General Tyre / Tire Discussion

The day we see Nacha driving in Bridgestones, I will eat my hat!

Haha :raz:

They do look good & I accept they have improved on the old 694(?) but I still have my doubts over how well they maintain they're grip. Will they harden up with age as all other Bridgestones do IME? Time will tell...

Well, we'll see how they age. I read a few online reviews and there weren't any major complaints about that I think.

Thats because it happens slowly so no-one notices. Like a frog doesn't notice its in boiling water if he's put in cold water & brought to the boil :iconwink:

Haha I thought you liked nature! Good anecdote though. Ah well, cheapest Yokos I could find were cracking $200 each and the Bridgestones are more aggressive anyway. Besides which I've got a set of road tyres so even if these do harden up it's not like I have to put up with it every day anyway.

Can one ever really compare a just-noticeable difference over a time span of years or tens of thousands of kilometres? I doubt it ...

I don't like boiled frogs ... ;). Dear little creatures.

a General Grabber 225/75r15 fits on SG5 with 2" lift?

Should fit but not sure, you might need some wheel spacers.

i think this too but 215 fits perfect a 225 is 10mm more large or 5mm to each side maby i need only 5mm or more?

From what I saw on my Foz the other day the 225 will fit at the rear, but clearance to the spring perch could be an issue on the front struts with +48 offset 6.5" wide OEM steel wheels. BUT you may not be able to fit chains. See my build thread for pics on where the tyre is likely to rub.

Whether or not fitting chains is an issue for you is the question. For me it is, so 225s were out. I can still put chains on all 4 wheels, although strut clearance is bare minimum at the front.

Running 215/65r16 Bridgestone D697s.

Yeah poor lil froggies :rotfl:

Do you mean 225/75/16?

Width wise it will fit with the right offset. Guys on OzFoz routinely go 235/45/18.

Diameters:
225/75/15: 28.3"
225/75/16: 29.3"

225/75r15 is also a valid tyre size.

Of course it is, I thought it might have been a typo as the SG uses 16" wheels unless you have swapped them. 15" is better for offroad as it bags out more :iconwink:

i put a 15" wheels for only one reason: tire option

here is the "end of word" in 16". I have only 1 option - Toyo Open Country 215/70r16

in 15" the list is bigger

I in doubt between BF Goodrich A/T 215/75r15 or General Grabber 225/75r15

I in doubt between BF Goodrich A/T 215/75r15 or General Grabber 225/75r15

Do you mean General Grabber AT or AT2 ?

I had the BF AT for 60'000 km, very happy with them but not too good in mud.

Now I have the Grabber AT and they are much smoother and better in mud (and snow !) but had 1 side wall puncher.

The yoko geolander at comes in a 235/60R16, just over 27" total which in my mind is the ideal rollong diameter. Someone put them on :) My Coopers are wearing very well so far. Been punishing them with my new street/track brake pads and they're doing well even in the wet.

Coopers are good tyres but they're not cheap. My uncle had a set put on his Prado shortly before he wrote it off. Very knarly tread pattern for an AT, more hardcore than the Dueler and a lot more aggressive than a Yoko.

using a 215/75r15 or 225/75r15 fits on ET55 wheels or need spacer?

a friend have a 20mm spacer to sold so i'm thinking if is necessary
