What have you done to your car today?

Nah there 16 x 7, 5 x 100, wheels 215/65/16

Decided to play it safe and just go up a size... ET40 should be ok and fill the gap.

Fitted new roof basket.

Picked up a 'Prorack' roof basket on special at SuperCheap today.
Only seem to have one size, but it is just right for the Outback.:)
(Have decided that a basket will be better suited for the Cameron Corner trip than the roof pod. Somewhere to store fuel, water & spare tyre/s.)
The basket will also provide attachment points for my new awning.

I also bought one of those baskets from supercheap, not a bad little unit for the price. I also built and installed a skid, then bashed it up offroad, held up nicely so im very happy.

Yeah took a couple of pics. I just bought a sheet of 3mm alloy, made a cardboard template, cut it to shape, then folded it up on my uncles pan brake. Havnt got any pics of it now thats it nice and 'worn in', but hears some after i fitted it.

And heres a little vid of it going up a hill, unfortunately the batteries went flat on the camera before i could get any real footage, it was just the first stage of a huge multi-stage climb :( Made it up just fine, and the second attempt, it just came on boost and spun into a rut on this go.

Drove it into town for the follow up on an interview... and I got a job!

Sunday - swapped knock sensor and applied upper cylinder cleaner.

Took my OB in for the rear door latch re-call on Monday. (All OK, sticker on Drivers side door pillar to prove it!)
Had a look at new OB & Liberty while there.

  • OB / Lib not as bad as pics of 'big a*se' US model (Tribeca with OB badge :lildevil:) but I still prefer the 05-09 wrap around glass and no door frames.
  • Thankfully, neither have the stupid 'pop out' roof racks!
  • Interesting that the new model OB is the same price as the superceded model! (So no chance of a 'cheap' up-grade to the 09 model! ;) )
  • More aggressive front styling is getting closer to the bulbous front end of the big Audi - the ugliest wheels on the road, IMHO. :p:raspberry:

Filled some space... made some more space...

  • Purchased a Projecta Typhoon air compressor at REPCO for 25% off.
  • Picked up my 'rain check' of 3x5l bottles of Castrol Magnatec from Supercheap. Saved 3 x $10.00. Will see if they still have some on the shelves on my way home tonight. :p
I am getting to feel like the bloke in the 'Supercheap' add! :poke:

Filled space in car, made space in wallet. Everything is in equilibrium.

Interesting recall barry! And the tribeca badged as an Outback in the US?! Thats just wrong - and an insult to the outback in my opinion.

And what did I do with my subi today I hear you all ask? Nothing! I left her in the driveway as I had no where to go to day. I did contemplate some light 4wd'n but decided not to... Still need to install the bash plate with some spacers (EJ sump is deeper than the EA's).

Cheers

Bennie

US MY10 Outback the new Tribeca?

Bennie

I guess I should explain Bennie, the US 'Outback' is now a 'wider platform' than the Aus Japan [and Europe I think] Outback. I think they have also dropped the Tribeca, at least in the US. IMHO the US vehicle is, in reality, a replacement for the Tribeca, not the Outback. But I could be wrong.
Also, the US no longer have manual trans. Outback. It is a cvt [continuously variable transmission] set up. This should work well on road, but I'm not convinced it will work well in any number of genuine off-road situations. eg: not sure how well it would 'rock' when being 'un-stuck'.
Seems to me that the 04-09 model is the last light weight (but not as light as yours ;) ) off-roadable Subie 'family' wagon. Now they only have the Forrie, which is more an RV than a wagon.
The beginning of the end of a 20+ year era. Hopefully the Aussie OBW will continue for a few more years yet, even if it now does have door frames!
I would be interested to hear the views of members 'across the big lake' on this.

This is untrue. The standard transmission in the Outback is a 6 spd manual, with the CVT as an option. They did away with the "normal" 4 and 5 spd automatics.

why are car factories putting 6speeds behind a 4. i had a Gen 3 with a 6speed. it wasnt much good. 5 was plenty. some cars companies are getting 7 speed manual and 6 speed autos. i have a 13speed in a semi i drive and dont need all them gears. when will it stop?

buy the way today i changed my coolant to subaru coolant and washed it after a trip 4wdriving in yawal near Nowra
