What have you done to your car today?

Things have been moving very slowly as I am still waiting for parts from the UK. The exhaust is now back on the car- except for the heat shield for the turbo which is loosely mounted. The first picture is of the discarded parts

On the left is the outlet from the airbox, and you can also see the old turbo inlet hose.

On the next photo, you can see how tight it is getting the turbo inlet hose in and around the new fuel rail, the inlet manifold and the power steering pump. You can see the adaptor I had made up from the turbo inlet pipe to mate up with the elbow coming out of the air box (Elbow removed for this shot). I have just purchased a whole steering system and front cross member from an 06 STI. Importantly, the power steering pump allows more room for the turbo inlet hose- and the rack apparently is a quicker ratio but this is yet to be confirmed. You can see also where I have raised the coolant fill tank, and used the phenolic spacers to keep the heat from the manifold

I have not yet finished making up the fuel hoses- I will wait until the manifold is in. At present, it is just sitting there while I check a few things.

That is about it for now. I hope these parts arrive soon as I want to get the car back on the road

Installed the new Kenwood speakers yesterday, front & back. I have to admit i had forgot how nice it was to have quality sound in a vehicle! The shoddy factory speakers were on their last leg.

Well...after spending two months rebuilding my motor and getting the car going again...the front diff grenades itself.
****ing Subarus and their crappy made-of-glass drivetrains.

Gonna do a gearbox swap and just sell the bloody thing. Never again with a Subie...

Sorry to hear. I give both my Subarus a good run- you may have seen some of the videos of me launching the Impreza. I rarely hear of people doing front diffs- i think Kevin is the only other person who has done one and his car has done a few k's. Gearboxes- well, that is another story. Even so, I know a bloke who had a dual range gearbox in his turbo charged Outback- did a few motorkhanas even and never had a problem. Anyway, all the best

Finally got our family mechanic/ good friend free for a weekend & he was able to get the rear driver side wheel bearing replaced. My gaaaaaah she's rollin smooth now! Just in time for us to head to Red River this weekend too.

Installed my ebay Borla Replica headers/extractors. Was quite easy especially with 2 people.

Sounds bloody awesome!!!!!! :cool::lildevil:
My mother said with the muffler on it sounds like there something wrong with the car
Now have the muffler off to be a real tool but it sounds so awesome, like a wrx. You can really hear the boxer rumble

A few bits to address...on my ej22'd hatchie

Found a few in the oil pan. #4 cyl. 30psi compression test...:surprised:

Note: the ring land broken/rings. The underside of the piston and chunk that came out..

My special tool I fabbed to removed the wrist pins( I used a socket slipped over the rod as a slide hammer).

I noticed abit of missfire and blowing alot of smoke..much like a James Bond getaway..

I'm still amazed how well this engine ran on 3cyl. one tough EJ22!!!:lildevil:

So the rebuild begins.. #4 piston, rering kit, headgaskets, valve stem seals.

Great stuff

The boxer burble is a dieing sound these days unfortunately :(
That very true unfortunately, as there's nothing better than hearing the great sound of the boxer burble note :)

You can hear the car atleast 3 streets away :raspberry:
If its too loud, then you can always just turn the volume up a little :lildevil:

Gave my Forry some fresh oil & changed the oil filter today together with a new air filter aswell :)
I'll put some injector/petrol additive in too tomorrow, when I fill it up on my way to the mountains for a game of golf that I have planned, with some of my work mates

Busy weekend under the Dulagarl.

the rear bar skin is being painted, so while it was off I took the opportunity to:

1. Seal up the little vent thingys that let air out when the door is closed, and let water in at deep water crossings. By the amount of much in the quarter panel this had been an issue previously.

2. Install some heat shielding above the rear muffler: it seems that when the custom system went in there was no shielding put in. This resulted in the black tar like goo insidfe the cargo area becoming sticky with exposure to heat. I got some shielding for nothing and installed it.

3. Installed a diff breather tube. i sincerely hope its the last time I have to do it becuase it ****s me. Did it on the red forester about a year before I sold it. Worst part of the job is pushing the breather cap back in once it has a tube in it.

Pretty happy with all of that.

Sounds like you had a busy, but a very fruitful w-end Dulagarl :) :iconwink:

And yes I know what you mean by getting the breather cap back in once it has a tube in it (I've fitted about 10 of them now to various Subi's)

Sometimes it goes in the first go but other times it's a real :censored: getting them in :furious:

For the first time in weeks- I started the Impreza. But I won't be able to drive it until the end of the month as my tuner is very busy. Besides, there is more work to be done, such as installing an 06 STI clutch slave cylinder and some other bits and pieces.

Impreza is just about ready to go to the tuners. Because the new injectors are about twice the size of the original injectors, the car is running very rich and is even fouling the plugs. It may look reasonably similar to before (Strut brace will be installed once back from the tuner) but there have been a number of changes under the bonnet.

1)New turbo
2)New fuel rails with new top feed ID injectors
3)New fuel lines/hoses
4)New rising rate fuel regulator
5)06 STI clutch master cylinder and lines- to clear Process West TMIC
6)New drive belts
7)New breather hoses and oil catch can installed
8)New air intake, including silicon turbo intake hose.

Inlet manifold can now be removed a lot easier than previouslt

Cheers Carl. The tuner will have the car for a few days to get the cold start right. Trouble there is it is pretty warm now and sometimes- like tonight- it won't get below 20 degrees, which will not help on a cold winters morning in the highlands. I have two more modifications in mind over this summer. One is a quicker steering rack because there are too many turns lock to lock- mainly moticeable on the skidpan. The other is a baffled sump to handle motorsport. That should pretty much do it as I really don't feel the car needs to be developed further.

Looking good Rally.
I can almost see the giant grin you're going to have when you take it out for the first drive once it's tuned

Have a look at the coolant tank and where it mounts to the inlet manifold. You'll see some phenolic spacers there. Combined with the now "dry" inlet manifold and similar phenolic spacers between the inlet manifold and the cylinder heads it should keep intake temperatures lower than what they otherwise would be. Another advantage of the spacers is that it allows the coolant tank to clear the fuel rails.
