What have you done to your car today?

Peter, I haven't got a clue. However, if you shake the sh¡t out of it for about 10 minutes or so, I guess it may well be OK. No guarantee though ...

If you weren't so far away I'd give it to you try! :lol1:

I wouldn't game to put it in the HRV.

It's probably a lot cheaper to just buy some new stuff, all things considered ... 🤣

Airflow valve sounds right gents. I don't even know what UEC is, but I guess it's that goo you squirt in and make a lot of smoke with. I did that. Once. On the old car, not this one.

You're right, @Tannin . UEC = Upper Engine Cleaner.

Essential for Japanese (and probably Korean) doncs.

Should be done at every oil change, which is about 20K/24 months if you are using high quality fully synthetic oil like Shell Helix Ultra 5W-40 FS.

PS, if you don't know how to do it - don't. There's a good chance you would do major damage to your gearbox.

It involves matching engine revs to gearbox input shaft revs without using a clutch to equalise them.

I used to do this a bit in the old days - in a 3 speed Holden FC. As above, the clutch fork failed a couple of times, so I had to drive it without the clutch. But I had practiced this technique, because I'd heard that this is what racing drivers did.

Start in 2nd - no accelerator - then easy on the accelerator once it's moving. For a short trip, I could just stay in 2nd. To change up, ease off the gas till the drivetrain is unloaded (you can feel it) then slip into the next gear up, pausing a little in neutral while the engine slows to match the road speed, then gently slip it into gear. Changing down is maybe easier, particularly if you habitually double de-clutch like I do. Again, slip into neutral when the drivetrain is unloaded, blip the engine to bring the revs up, slip in into the lower gear. If it crunches too much - back into neutral and try again.

I occasionally go 3rd to 4th clutchless in my Outback just to keep in practice. I hope I never have to do more than just practice.

I installed the Hike It throttle controller. I'm happy with it. Feels like my non-turbo Forester SH now has an SI-drive :)

Today I’ve had my SH Forrester at the mechanics going on 4 weeks waiting for Pistons Also I’m getting a lift kit installed and a skid plate installed hopefully I get the car back soon

Did a 2nd windscreen in my HRV, 1st one was back Aug 2022, now I have to have another one fitted next Wednesday.
At $1,010.00 a pop (or $750.00 with excess) to supply - fit & calibrate, it gets a bit expensive.

I Picked up my 2011 Forester today after a Motor rebuild, skid plate and 2" lift kit installed, I had to wait quite a while because parts were a little hard to get and the machine shop who rebored the cylinders was flat out. I found a really good mechanic to do the job Leo Mendez of Leos Garage in White rd Maribyrnong Vic. He started his career in Chile at our equivalent of TAFE for 2 years then got picked up by Subaru in Chile, them Migrated to Aust. and continued with Subaru as a Mechanic in Melb and worked with the Rally team for about 5 years, I had the option of taking the exhaust over the subframe or using spacers to extend the length of the exhaust to meet the mufflers and that was the cheapest option for now considering I had a big enough bill with the rebuild, see how that goes if I crush the exhaust over the subframe it will be ( thanks to all those that gave me great advise) Because of the motor rebuild I need to get some KMs on the clock before I get the car dirty, and I will continue with the stock tyres for now, the rims are +48 so I might get + 35 to +38 rims in the future (+38 keeping it legal) and Im not sure whether to get 215/70/16 or 225/70/16 I'm told the 225s will fit in the wheel well with some persuasion ?

Thanks I will check it out, I hope you have a good New Years break
Merry Christmas for today, I tried that technique of just driving in sports mode and did about 350 k’s yesterday, but the oil consumption is quite heavy used almost a quarter of the dipstick, is that normal? I was a bit surprised that you so much.

That is highly abnormal usage, Damian.

My wife's SH uses about 0.5-1.0L every 10,000 Kms. That use is from leakage from one head gasket.

My 2006 SG uses no oil between changes at 24 months/24,000 Kms.

If I were you, I would immediately return it to the company who refitted/rebuilt your engine.

A properly functioning EJ253 engine should not use any oil at all in 10,000 Kms, even when running in.

Had the engine running a bit rough at low rpm's, changed the spark plugs, tested the plugs, inspected and sprayed the connectors....but nothing changed ! Then I listened carefully the engine and noticed an air noise near the intake, picked up a screwdriver and tightened all the screws and now its fine ! After 25 years, everything gets a little loose and needs attention.

Put 4x new Bridgestone Turanza Serenity Plus 215x60 16 tyres on Roo2 today.

Bridgestone is having a "four for three" sale here ATM, so $606, fitted and balanced.

The Michelin XM2 tyres had quite literally started to fall apart, with splits all around the tread area.

Our mechanic said that the vehicle was unroadworthy ...
