What have you done to your car today?

^ Finished all that on RonnyRoo, including washing the inside of all windows with metho, updating the maps in her GPS and checking all wheel nuts for tightness. Bloody near killed me washing it yesterday in the rain and freezing cold ... 8°C. Love is both blind and stupid ... :iconwink:.

Roo2 also got some attention. Finished masking up the bull bar and applied a coat of matte black paint to the backs of the outside 'hoops'. Should reduce the glare considerably. The paint I used is Dulux Dura Max flat black. Touch dry in about 10-20 minutes. Won't come off either my fingers or the bar using turpentine after about 45 minutes ... Managed not to get over-spray on anything ... :poke: .

Back in Scooby2! It's like being without your favrit armchair. Everything in the right spot and she just ...... Goes!

Crisis averted. 1 sheep & 4 Roos in the first of 12 hours drive. Great seat, great brakes and overall great responsiveness!

Yeah, mate .

Good to hear that you all missed each other ...

That's why I am glad to have the roo bar on Roo2 now. Closest I've ever come to hitting anything big was a cow at 90 mph in the middle of the day in the 1960s.

However, dusk and dawn are very dangerous times ... :iconwink: :(.
The light bar will help to see them as far out as possible ...

On my drive through the Flinders I had several close calls with roos & a cow, I grazed one roo but no damage to my car or him. Glad you've been lucky too

Not to the cars, but cleaned what passes for a valley gutter between the main roof of the house and the enclosed carport that passes for a garage - it's only about 5 x 6 m (L x W), so will barely fit a car, even if not full of other crap!

The gutter drains 65^m of roof, so is just a tad small for the job at about 50 mms deep and 75 wide ... of course the gap between the two steel roofs is about 50mm at best, and I have to be very careful about even very minor cuts (Warfarin ... ).

Also of course, this gutter is bloody superb at getting clogged with leaves; which are then all but impossible to remove safely ...

Replacing this gutter will involve removing/replacing the garage roof.

It's currently 7.7C, and raining ...

This arvo, we are supposed to get heavy rain - a guarantee that this gutter will overflow, wetting everything about a foot either side of it in the garage. "Heavy rain" is a euphemism here for a torrential downpour ...

I filled 2x 25 kg salt bags.
I didn't get any cuts.
It took about 10 minutes soaking in warm water before I could feel my hands again ...

Hopefully, the gutter will now take most of the water.

Do I hate this gutter? :puke:

Rant over ... :poke:

Just love a good rant......
Gutters can be a real pain.
Same sort of problem here in Happy Valley. Gutters overflow. Want to solve problem with more downpipes and storage tanks.
All in good time but before (the dry) summer I hope.

Not today, but almost two weeks ago now I got Ruby Scoo back on the road after an 8 month gearbox "journey of roadblocks" that was finally sorted.

Ended up with SG cases, so new oil feeders were arranged:

A few more mods later and things are going together as they should (finally!):

Gearbox back together:

Motor cycle jack to put it in from under the vehicle:

Then making new friends a day or two after the box is back in. I've missed this old girl!

Still got a list of things to do as usual, but she's going and I'm happy with that!

Cheers

Who welded the case for you?

Same guy that owns this device where I've done other work before:

I've had quite a bit of time in this shed to get this gearbox sorted. The cost was a bottle of port :D

If you're using the SG cases you could get away without welding like I have on the lower barb. The SG cases are thicker and the top barb could've had the gap in the case filled with the two part metal epoxy stuff. This could then be drilled and tapped without the need to weld a base plate in place.

Definitely flatten the area to make the barb sit vertical before you drill and tap - one thing I wished I had done to avoid further shaving of other spaces to fit the barb and tube in place.

Cheers

Bought a Super Cheap Auto 150 watt drink can inverter for charging camera batteries and other gadgets while travelling. Was on sale for $39.99 v $49.99. Also has a 2 amp USB.

Hi All
Spent 2 days trying to find an annoying noise that i thought was in the front of my car. I was thinking that i had a bad CV in the front but no ..... what i actually had was a large stick stuck in the rear suspension. For some reason it sounded like it was coming from the front . Oh well at least i "fixed " it LOL

Thanks mate ;) so not to hijack the thread :)

^ no worries, mate.

After the rain this morning (all three drops of it ... ), I examined the holes around the bottom of my 'new' SubaXtreme roo bar. Worked out that they were originally threaded, not self tapping screws. Also the size. Managed to find that a 3/16th W thread dome head would fit at least one.

Broke out a 3/16th W tap. Cleaned it. Found my Rocol cutting fluid. Ran the tap through the dozen holes, carefully cleaning the tap with cloth and wire brush between holes, and re-oiling with the Rocol ... It would be FAR easier to do this before putting the bar on the car!

Also specially important with alloy to turn the tap a couple of turns and then back off, otherwise the swarf will cut a crap thread.

Did the 12 or so existing holes. Need to make another 5 across the front - all will be revealed later. Found the right size dome heads in my mess of a garage as well ... :).

Also pulled the d/s dash apart, and finally managed to remove the centre dash top cubby from its hole.

A somewhat productive day.

Broke one of the fog light brackets off the rear of my SubaXtreme roo bar :(.

Trying to adjust it the "easy" way ...

Bloody thing was very badly designed to start with. Basically no adjustment without removing and re-fitting the fog light, which is almost impossible to get at with the roo bar on the car ... :puke:

I am planning to make a new bracket that will be easily adjustable in situ, both vertically and horizontally. Drew up the design this arvo.

It will also allow the fog light assembly to be removed and re-fitted easily.

Still a pain in the freckle ...

^ actually, I was using my Holden owner's screwdriver ...

You know the one - 15-18" long, square section shaft, 1/2" blade .... can also be used to rearrange the car on a chassis stand, if needs be ... :iconwink:  :rotfl:.

Some photos tomorrow, maybe.
