What have you done to your car today?

Put a 2.5 engine in the foz on the weekend after the 2.0 died. Turns out the ej 20 sump was majorly deformed and the timing belt pulley had eaten itself.

Turns out it already had a exedy sports tuff clutch with good life left. This foz it getting better and better. :ebiggrin:

That'll bring things to a dead halt every time ... :( :puke:.

Interestingly, the timing belt that Ross replaced in Roo2 looked like brand new after 110,000 kms.

Turns out it already had a exedy sports tuff clutch with good life left. This foz it getting better and better. :ebiggrin:

That's starting to look better and better, mate ... :biggrin:.

(Mostly) anything mechanical can be repaired or replaced on a car for some semblance of a reasonable amount of money.
Removing systemic rust or major abuse damage can cost more than going out and buying a brand new car of the same make and model!

yea thats awesome news Dave, good stuff
good for u 2 have offroad wheels again to come on cruises
dont forget to do easy on reverse with the ej25 on the SF box haha

New exhaust from Castle Hill Exhaust & Performance fitted today; hi flow cat and cat back. Sounds nice but the loud pedal is exactly that! Settles when cruising.

Received the new Hotbits coil overs today, will take pics to compare with the OEM's before installation.

Been pretty busy between working on the novel, kayaking, and fixing cars at work, but I finally found some time over the last couple weekends to get a few things done. Headgaskets were going on my 2.5 again, too, but I think I found a solid solution to the problem.

Also updated my stickers!

Put on a new exhaust, too!

Anyway, late last night, I ordered up some Chinese, relaxing after cleaning up, hanging around in the shop, all that jazz, and I opened up a fortune cookie.

Somehow, it knew about the other thing I installed this weekend.

EZ30D :D There's still plenty of finish work to do, but I've been driving around town with it a bit and it is a COMPLETELY different animal from the EJ25. It wants to rev to the moon at every opportunity, pulls like a freight train with torque on demand, and manages to be impossibly fun in every way.

I was leery of taking it past 4 grand on the rev counter at first, but it feels like it's making up for lost time being stuck with an automatic and it just wants to run through the gears like they're not even there.

As for the muffler, I'm not too keen about the very Honda-like rasp it has under load, but that may temper with time, and at idle and cruise it's absolutely silent. It's a twin-loop, so it feeds the flow through the expansion chamber twice to keep the noise level down, which is ideal for someone who spends a lot of time sneaking out of campsites at very early hours. I'm tinkering with electric cutouts in the headers at some future date, too, but that can wait!

All in all, it is WELL worth the effort for the swap, and so long as I can nail down everything for durability and reliability, I'm quite sure it'll be living happily under that hood for quite some time to come.

Took the 2002 SG Forester to Pedders in South Melbourne this morning for a 4 wheel alignment given that I have recently put in a 1 inch Gorilla lift kit on top of the raised King springs.
Marc seems to know what he is talking about and has left the car with some positive camber. He does not believe that it will cause unnecessary tyre wear. He has told me that if the outer edges of the tyres show any wear he will install camber bolts and not charge me for the alignment.
I am still contemplating putting in longer sway bar links due to the lift and given that one front and one rear are stuffed.

Nolathane make sway bar links that can be cut to the appropriate length.

which could be used on the rear. They also make a longer fixed length link that is suitable for the front.

I don't know if anyone else has looked into these. Repco and Autobarn stock these.

You sold your outback shiv?

Yeah the ej25 isn't impressive behind the 4eat. Its good behind a 5mt but having driven a h6 5mt it has a nice flat d torque curve. However a ej255 turbo is much better again..

Updates, too! All the gauges work correctly again, and most impressively, the cruise control works flawlessly with the new motor. There's still the CEL and the idle is all kinds of wonky, but I'm pretty sure that's all TCM related and I can nail it down this weekend.

The best part of this entire swap? I have not made a single cut to the stock harness.

Not one.

There's tons of wiring to be done to make it work, but I did indeed make it entirely plug and play. I'll eventually be putting up the details and such when I get everything 100% squared away and functional, but if the worst happened tomorrow, i could go right back to my EJ25 in less than a day with minimal fuss!

havachat those end links look great!

Hi Nachaluva,
I have found Nolathane to be most helpful. Interestingly both Nolathane and Whiteline are owned by the same company.

You can buy the links either individually or in pairs which is good if one wears out.

My theory at this stage is that by lifting the vehicle by approximately 50mm, I need to increase the length of the sway bar links by approximately the same amount to relieve pressure on the sway bar. Hopefully this will increase/maintain the articulation particularly in the rear.

OK. This wasn't done today. Guilty. Pictures were taken today of last project completed in the rear of the Beigewagon.

I am just trying to workout how to put the link in here.

Members Journals, Beigewagons rear end.

[EDIT] From the above post onwards - RB]

Beigewagon.

I have inserted the link for you. If you now edit your post in this thread, you can see how I have done it.

Basically:

Go to the post you want to reference in another browser window or tab;

Right click on the post number (#36 in this case) in the upper right corner of the post frame;

Left click on "Copy Link Address" (exact wording depends on your browser);

Return to your browser window/tab where you are writing your post;

Highlight the text that you want to have the link attached to;

Click on the "Insert link" icon (Earth with chain link through the bottom of it) at the top of the editor window;

In the dialog box that comes up, press CTRL+V simultaneously to insert the link address you have previously copied to your computer's clipboard.

After doing this, preview your post and check that the link works by right clicking on it in the preview window and selecting "Open in new window".

When another person does this, the individual post will be displayed. They will have the option to return to the referenced thread, and the thread will automatically open at the referenced post, so they can then read from there onwards.

Hope this helps ... :).
