:

What's the story with this trip? Who's going?

He then said that a number of people had used after market ones only to find that the aftermarket ones don't work or don't work properly.

Thanks for the info and advice Tony. From what I've gathered Subaru use Denso units and this is what I'm trying to source. However if it ends up being too much hassle to get the right one I'll just fork out for a genuine one.

Actually, it should read AFR, not AFM. AFR is Air Fuel Ratio

AFM is Air Fuel Meter
MAP is Manifold Absolute Pressure
CAI is Cold Air Intake
TBE is Turbo Back Exhaust

OK, I'm guessing that I'm not the only tech illiterate who hasn't a clue what 'AFM' means / what the sensor does.

Yes, you are right. Guess who was half asleep this morning!

Got my Forry back from the mechanics today after having the gearbox & clutch replaced. :woohoo:
What a difference. I feels fan-:censored:-tastic. :discomonkey: :monkeydance:
It's just so silky & smooth when changing gears :quitar:

Excellent news. That's two of us happy with our new gearboxes. Anyone keen to make it a hat trick?
