Nice one ElFreddo! They will make a world of difference
Not today but yesterday I got my new tyres to replace my Geolander AT-S. I previously got 53,000km(18months) from my Geo's and was very pleased with that, they were excellent tyres all up until about 20% tread left and were pretty rubbish after that.
I went with Dunlop AT3's for a few reasons over getting Geo's again. 1: on a 15" rim I couldn't get any bigger than 215/70R15 in the AT-S which was too small for the amount of lift I had and looks extremely out of place; 2: The dunlops were cheaper by $30 a tyre and 3: Have a better warranty system and it's valid for 4 years with unlimited km aswell as offroad (sidewall and puncture) repair and replacement depending on tread left.
I chose to get 225/70R15. These are the smallest size they did, and they still fit under the stock SF spring perch by about 1mm unlike 215/75R15. They are slightly smaller than 215/70R16 but larger than 215/65R16.
So far they grip well in the dry onroad, I've already put a few hundred km on them since getting them yesterday morning and so far am impressed. There is abit more noise than my Geolanders onroad but nothing like BFG's, Coopers or Duelers.
I went and tested them out in some soft sand too, I was very impressed. I did a few hill climbs with tight tyres and they didn't even really spin while before my bald Geo's would spin like all hell up the same hills. All in all I'm happy with my purchase.
The only negative is that I can notice the car is slightly less powerful, not hugely but slightly. While before it was quite spritely for what it was in day to day driving. The tyres have also made my speedo dead accurate
