What have you done to your car today?

I'm also on the look out for a dash-cam atm.
One that has so far ticked most, if not all the boxes is one called the "car black box"

After almost being taken out 3 or 4 times in the past week, I think it's time to get some video proof.

I trailered the subaru to a mate's dad's joint for some TLC, including some under car degreasing and high pressure gernie work.

Then I hope to get some hoist time before it comes home again.

Towing a car trailer that's a solid axle is something different!

Cheers

What did I to my car yesterday?

I beat the hell out of it!

Stopped in the middle of nowhere...

To fix an exhaust situation...

But we made it back in one piece, defeated by seasonal roads with horrendously deep snow!!

I also have several hours of GoPro footage to work through, but I need a new harddrive first, so it might be a bit before I get around to it. We had a hell of a time, though.

Yeah, exhausts do cop a hammering lol

I finished my breather hose today...again! This time with a brass fitting & a clamp on the hose. Took me a whole day to remove/refit the diff but only 15min to remove the back plate, tap the hole, wash & refit it...grrrr

Hopefully this will be the last time the diff needs to come out...

Photos when Image Shack decides to be nice & work!

Connected power and a fuse to the wiring harness for my sub...still don't know why i put it back in.. doof doof doof. With all the acc the alternator charge is down a touch. time to look for a bigger one.

Test fitted a set of Yokohama ATS 215-65-16 on steel rims that I bought second hand on my 2002 SG. They look good. I also got a 5th steel rim in the deal. I need to get a spare before I go anywhere on them. I doubt that I will be able to fit snow chains as the top of the front tyres are very close to the lower spring perch.

Mounted the vw gti 5 spokes on my fozzy. With a ET38 the stance is a bit wider and looks much better. And indeed you feel the difference. I platidipped them flatblack that was necessary becaus they where ugly when i bought them for a reasonable 70 euro's. I am happy with the results.

now i have to find the time to mount the kings and the new front shocks who are waiting in my garage...

I grabbed a set of rear discs and calipers for my car from the wreckers. In my ignorance I used petroleum based grease on my rear caliper slide pins, it swelled the rubber and they basically seized. So now I have a spare set to paint up and fit :) FYI only use silicone lubricants on your calipers!

OUCH, Venom ... :(

I don't know what's worse - making that kind of error in the first place; or having to do it all over again! My sympathies. Been there, done that myself.

I almost did that last week venom, I had to redo the front brakes on my daihatsu daily, went to grease the pins and stopped just before i did thinking "**** that's not gonna work"

finished my homemade and half assed skidplates along with my temporary front end fix w/ a slightly improved approach angle.

Last week got a nice new windscreen (under my insurance cover) - old one was badly pitted.

Had a bad wheel bearing, stuffed top hat, and two hammered ball joints replaced. Beats car payments I suppose. It's funny how you get used to noises in older cars, it's so quiet now.

Just finished flushing my gearbox oil & putting 1L of Redline lightweight shockproof + Penrite ProGear 75W90 in it. This will protect the LR better & should give better gear changes

Bought a spare equalizer strap at the Supercheap Auto customer night for half price less the $10 credit given to me to spend on the night total cost $10 !!
Just had a phone call from Supercheap so say I won the door prize raffle that has been drawn !!

Good work, mate. Now, the $10,000 question - How well is it going to work?

Nice . Nothing like a new screen to improve your "looks" :poke:  :rotfl:.
I think our policies still want us to pay a $500 excess for that! Have to check.

Geez, E.J.. Glad you picked those up :)! Potentially deadly stuff :(.

Oswina will be very happy to have that in her gearbox, NL. Hope it improves the gear changing. Roo1 was getting very cranky about almost all of its gears, changing both up and down ... I don't think that changing the oil would have fixed what it had wrong ... ;).

That's great, HC. Nothing beats a really good deal, AND winning the door prize on top!

good question, it should work better than the stock plastic but i dont do very hardcore offroading so it should hold up til i can afford a tube bumper.

Noticed during the week that each night as I arrived home and left the car idling while I got out to open the garage that the thermo fans were coming on - unusual, but didn't think too much of it. Last night though the gauge was up a tad higher than normal as well so thought I'd better investigate. Looks like the radiator is leaking between the aluminium core and the plastic top. I guess 12 years and 232000km is not a bad run from a radiator! Time to find a replacement.

There's something to be said for having a proper temp gauge with a linear scale, rathen than just 'cool' and 'hot' lights like some new cars. It makes it easy to see if it's just a little hotter than normal and catch a problem like this early on.
