General Tyre / Tire Discussion

You are doing very well, Ate.

That's about all that one can reasonably expect from a set of tyres these days.

I suspect that my next tyres will be 215/65 16" Bridgestone Dueler D697. My insurer is OK with them, and they will be mentioned on the policy.

One of my Michelins has already been the subject of a little dust up with the Michelin Rep, who made a sensible business decision to give me a new tyre for about $25-30.

I suspect that I will be lucky to get 50,000 Kms from the Michelins.
I'd be happy to get 50,000 from any tyre on any car and I'm on my 31st! Latitude Cross any good on wet clay/mud?

I haven't got less than 56,000 kms out of a set of tyres in the last 30 years, and I consider this very marginal!

From my Batphone

Performance cars, 'nuff said! Comment on Latitude Cross on wet clay?

My house mate is going for the Grabbers in a larger size for his Navara. All reports from the States is good. Haven't really come across anything bad and he digs pretty hard in his research.

@ taza, do you think that even a bigger tyresize as your 215/75/15 would fit a fozzy?. I am thinking to go for a 225/75/15 or even a 235/75/15 as long as it doesn rub.

Currently i have 205/75/15 and have 2.5 cm space between my reartyre and the lower springperch of my sg shocks.

We don't have the legal problems that you guys have in australia so i want the biggest tyre possible.

So far I love them! Havent really given them a real solid workout but they have taken everything i have thrown at them in style. Only real down side is they are a bit slippery in the wet on a smooth bit of tarmac, more so than other ATs i have driven on. nothing a bit of careful throttle control wont fix

I've got the 215/70/16s on the GT alloys.

I paid $209ea for 5. Its a good time to buy them, as the AT2 are coming out soon and they are getting rid of old stock, seen the same ones i have for less than $200 now.

On a side note...The BFG AT KO 2 looks like a tough little doughnut!

General Grabbers are very popular in the states. Seem pretty good & I havent heard anything bad about them.

The new BFG AT KO2 does look good & the old BFGs are now cheap to get rid of old stock. Still a great tyre!

CFH, I have 215/75/15 and they only rub on the rear with the SF struts. If you have SG struts they'll be fine. Don't think you can fit 235/75/15 though

I'll be fitting Bridgestone D697s this week hopefully, on the OEM 16" steels. Here in NZ the maximum legal increase without certification is 5% circumference - so 215/70r16s are out. Which is fine, as I want to still be able to fit chains for skiing, which is possible with the 215/65r16s (but not with the 70s).

I have heard the BFGs tend to get blocked with mud easily. The D697s on my Dad's Pathfinder have impressed me so far in that respect, and they're unholy on gravel.

Yes, but some are a little better than others.

I had the BF AT's and now run the Grabber AT's and despite they look less aggressive, they are better on slippery and muddy terrains.

Yeah NL the 697s are surprisingly good in mud, the tread pattern is more open than the BFG which is quite tortuous. The 697s don't look that impressive but they work well!

Just got mine fitted today. I went with 215/65r16s as I wanted to be able to fit chains to all 4 wheels for extreme mud (haha) and for skiing. The fact that this set was $600NZ fitted and balanced, for 4 brand-new Bridgestone ATs helped too...
