Thought I'd keep the ball rolling after yesterdays trip and suggest a camp late Sep. I'm thinking the 26th/27th?

Someone yesterday mentioned an Abercrombie trip and that's an area I've been wanting to do for a while so that's as good a destination as any.

Trip I have in mind is from the same 4WD Treks book as yesterdays attempted trip. It starts and ends in Oberon. The circuit is ~151km with a camp around half way around. It's rated as Moderate difficulty with some steep sections. Vehicles with low range are recommended.

What do we think?

EDIT: Confirmed trip details:

Date: 26th Sep 2009
Meeting point: Apex Park, Carrington Ave Oberon
Meeting time: 9.30am
UHF ch: 15
Catering: BYO

If at all possible please bring firewood.

I think that was me. :)

Abercrombie is such a beautiful area. So you can count me in for sure. :raz:

Nothing & I mean nothing will stop me going on this trip. :woohoo:

Tempting, very tempting

Damo, it's all this house moving stuff. So much to be done, but it would be nice. Will see how things go.

Come on, you know you want to. The house will still be there when you get back and the following weekend is the Oct long weekend so you'll have an extra day to catch up.

Here's a trip report over at the Overlander forums (the only one I've found so far with working pics). https://forums.overlander.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=54558

Not the exact route but Abercrombie NP and The Beach campsite is the one I have in mind to stay at.

The Beach is quite good, but may I suggest another campsite called Silent Creek. I have stayed here a couple of times when I've been to Abercrombie. :)
It's absulutly beautiful, aswell as a bit larger, also I think you'll find that it's a little more sheltered too. :raz:

I'll leave it up to you though mate as you're running the trip. :) :iconwink:

I'll have a look & see what I can dig up from the trips I've done there.

I don't mind. We can check out both on the day as I don't believe they're that far apart and pick which one we prefer. I'd just heard more recommendations for The Beach than for Silent Creek.

Sounds good to me as I was thinking the same thing.
They are only about 4 or 5km's from each other.
I'll post up a pic of their location on a map I have of the area, just have to find the map now, but that shouldn't be too hard.

Here it is, I knew it wasn't too far. :raz:
If you look here there's a trip report of when I did a trip there in March of this year.

Don't expect too much of The Beach - I too prefer Silent Creek. You know what - as yet there is no weekend trip in the Subie Club that weekend apart from a Menia clean-up option on the Sunday; maybe we could do a combined Subie Club / ORS trip.

I like the idea of that, sounds good to me. :raz:

hey are these dates a definite? i'm pretty keen but i will have to arrange work around dates.

I'm flexible but those are my preferred dates. Weekend after is the long weekend and every man and his dog will be out camping which hopefully means the weekend earlier will be nice and quiet.

Don't mind if others want to come along.

Oh, how I wish I could come on this. From November onwards I'll be able to start going on this trips, but at the moment, with school and exams, not at the moment.

The Subie Club committee has agreed it can be posted as a combined trip on the club site. If OK here I'll nominate myself as trip leader from the club's perspective for coordination with members.
