What have you done to your car today?

Just spoke to Service guy at Honda, he reckons you won't always see water in the neck of the filler when you remove the radiator cap. :shake: I bloody near fell off my chair. :surprised:
I immdeiately booked it into Honda for them to have a look at it, that way the issue will be recorded for Warranty coverage.

Well, he is right, you won't always see water in the neck... If there isn't enough in the radiator to begin with

Yesterday:
Pulled the tailgate off, found some rust below the roof line where the metal folds down to create the cavity section for the top of the tailgate. Did some basic prep then decided to just weather proof the car for this weather event that’s meant to happen later today.

Pulled the rear diff out to replace seals (once they’re here).

Got on a Facebook group page (stole Mrs El_Freddo’s account for it), couldn’t believe the amount of noob activity with very basic questions being asked - and I purchased a steering wheel from one of the group members. Going by Austpost’s current efforts, it should be here by 2025.

I much prefer forums over the common dramatic convenience and validation that typically comes from bookface postings.

And today I went for the second tops off drive in the brumby with this glorious weather. First one was Friday! I think a winter tops off drive is a first for me!

:D

Took 9 days for a birthday card I sent to arrive on the Central Coast - missed the birthday by a long shot! :-(

Me too! I have no social media accounts whatsoever; my many years of experience in the computer industry forms my opinion of those scrapheaps :)

We bought some vacuum cleaner bags from JB HiFi at Brighton East, about 3.5 kms away.

They went to Clayton South, then to Dandenong South, then delivered to us from there - about 25 kms away!

Only took 8 days ...

We have got parcels of books delivered from England in that time!

Pic added to previous post before I put the glass back in ;)

Yeah Austpost - their time to shine with extra staff on etc but they dropped the ball once again. It will be interesting to see how they go if ppl return to face to face shopping.

I purchased a little brass fitting on eBay from Dandenong. Several days later I posted an air box to another forum member outside of Bathurst. The box arrived at theirs in 5 days. My little package arrived in 12 days!! Go figure. Both were regular post!

I’ve purchased parts from the other side of the world that arrive here quicker than a letter or package can from Melbourne to Bendigo...

End Austpost rant.

I have received a Dash Cam from Korea in 4 days, ordered on Friday, arrived the following Monday.
My mate in Townsville has received Mercedes Benz parts (Genuine) from Belgium in 4 days, a bucket load cheaper than the local Dealership too.
It takes more than a week for a regular letter from Melbourne to Sunny Coast to arrive, and all of this was pre-Covid too, so no excuse.
Aust. Post needs some decent competition to really make them lift their game or go bust.

I order ink cartridges from cartridgesales.com.au somewhere on the north coast of NSW. (Their service is superb. So are their products).

Best ever was ordered at about 1430-1500H one day, on my doorstep at 0800H the next morning! Via Fastway, IIRC.

My best was a pair of shoes from Snowy’s in Radelaide. Placed online order near midnight one night, was on our doorstep two days later! I think that was a tollway delivery service.

DHL for international stuff are good too in my experience. Could be a little slower now without so many flights in and out of the country.

Update on my HR-V's radiator water level issue.

Took the HR-V into the dealership today, here is the report:

1. Inspected vehicle found no coolant leaks.
2. Pressure tested system, no leaks detected.
3. Level down slightly, topped up from reservoir.
4. Ran engine to operating temperature, rechecked level again all Ok.
5. Couldn't fault cooling system. In some conditions coolant will not be level with top of radiator tank filler neck.

Now there's an admission you will not see everyday, especially when referring to what is called a closed cooling system.
I have always been under the impression that when the water heated up and expanded, it was pushed into the overflow bottle. As the engine cooled that water was drawn back into the radiator, thereby keeping the system full at all times. Hence the term closed cooling system.

@subyroo I agree, Peter. Sounds pretty odd to me.

I'd say extremely odd more like it.
At least I have it in writing from the dealership should it go pear shaped in the next 4 yrs 9 mths. of the Warranty.
Just annoys the crap out of me to have to check it daily for that period of time, so there is no comeback on me. Poor old mob ph will cop a pizzling from photographing the evidence daily. :ROFLMAO:

I swapped out my old steel trailing arms and upper control arms (also forward diff carrier) on my BP Outback for aluminium Spec B items today — almost. This was as far as I got, because it turns out the ali arms use longer hub flange bolts. Makes sense, I guess: the alloy arms need more meat behind the hub. Genuine bolts priced at NZ$21 EACH (and I need eight), and they'd take three weeks to arrive from Japan. So it was a call to a local engineering suppliers instead. All the same, It's late Friday afternoon here, so nothing happens now 'til Monday. That's the Kiwi lifestyle, and I‘m good with it...

So: this is a trap for young players — if you're going to do this swap, be sure to source the hub flange bolts too: if you need to buy some, they're 12mm x 50 x15 (head size) and they're — of course — 1.25 mm thread pitch. Good luck!

Nice - but much too clean to be featured on ORS! :)

Thanks for the heads-up

Neato!

I swapped an EJ alternator into my brumby as I’m out of “replacement” alternators from my parts stash. This ticks off the alternator wiring job for an EJ conversion.

Now it’s just some other wiring and basic mechanicals of an EJ conversion to be done - oh, and fitting the AWD gearbox.

Cheers
