What have you done to your car today?

Using my new impact driver (xmass present) to remove the wheel nuts.
Lucky you! An impact driver is on my shopping list specifically for doing wheels (I'm sure I'll find a ton of other uses for it).

Get one, best tool I've had in my kit in a long time, besides the cordless ratchet

I DIYed a wind fairing for my Rhino Rack RPBS Roof Tray as I didn't like the wind noise at around 60 to 110 kph when it was on. The main components are the 3mm solid black acrylic sheet which I bought from a factory here, the rubber sealing and the 25mm aluminium extrustion, also made locally. I used M6 bolts and nuts for the attachment to the steel tray and M5 to fasten the acrylic sheet to the aluminium. Left and right edges are tapered for a tiny bit better aero than when it's completely flat.

The highway speeds are much quieter now. The only wind noise sound that is properly audible comes from the weather shields.

I thought of going with ready-made ones from Yakima or Rhino Rack. I am not a fan of the build of the Yakima, even though the clamps are the zip-tie type ones. The Rhino Rack ones are made in OZ but the attachments clamps/holders/attachments are not flush with the front of the roof tray.

Found the route for twin 6g wire through the bulkhead via passenger side wheel arch. Ran mouse string. But apparently need to make a bigger hole in the rubber grommet. Need to take wheel and wheel arch liner off AGAIN to extend the hole. Part way through camping fitout of '11 SH Foz. 8m of wire @ $15 per metre!..miscalculated that one in my fitout cost estimate!

Changed the drivers side window motor with a new secondhand one (from a 04 Forester left hand passenger side), the one on the left a little corroded. New one works much better now.

Hey @Subaruby! Long time no hear old friend! Hope things are well over your way.

My number hasn’t changed - mind you I haven’t tried contacting you on yours either.

No Subaru play this weekend (it was another brand!).

Cheers

Bennie

@Subaruby It's a painful job isn't it!
Yes indeed, although removing the "new" one gave me an idea what I was in for.

Hey @El_Freddo, still hanging around but don't get out much unfortunately, just a bit of camping with the son. I occasionally consider getting a p@#$%o but just can't get rid of the foz, its too good.
One day we need to do a trip again, what city are you in these days?

@Subaruby - now in Bendigo. Coming up three and a half years! Just got back from a deserts trip last week. I love it out there, just don’t get enough time and Mrs El_Freddo wants to base camp now. I can see her reasonings, but I’m also out there to enjoy some 4wd tracks!

It would be great to catch up again.

Cheers

Regretting putting 91ron in the brumby tonight. It certainly doesn’t like that stuff, even with the cooler weather it pings hard when going hard up hills around town. Not happy jan.

Before anyone cracks on about timing, it’s running 4deg BTDC as it is. Reduce this further and it’s like driving a brick around town - unresponsive to say the least!

Now to endure about 350km of babying it around town until I fill it up with the good stuff once again.

That’ll teach me for not going for a half tank fill to test the waters first... I can be stubborn when it comes to partially filling the tank, why bother when it just means another trip to the servo??

Cheers

Bennie

Been using E10 from start in 2002. No pinging, no problems, 378000 kms. But 91 yes terrible under load.

Yeah I’m not game to use that blended fuel, too many metal parts and old rubber bits to replace before it’s reliable.
I use 91 RON in both our SG and SH. Always.

They both perform flawlessly.
I used it until whatever this issue is arose. I’ve not got to the bottom of it other than replacing a very blocked fuel filter and running 98ron. I thought the cooler temps would work in my favour but apparently not. The brumby went well today without issue, but I didn’t give it any stick really either.

A can of UEC makes a world of difference with 91 I find.

Yeah not on the Ye Olde Subaru’s! I’m not game to try it out until there’s an EJ lurking under the bonnet ;)

Cheers
