What have you done to your car today?

Got bored yesterday so painted all the things...
Also managed to change the rear diff oil. It was disgustingly black, watery and full of shavings... Should hopefully mean the LSD will work a bit better now.

Looks awesome, love the cam cover! Unfortunately the vLSD is a sealed unit so changing the oil won't make it any more effective... but it will make your diff last longer!
I changed all the oils on my Vitara recently too, real mission as unlike my old Subie (which only required the transaxle and rear diff done, manual trans) it has separate front diff, gearbox, transfer case and rear diff oils!

Anyway, a couple of days ago I installed a snorkel. Needed a bit of kiwi ingenuity at one point... The pop rivets for the A pillar bracket were waaaaaaay too tough for my crap Mitre 10 rivet gun (and puny biceps) to handle. What to do? Crank out your granddad's old early 90s Proracks, slide them over the end of your rivet gun and voila, an ultra-torquey pop rivet gun! Worked too, I'm just glad I didn't break the gun!

matdaymon, that rear diff cover looks awesome, I'm gonna steal that idea!

kiwifoz, haha, Aussie ingenuity must be making it across the Tasman :raspberry:

Yesterday I broke a strut on mount cole...annoying thing is i wasn't even doing anything difficult. Well i think it was a strut or busted tophat bushing not sure yet haven't checked.

That's a bugger, Id.

Some things (like my back, for instance ... ) don't necessarily break when subjected to stress, even though that's when the damage is done. They break doing something normal later in the piece ... :iconwink: :(.

I hope it's not too serious, mate.

That broken axle is crazy, Apparently he wasn't doing anything difficult at the time either!

EDIT: Well my problem isn't anything major at all now I've actually checked it out. Just as busted sway bar link.

I don't know, but IIRC the axles on my '93 Impreza were thicker than the ones in Roo2, and it was a lot lighter, far less powerful car ...

That's a relief, Id. Good to hear.

Well last week I had my Blue L series wagon stolen they only managed to get it 250m down the hill before they left it in the middle of the road. ( Could you believe they actually pushed it past a police officer who thought it was there car.

Anyhow I woke up Wednesday morning to find that my white L series wagon had been stolen and this time they have managed to get it started and the cars gone it was not that flash bust besides one thing It had scorpion rims on it. They were in need of new paint but finding scorpions these days is not easy. I am just crossing my fingers that they just took it for a joy ride and do not know the value of the rims

Hope you'll find it on your tiny island (compared to the bigger one north) but thats really no luck.

Yes, that is unfortunate. Maybe some club locks for Christmas are in order?

Had a visit from the police late this afternoon. And was informed that my car had been burnt out . The scorpion rims are still on the car. Just wondering they have been burnt and the paint is burnt off. Would the heat from the car being on fire of warped the rims ?. Just wondering if it is worth while salvaging the rims and maybe the engine for parts.

Bloody hell you are not having a good run!! I hope they catch the scum that did it. Do you have any pictures of the car? It is very hard to assess and potential structural damage to rims from just 'burnt out' Still difficult from a picture but will give a better idea of the heat involved.

that really sucks..

looking at the typical pictures of burnt cars -- if it wasn't extinguished early, I doubt you could salvage much at all.

O Bioy - what a shame! Yes, I certainly hope they catch the mongrels!

Teki,

Hopefully the car has had a 'cool burn', and has mostly only burnt the interior. Scorpion wheels at least are steel, not alloy, so less likely to be affected. Also, wheels being at the bottom of the car, will also have a better chance of avoiding the hottest part of the fire, so possibly still usable. Of course, if the tyres caught fire and burnt, most likely stuffed.

Remember the car is still yours, for salvage or otherwise, if you have not got, or gone through insurance.

Beigewagon.

Yea problem is there's only really about 100C between the two metals to weaken them enough, and my opinion as a firefighter is your rims are most likely completely ruined if there's any sign of fire damage to the rubber.

Everything on a car burns really well, and the interior is great kindling to get it all going, so is all that oil and wiring in the engine bay. If you can't put it out with a 2kg extinguisher, or have the ability to put a great deal of water on it very quickly a car can be fully involved and lost in minutes.

But these thieves sound like idiots so it wouldn't surprise me if they couldn't even burn out a car properly.
