What factors make Off Road Ability?

That's what a few of us have. Dedman has 2 inch body lift and 4" lift from Hotbits and no strut top spacers. Plus 1.59 low range, 4.44 diff ratios, rear air locker, DCCD and Cusco front LSD.
Ahhh. Here I was thinking it was just suspension on Dedmans.

My Hotbits are just 2" lift. Dedmans gone 4" and driveline drop. The extra 2" of body clearance is noticeable when I offroad with him.

Lockers definitely make cars capable. Disclaimer, no Dedman, just my Forester and an L Series.
Diff locked Forester and L Series

Thats 4" lift right there. Body clearance maybe noticeable from side sure but front and rear are kinda worse with those subframe spacers in front specially it looks bad and weak.

He said himself in its video that he didint liked those parts too and he would remodify that in some other way even maybe cut front subframe and reweld it .
So my clearance numbers are better and look in front whats going on there, those tiny spacers. Think how hard you would hit that step in front now that its not going smooth from bumper. And all that dirt mud and other stuff just going inside there because now there is gap there.
How thats good not sure. Maybe for just dry and sandy places for rocks could be.. and that muffler in rear will hang so low if you not modify it.

Is the 12kg center differential enough for serious offroading or does it slip too much versus a DCCD ?

russians love to make bigfoots

and then some wild VW passat come in at 8:19 , and you know you failed with your track haha. they said like "where the hell this guy came from"

The start of the video I posted is the best example I have on how well the 12Kg centre works. If you just go very slowly when you lift a wheel then you will only spin the front wheel. So not as good as the DCCD. I had to keep increasing the rpm a little with each wheel lift to get the car to move forwards again. With the increased rpm the 12Kg can spin both rear wheels on that surface. I suspect the 12Kg will struggle wheel lifting wheels on steep terrain. For my level of offroad the 12Kg is fine. For Dedman's level you really want DCCD.

Welp, it seems like the TFL guys are just biased against Subarus.

I think they don't want the Subaru owners to do whatever they want with their cars. They have the old argument that you should buy a real 4x4 instead.

I remember them buying a Subaru Outback, because Subaru wouldn't loan them one anymore, and driving it up one hill which it didn't clear. The local club went up there and cleared that same obstacle plenty of times with their CVT Outback.

The channel just doesn't understand how you should use the CVT off-road. They took a vehicle and drove it up the way they usually do and it didn't work. Every vehicle has its weaknesses. Besides, off-road does not only mean rock crawling.

Niva vs Jeep vs forester , whos better in mud ? forester with air suspension 2-3'' lift
strange that jeeps loosing power in middle of hill, means its drivers fault, they driving on traction control or not fixing one gear, as they have plenty power to spin wheels there but they not doing it.
but only niva had mud tires so yh. that said i would never pick that car or drive it anywhere. put same tires on all then try. that niva doesnt even have 100 hp. but has low gear so thats helps.

guys bought GAZ 66 , its cheap old but works well off road. there still couple those cars left here in our country as well, you can buy it like for 1.5-3k euros in not very good shape or restored with diesel engine for much more . but its has center lock, front lock, rear lock and low gears, factory mechanical winch, air system from cabin, i mean its great, just original petrol engine drinks a lot. still its fun and capable. in russia there is still tons of them and parts that was left from old times

Thats a really nice video with a cool ambience, thank you Russians !

so now his fory deos everything, or does it ? for sure he dont need jeep now, but depends on what you want from experience, like now this car done nothing else to do with it , so where you going from there, i would be just bored now as i made it as capable as i could.

There's always more to do to a car! For a starters he forgot the very very first mod, a bash plate! Longer travel coilovers would help massively. An L series low range would be an upgrade. Rock sliders would help if he wants to do larger rocks without panel damage. And then there's all the personal touches you do over time to tweak the car the way you want. But personally I like to test each new mod one at a time so that I can appreciate each one individually. I also know where the weak points are each time so I know where I want to improve next to get the best value.

One thing at a time and only things that you really need that you where lacking on your tracks in your area. And to learn and level up , earn skills is best on open diffs stock car not on lockers .

And now that you have a rear locker, what would be your next modification ?

how good tesla's traction control is ? well better then dasia has and it should be much better because 2 engines and just all torque is there, i think new E cars with 4 motors like Rivian could be climb masters in all , just imagine 4 engines for every wheel separate can work separately as it needs. i mean even 2 engines is enough to make tesla good slow climber there

No doubt about the efficiency of the electric motor. Electric car manufacturers can actually make all four wheels go at the same rate, emulating a fully-locked 4x4. That would be interesting.

A partner of a family member has a Tesla S and it can reverse up their very steep driveway without any problem at all; I have to put the Triton in low range 4WD to achieve the same result! Have not attempted it in the Foz as yet but being lighter it should do OK.

Imagine having all that insta-torque. It would be interesting how manufacturers implement their AWD system in their electric models. The new ones coming out are bleeding-edge and they have already shown signs of planned obsolescense so I am really interested in how the big Auto companies implement theirs.

By the way, Toyota said about 8 years ago that they would be releasing a new battery technology this year. We still have 10 more months to wait. With electric vehicles, we really need good range and a way to top-up remotely.
