What have you done to your car today?

At a traffic light going to work yesterday. Was watching the traffic light then realised the car in front of mine stopped o_O

Touched up the clear coat on the boot door
My car when parked at home unfortunately gets a few hours of direct aussie sun.

On both sides i washed and cleaned the affected area. Gave it a light sand with 900 grit paper.

Then sprayed 3 coats of clear coat.

Came up nice. Not perfect but im happy.

And mine too, @temmah .

Can you do part panels like this?
How well does it blend in?
It blends in well. There is one line where i sprayed to close to the tape, and when i removed the tape you can see the line from the new and original clear coat. But not that noticable.

Thanks, mate. That's helpful.

Protecting the base paintwork is far more important to me than minor aesthetics.

I was completely unaware that it was even possible to do this oneself, so great to know.

Well after 2 months the clear coat has come off and im back to square one. I think i might try again with some bettet clear coat.

That's well worth knowing, thanks.

Please keep me posted on what you find that is better. Maybe try Repco?

Our SH had to have all four disc brakes machined (again!). Only done about 50, 000 KMs ago. Oil change, etc.

As usual, my SG continues with having routine services only.

[EDIT] Actually, looking at the invoice, it appears that Ross replaced all four rotors.
[End Edit]

Your SH is an automatic? Much heavier brake wear on autos. You live in a city as well so much more use of brakes. Still high wear rate methinks.
Probably a fair observation.

It's also driven by my wife about 99.9% of the time, so she doesn't put it in sports mode, and drives on the brakes, as most drivers of automatics do.

It has only very rarely been on the open road, or tollways, FTM.

Anyway, all up cost was $1,490 ...

It's a good vehicle, and very safe, so I just put it down to TCO.

It's also the first model that GM had a hand in, and everywhere I look, I can see where they've shaved 10¢ off the cost of some component or other!
On a car that cost ~$43,000 new, that's inexcusable IMNSHO.

However, Porsche did similar things with a vehicle costing over $100K about 25 y.a. Still inexcusable.

Speaking of observations, being that type of person, I casually glance at the front wheels of parked cars as I walk past them. Autos generally have very dirty front wheels compared to manuals so, yes, it seems to me, as you comment, that most auto drivers do not use gears to slow down, relying solely on brakes. I know that most of my old faithful`s 390000 kms were done on highways until about 10 years ago. It probably explains why I am only on my second set of pads on both F `n B. The gearbox is good so a lot of use has not caused it any problems....yet!
