Got dogs?

I asked him to grab me a wrench :) I am trying to train him to understand tool lingo, lol. So far he only knows to look where my tools are, but it's a start, haha.

-Jamie

That would be cool if you can teach him to fetch you tools. Maybe you need to lay them out on a rag or towel and go from there?

My GF and I foster dogs. Here's a photo of her dog (in the back) and our current foster Nelly (the brown one in the front.) Nelly is currently recovering from spay surgery. I can't wait til she heals up enough to play again, the girl has a ton of energy, I think she'll make a good mountain biking buddy.

Good on you for fostering!!! We were doing it for a while (puppies), and will do it again, think we're going to wait till our kids are out of school for the year so they can help out more.

Have a very ill puppy (9yrs old, but I still call her my little puppy) do deal with at the moment. Will know more on Thursday when she sees the surgeon I hope :o

That's not good!! What's wrong with her?
Not quite sure yet mate. It might be a pinched nerve or a possible slipped disk. But whatever it is it's effecting the nerves in her back hip.

A MRI/CT scan should tell us more. It would want to for the price !
I'm just hoping that I don't have to put her down

But on a brighter note, she's not in any pain thankfully. If she was, it would be a whole different story.

CAT scans and Lab tests

Gidday Mr T

I hope she is OK mate.
We know only too well how attached one gets to one's "babies". Ours are coming up for 13 y.o. in December ...

Have you got a result/diagnosis yet?

Remind me to tell you the joke about the Vet, the Lab test and the CAT scan; but today probably isn't the day for that one ... :(

br, RB.

Hope all is well and that the Vet has provided some good news for you today Mr T.

My dog has had a new nickname since last Thursday - Buckethead. He had an operation and has had 'the bucket' for a week now, and has it until next thursday. He'll be 14 at the end of the year.

Not exactly.
I do know more than the other day though, but still not enough
But so far so good :)
The X-rays show no cancers, no hip dysplasia, no arthritis & no slipped disc:banana:
However, there could be a small, very small bulging of one of the discs on the inside that doesn't show up on the X-rays.
She's now booked in for a CT/MRI scan next Thursday, which will tell us more.

The strange thing about it, is that there is no pain, which I must say is great.
If she was in any pain what so ever (like & as I said before) it would be a very different story. As much as I'd hate to do it, I couldn't & wouldn't put her through it.

Go for it mate :)

If it's the one I'm thinking of it's a beauty

I know from personal experience what that feels like ... :iconwink:

Not tonight, mate.
And I have to go do some "honest work" tomorrow ...

Hope things improve for your puppy.

Thanks aware & Ratbag :)

There's no improvement yet, still about the same.

She hasn't lost her attitude & playfulness though  She's still living up to her name :newmulti: "Springer" :newmulti: or at least she's trying too anyway, which is great :)
It just looks like she just has a couple of wobbly boots on.

Yes I can understand how that came about.
It's a bit like my ol' girl.
She has also gained a bit of a nickname too. Between myself, the vet's & nurses, we've started calling her "Mr Wobbles"

Well I hope Springer overcomes his wobbles soon. Sounds like the initial tests/x-rays went well, and very glad he's not in pain. Give him a big belly rub for me.

We'll all keep our fingers crossed for her, mate.

Sorry to hear about your dog's health Mr Turbo! I hope you find out what's causing her problems soon. Our old girl had vestibular disease, she was pretty wobbly when it struck!

Our old dog Maggie (15 years old) was just diagnosed with mammary cancer. Not a lot we can do for the old girl, besides make sure she's comfortable and cared for. She seems to be in good spirits. Sad to see this happen to her, she's a great dog...

Thanks bobbotron.

That vestibular disease sounds vaguely familiar for some reason.
I think it was one of the things that was mentioned to me the other day, of what it could be, by the vet.
The only difference is that it normally comes on gradually, where as in Springers case, it has been more of a rapid thing.

I'm so sorry to hear that mate  I know how you feel
One of my other dogs (about 20 years ago) ended up with leukemia.
As you said, there's not much you can do. Just try to keep them as comfortable much as possible

Maggie's vestibular came on suddenly, total loss of balance, vomiting, no appetite - I imagine I'd be in the same shape if I suddenly had no sense of direction! It subsided after a while and then came back a second time and subsided. Now she walks with a bit of a tilted head.

To lighten this thread up a touch, we have a new foster dog, a 7 month old Catahoula Leopard dog. She does great with Maggie, saves the mischief for us and dogs that'll play with her.

And how's your little guy going ? He must be getting big now :iconwink:

Our little guy is doing great, except she is a girl.:iconwink: She didn't get nearly as big as we thought she would, she's only about 23lbs (10.5kg), but she is awesome.

We also have a somewhat long term foster pup, welcome to Benny Beaglemix.

He kind of showed up around the neighborhood and we found a flyer where someone was looking for his owner. We put up another flyer and after a couple of weeks and no response, we got him to the humane society. Turns out he is heart worm positive, so we are seeing him through his treatment. When he is healthy enough to be adopted we'll see to it that he gets into a great home..............but...he might just already be there.:iconwink:

You are a top person carljwnc :)
I just wish there were more people who were willing to put in the time & effort to foster like you do :)
Hope everything goes well with his heart worm treatment :)
