What have you done to your car today?

Fitted tie down points for my new fridge and other gear. Tested the fridge, works well as to be expected.
Now to start preparing my Forester for its next big trip with the Subaru 4wd Club of Vic, to the Big Desert & Boarder Track :)

Pulled the basher plate off my L series trying to find out what is causing a noise like loose bolt or rock bouncing around ? Also removed centre console and modified (Bent it) the 4wd gear stick getting ready to install the lift kit.

Shampooed the front seats on my 2002 SG, pumped up the front right tyre on the 2004.

Filled the XV loan car with petrol and took it for a short drive before lunch.
Did 142 km had lunch at Mansfield and drove another 142 km home!

Might have to give it back next week so thought I might as well enjoy it while I have it! Was going to throw my new fridge in the back, but discovered there is no power outlet. Damm accountants !!

Must say I am really enjoying the CVT. Nearly done 3,000 km in the XV over the last month, not a bad test drive

Turned the trip meter back to the odometer and had a "wonder when my next service is due" moment. Was shocked to discover that was in fact 2000kms ago... Argh!

Tried everywhere to get it done but being the long weekend there was at least a weeks wait. Given this weeks adventure will be 1100kms, purchased a set of ramps, filter & oil and Scooby2 is ready to roll again. Must have a lot on my mind to have missed that detail, I'm usually very pedantic about servicing when it's due.

Best regards,

^ S2, if you are using FS oil, it should not be as critical as all that.

My Forester was done within mileage but dead on 24 months, and the FS oil (Shell Helix Ultra 5W-40 FS) was all but as good as new. Smelled, felt and looked fine. Far, far better than high quality mineral oil would normally smell, feel and look at 6-9 months ...

The high quality 5W-40 FS oils cost a bomb, but are often available on special at Repco for around $50/5 litres. RRP is around $70/5L.

Good to get it done though ... :).

RB... I contemplated it ... Then spoke to my mechanic who reckoned to do it. Yes, Scooby2 always has the good oil... It's done now, but I will take her in for all the other oils that are due. i figure on the grand scheme of things it wasn't much bother... Now I have ramps it's a blissfully easy job!

Best regards,

Cost me $140 to have the gearbox and rear diff oils done in Roo2, mate.

Ross reckoned it should not be necessary, but agreed with me that one never quite knows what the go is with a s/h car, and that the last thing I wanted was to do my gearbox/diff in from towing long distances at highway speeds. Cheap insurance.

Ross said there was nothing untoward about the oils that came out, but one really only knows that from changing them.

And as you rightly say, it's done now  .

Hi PauSum,
I will be doing the Big Desert & Boarder Track over the Cup weekend. So rather than go down the path of hard wiring a deep cycle battery I settled on the acdc charger cause it is fully portable and will serve as my charger at home. I spoke at length to the guys at Ark as well as several battery suppliers and it made sense.
Anyway it will get a good test on this trip and will certainly report back. Just struggling with selecting the right size for the deep cycle battery. No point getting one too big given I should be recharging on the go.

Installed 50mm body lift kit and 50mm strut lift kit.

Now I just need to shorten the radiator hose and put the steering extension in.

Replaced front driver side axle seal, not too bad a job, took me 3 hours for a 1st time. :) No more puddles under my car :D
