What have you done to your car today?

Bought a 4.44:1 rear LSD diff today, also sourced an L series box.

Project "Custom dual range" is go!

Now on the lookout for a;

5spd DCCD and controller,
4.44:1 front ring and pinion,
Front LSD,
SF dual range box (or 1st and 2nd gearset).

I'm hoping to pull it off for around $2,200.

Lots of pics please.

I have the 'guts' of a LSD rear diff, but still trying to source a shell to put it in.

Awesome Stilson, this is gonna be sweet when you get it done! Might have to try and keep up with me :P

I think he'll be running rings around everyone without an issue when hes done. :iconwink: Hell he already does that now. :raz:

Haha, I don't even attempt to do some of the stuff Taza does.

Same can be said in reverse. Like that power lines climb. We still can't believe you did that. With a box like you've got planned plus your lift youll be almost unstopable!

Yeah I dunno, we are both pretty nuts. Both usually taking different approaches :iconwink:
Stilson "Give it some, then stop before you hit the tree" , I'll never forget that from the powerlines

Busy week for our Foresters

We had the right rear wheel bearing replaced on the 98. I'm amazed at how long Judy put up with that noise. It would have driven me nuts.

The 04 XT only has 47k miles on it but was over the recommended months for a timing belt service. I went whole hog and had everything replaced. Timing, Alt, and AC belts
Every pulley and the tensioner
Crank and cam seals
Water pump
Hoses

Needless to say we blew through our stash of $1,500 worth of Subaru bucks. It is a good feeling getting this work behind us.

I hope that is 147k on it.."typo perhaps..?"
105k is the service interval...

If it had alot of miles on it good call on the "works.." for reliability.
Figure if your already in it..
An once of prevention is a lb. of cure...

The works is always a good thing... reminds me my timing belt and w/p need doing on my new motor :(

I washed my Foz today, gave it a quick vac too :)

Here is a pic of me towing a trailer a hundred km or so. Surprisingly with nothing on the roof it towed it quite easily and fuel efficiently.. :P

The new lift has really helped too, it sits slightly higher at the back with the trailer on.

I do believe it is only 47k. I know SuperRu lives where he just does not have to drive all that much.

Awesome SuperRu!!! Cool to have a car that old with that few miles on it. How many on the '98???

My service book says 105k or 105 months whichever occurs first. I purchased the car in July 2003. That puts me at 110 months. I real glad to have it done. Several of the pulleys were getting loud signaling future failure.

98.5k and the Legacy wagon has 178k and it runs like a clock.

Switch Panel and ABS Interrupt Relay (4 hours).

My first goal was one 5-pin normally-closed relay wired into ABS 30-amp feed, near ABS solenoid. Later on, I will wire two normally closed relays wired into hot side of cooling fans "main" and "sub." So far I have a working ABS cutoff relay.

1. The power source is an added accessory fuse panel on plastic housing above metal firewall in engine room passenger side. I used 8-gau wire from batt to fuse panel, and another 8-gau ground wire to the convenient RH strut tower.
3. I then installed a 4-slot lighted switch panel in cigar lighter cavity, held in place with Velcro to avoid drilling holes. I then ran a 5 foot wiring harness from cigar lighter area, through maze under dash, through 3" rubber grommet in firewall near passenger's footwell, to the new fuse panel area. The harness was 1/2 inch plastic loom, containing 14 gau hot & grd wires, 4x18gau relay feeds, and a 14gau spare wire. I chose colors red for ABS relay feed, blue for fan cutoff feed, with green&yellow spare feeds for future mods.
4. It was easiest to mount the ABS normally closed relay on a handy brake line bracket. I mounted an electric backup alarm on the same bolt for use as fan cutoff alarm.
5. The final steps were: Remove air filter cover; cut ABS 30A feed; install male and female shielded connectors to allow reconnection if relay fails. Wire up relay in normally closed fashion to red lighted switch. Connect same to red 18gau feed, ground side of fuse panel, and appropriate sides of the cut 30A ABS feed. After testing, replace air cleaner cover.
6. I tried the sucker out by hooking up battery, turning on ignition and turning red switch on. The red switch actually lighted up, and the ABS and VDC Christmas tree lights illuminated.

I will field test this setup the next time we go to South Padre Island beach.

Very cool viejo! I'd love to see some pics.

I have to jump out and pull the fuse. This on on my to do list along with a cruise control latching relay and TPS A/C cutout.

G'day viejopedorro :welcome:

Great job on the wiring mods. What subie do you drive? You could add some details to your signature & also location so we can answer any questions you might have a bit better.

But I also have some questions for you lol. Can you post wiring diagrams of both the fan & ABS switches? We would love to see them! Maybe do it in your own thread so others can use it as a reference...

Great job!

SuperRu, it must be nice knowing all that work is done & your Subie is running like new
