What have you done to your car today?

Not my Subi, but this is in progress.

Standard box replacement at this point.

1WD's Forester ?

The one and only! Almost got it all sorted tonight. Had to stop for dinner.

Exhaust, gearbox oil, tailshaft to diff bolt (only one to go) and airbox etc to go. Simple stuff really.

The SLO “monster lift” helps too. It looks like a baby land cruiser with these wheels and lift!

I can’t wait for 1WD to sort out a tricked up gearbox with 4.44 diffs. Then this thing will be a real weapon off-road! Should be pretty good now if the centre diff holds up with the locker, but it’ll be better with 4.44s and a few other special bits.

I made a Subaru F logo for my skid plate/sump guard using some vinyl cutoffs and a box cutter.

The Impreza or Legacy badge is supposed to go here.

I placed the hand-cut logo in that badge space.

I think the F badge gives the SG5 some extra off-road traction!

I put our SG in for a RWC - it came back needing two new globes (reverse light and number plate illumination light) and new front rotors. The ones on it were a gamble and probably original factory units. They were made in Japan but I couldn’t find any Heavy Fuji Industry logos on them.

So two new globes, new front rotors and pads and she/he is ready for the passing of its RWC tomorrow.

Rego from there!

Ready for rego appointment tomorrow :D

And some “shats and gaggles”:

Cam covers and sump done too. Had to do the intake to tie it all in - and I reckon it paid off:

My MIL is super excited but doesn’t know about the under bonnet paint work - she’ll find out when the bonnet is popped to read the engine number :D

All done. She’s officially on the road now! MIL is very exited!

on last month lots going on there. but main thing is 7cm or 2.7' lift spacers on struts. dont think anyone done this before. still figuring out bits and peaces but its running. rear suspension and those stupid links have some issues there , not so easy as on forester , but i will figure out that . front all good just maybe axles reaching its limits there ... maybe

front is all good kins for 7cm spacers but rear is not so good taking it. so now i will try shorter rear axles there , and see what will happen. as we all know or not , all years from 1995 went for wider and wider track dimensions means longer axles. means you can still find those older shorter axles out there.

Changed the steering rack today. There had been a knocking in the steering/suspension for a while that I couldn't pin point. Knocked with every direction change of the steering wheel. So wriggling the steering wheel made the knock continuous. Had recently replaced flogged out ball joint and control arm bushing, which needed doing but didn't stop the knock. Tie rods weren't that old, replaced from being bent offroad. The knocking turned out to be the steering rack itself. I tried adjusting the adjustment bolt, but this just stiffened the steering and didn't change the knock. Finally replaced it today and all is good again. Not sure what internal part can make the knocking sound...

@scalman did you space down the rear subframe? I'm no OB expert, but I think you with 7cm lift you would need 4-5cm rear subframe spacers. The rear suspension doesn't like much change in geometry, which would upset the axles.
EDIT - Just read your post on varying axle lengths, that looks confusing...

@Ratbag I removed the mounting bolts and redid them up when adjusting the adjustment bolt, so would have been tight after that. And also checked the uni joint at the same time before buying another steering rack.
