What have you done to your car today?

used the 'under vehicle car wash'

Ignored a 'road closed' sign on the way back from the football tonight and drove through the 'long puddle' that one of my local 'rat runs' becomes whenever their is decent rain. The road runs parallel to Moonee Ponds Creek, for those who know inner Melb.
Anyway, slow and steady and no probs at all. Was 'cool' to see the 'steam' rising from where water was in contact with 'hot bits'! :lildevil:
The car behind me waited, watched then did a u-turn to find another route!:poke:

Purchased 2 'Missile launcher' switch covers (carbon fibre) and 2 'toggle' switches from Jaycar. Unfortunately, couldn't find switches with in-built light, like Mr Turbo has.

I replaced my bull bar turn signal lights today with some chasing arrow ones.:quitar:

maintainence

I replaced the cam seals, timing belt, rocker cover gaskets(had to pull motor as it's a tight fit for the EJ22 in hte hatchie..., inspected clutch(after slipping it 4 times!) It's still good..WOOT!
New plugs, fuel filter, straightened skid/bashplate. press. washed undercarraige...Test drive ...ready for X-mas valley run this coming weekend..

Assessment finally done.

Took 'Charlie' to the panel beater for the 'photo shoot' in preparation for repair of my hail damage.
The first comment ... "Well you'll need a new roof." (Roof only has a couple of dings compared to bonnet!!)

Anyway, I think I will possibly end up with all new panels on LHS including doors, new roof and new bonnet, as well as trim around doors on RHS.

All this work for just $600 excess cost :)

Was told that they have done a number of Subis (had a new roof and bonnet for another just off the delivery truck) but only a couple of Fords.

Sort of confirms my thoughts that Subi steel sheet metal is thinner than local, weight saving I suppose. (Also consistent with onebob's observations about his current model Fori being lighter panels than his 07.)

They will need the car for a couple of weeks. Thankfully my insurance will cover a replacement car for that period!

Am very thankful that my insurer did not 'write off' my car, as some are doing to much newer cars.

Couldn't afford to replace Charlie for what he is insured for, and that is before extras.

Just a thought re the replacement car, check what your excess is on that, because when i was offered a hire car after someone ran into my (parked) car (my old golf), the excess was about 2000 dollars, cos I was under 25 at the time. I told them to forget it.

Joel

being old 'n' grey is to your advantage Barry - relaxes people when the grey beards are on scene ....... accumulated knowledge, firm hand on the rudder, and all that stuff.

2 and a 1/4 cat back system tucked nicely up under Ruby Scoo - nothing hanging low now :D

And this is what you get for not reading the coolant label properly:

^ Yep that was a bit of a process to solve! Basically it was start for a tiny bit of time over and over until some heat built up, then progressively run for longer - put a blanket on top of the engine to retain some heat. Then we got some new anti freeze and shoved it in. It still took about 50km for the heater core to thaw out so we didn't have a heater for a while.

Been running great ever since - as you'll see in the video :monkeydance:

Cheers

05 Outback ~ 2" lift

Discussed King Springs with local suspension shop this morning.

Have up-dated the details of my intended lift at:
https://offroadsubarus.com/showthread.php?p=16478#post16478

Kingsprings + Subtlesolutions 25mm strut lift will give me:

Front: 40mm and rear 50mm, with a more level ride, for approx.$1200 (inc. new rear struts).

Was advised that the 05 Outback has camber bolts at rear (near the diff) and on top at the front, so all good for re-setting camber.

Would 40mm be sufficient to allow for larger tyre diameter (within legal limits)? Could give me an extra 5 - 10mm next time! :lildevil:

After owning my GT for 3 years (bought Feb 07) I finally got around to fixing my clock!!

I highly recommend the fix to anyone who's clock is cactus.

Just search for "Oh no my clock doesn't work" on google and it'll take you to the sf.org thread on it.

There *might* even be a copy of it on this site....

Whelp, it wasn't today, but I finally replaced my leaky thermostat housing.:) Big surprise, there was NO gasket under the plastic housing , I would think that over time a plastic housing, with no gasket, over time is going to warp and start to leak. I put the old housing on a surface plate and sure enough there was a big gap under it. Replacement was with a metal housing AND a gasket.

Bad news is, I still have a leak. This pretty much means that my water pump is leaking, guess it's time for a premature timing belt and water pump replacement.

Today I've just cleaned it!! I even enjoy that with the subaru!! I hated cleaning the Kia thats why it had to go!! (oh yes it was a s**t car too)
