What have you done to your car today?

Stuck In The Mud

My Son and got the Leggy stuck in the mud Just to get out the recovery gear  We had fun winching her out I still need to get my lift in. I need the factory spacers that are on an outback any body got some taking up space :poke:

Picked up a second hand starter motor for my Fozzy today. Gonna install tomorrow. Current one is utterly screwed.

Has a look at a few EJ20 blocks as well for my rebuild.

New King Springs & KYB rear shocks.

Fitted King Springs and KYB rear shocks today.
Car now sitting level (0.6" higher front & 1" higher rear)

However, had a minor glitch which meant that I couldn't fit the subtlesolutions strut lift blocks.

The front 'top hat' has a radiused edge where the block needs to sit. This means that the lift block can't fit onto the hat.

I will need to find someone who can radius the inside of the block so it will fit.

The bloke doing the fitting said he thinks that the earlier sedan top hats (or perhaps the previous model) might not have the radius. That could also be an option I guess.

I am presuming that the US spec hats must also be different to ours, or they would've been produced with the radiused inner edge.

Anyway, I'll run just with the new springs for a while and see how it goes, until I can sort out modding the blocks.

Slowly, slowly, catchy :discomonkey:

So far the rear with the new shocks feels better over speed humps - not 'bouncing' as much.

Will post pics shortly.

Good to hear that your getting a smoother ride with less bouncing :newmulti: :newmulti: :newmulti: :bananatoast:

Another thing you should notice is less body roll when cornering too. :monkeydance: :raz:

Look forward to seeing the pics. :)

Lifted, of course! :iconwink:
0.6" (~15mm) front, 1" (25mm) rear.

Yes, have photos.

Nice. So where are these pics????????

What did I do to my Subaru today? I took some pics, grabbed the shovel out of it and probably forgot to unlock it - I only though about this after a snowball fight and 500m of walking to the next bus stop (missed the hourly bus that the RMB strictly runs for staff - they seriously don't care about staff up here) I realised I may have left it unlocked.

All good, I'll sort that out tomorrow after fitting a known to work 100% ignition relay sent by FROG from ausubi - I've got multiple sensors not working properly so we're going for the relay first then I'll move onto individual sensors starting with the temp sensor, then cam then throttle...

Fun Fun!

Cheers

Bennie

Hello Brad,

Had new King Springs and rear struts fitted at the weekend and intended fitting the strut lift at the same time, but ran into a problem with the front spacers.

There is a radiused flange on the top hat (see photos) and the lift blocks won't clear the flange.

I'd be interested to see any pics you might have of fittings of front spacers to top hats, in case there are differences between models / years / USA vs Aus.

Thanks mate, and just so others are clear, this is in no way a criticism of the blocks. They are fantastic quality.

Barry

Our US top hats have the same radius and the spacers fit just fine. The cheapest/easiest solution is to stack a few M8 washers in between the spacer and the top hat to lift the 1" aluminum block vertically just a hair to clear the radius.

You can see the radius here:

Been ordering parts on eBay to give my Forester it's well deserved 200,000 KM tune up.

New clutch slave cylinder and stainless steel hose from America on it's way. Gonna order a new 02 from the US also.

Order two new front CV shafts and borla headers from eBay Australia.

Probably going to try and get the rest of my parts from the US as car parts are an absolute rip off in Australia. Almost 400 dollars for a tensioner for the timing belt! Just the tensioner. Bugger off Subaru.

Still need valve cover gaskets, spark plug seals, 02 sensor, timing belt kit, lightweight pulleys, new rotors and pads, catch can (I hate having oil in my airtake) and considering buying custom cams from Delta in America. High torque cams. Just ahve to keep my eye out for a decent 2.5L block and 2.0L SOHC heads so I can finally build by high torque hybrid with forged internals and NO turbo. Gonna crank the compression up big time :D

As for what I ACTUALLY did on my car today, I did some routine inspection and cleaning of the engine bay.

The Impreza RS rally cars apparently went really well. A mate of mine sourced tensioners for me locally. Same as genuine, just not genuine prices, ex Japan. Why not a 2.5 quad? You must have a fair bit of blow by if you are already needing a catch can? Get a water pump too. What sort of compression are you going to run, also fuel, ECU? Sounds interesting anyway, will follow with interest. Do none of the local cams guys do cams for these things?
