The Twinkmobile 2.0

I have recently bought a 1997 3.1L Turbo Diesel Holden Jackaroo. It's a manual with locking hubs in the front and an LSD in the rear. It's got 223K on the clock and has been serviced since new at Holden.

Current mods are: Redarc Dual Battery system, ARB compressor in the engine bay, Milford OEM cargo barrier and turbo timer.

Future mods are: roofbasket with ladders, sliders/side steps, 30mm lift front and rear, replacing the 30L auxiliary tank with a 60L one, awnings on the sides and rear, Bashplate install and plenty of lights!

Here's the photos I promised to post up for you mate!
So, finally there's some pictures of the new Twinkmobile.

A few from recent weekend camping trips.

It's current (as of Sunday), with the new HID spotlights, random aerials and 'new' roof rack.

what a sexy car! oh look! there's your car too!

Red was thinking sexy Falcon, Red likes a low, sleek offroader.

Looks like the Jack is planning on carrying a lot on its roof. Are those jerry can holders on the back there?

We're going to have to do some more camp trips soon, I'd like to see that falcon tearing up some dunes:lildevil:

This was the banner I got when I loaded this page
WA%20trip%20banner%201e.gif

seemed very appropriate.

it is a nice falcon, not as sexy as a Jackaroo though.

yeah jerry can holders, making ladders and mounting it properly and installing side steps and brush guards this weekend!

Cheers for that Red, I do tend to agree!

Dunno how my wagon will do in soft sand, but I've been told by RTV owners that it doesn't surprisingly well with the locked diff, provided you don't make too sharp a turn! Until the locker is in though, it'd be pretty hopeless! I'm keen to try it out somewhere like Lancelin though.

Perfect banner, gotta do a trip there again!

Of course not Steve :raspberry:

Looking forward to seeing the new additions!

it'll be interesting watching mike snatch you out

It will be interesting watching the rest of us tied together trying to snatch Twinklz heavy donkey out.

I won't be doing that! Don't want a bent chassis and I'll just conveniently claim inability of a 2WD to snatch him!

yeah it'll be interesting, hopefully my fuel economy isn't too badly affected

yyou keep saying your locked diff Will be good! use it to pull me out!

Why do i have to pull the Falcon out? Or the Jackaroo? I detest that! I agree with Steve :D

The roofrack does look great on it! But dont forget, the more crap ya put in and on your vehicle the worse the economy gets haha.

Negatives of stuff on your roof
More wind resistance -> worse economy
Stuff more likely to get stolen
Stuff can come loose if not tied down properly, especially over corrugations
Higher centre of gravity -> worse handling
-> More likely to tip over when when 4wding

... and from the ramp on the front it does look like your planning on stacking thinks pretty high. And heavy things like jerry cans will really shift your centre of mass up. Just be carefully mate, you're no longer in your low forester that remained stable while facing sideways on a sand-dune. Big 4wds do tip easily when they're lifted and loaded up high.

stuff that will be on the roof:Fuel, Swag, Food. Recovery Gear.

hopefully its not going to be too hard on the economy

Well that roof rack came off my Falcon and i had a large box behind the deflector that wrecked my fuel economy. So i fitted the deflector and it fixed it. (Falcon is for sale if anyone is interested!)

Cut it in half, then ya will only stack half the height of what you can currently!

Obviously it would be better if that stuff was inside the car (except for fuel which would ideally be in long range tanks or rear bar) But if your cars full you don't have many other options then roof or trailer, which both have their own pros and cons.

Personally I do think that it will have a large effect on fuel economy, on smaller cars just bare roof racks is meant to have a measureable effect on economy, large diesels tend to be less effected by things like that but you are adding a lot of extra drag.

edit- agree with Interceptor, cut it in half and lay stuff flat, then it won't be as bad.

I think it'll be alright, if not I'll figure something else out!

Guess youll do your due dilligence anyway.

The jerry cans are a touch higher than the deflector so if ya completley fill up the space behind the deflector to the jerry cans, itll be better than having gaps between as there can be turbulent sections in the rack between items. Drag is a funny thing.

Ideally, the Jack will be the reco vehicle for everyone. If it was a gentle tug I'd have a go at Mike's, and his being very close to the same weight as mine would be fine to give me a tug. My plan is not to get terribly stuck though!

yyou keep saying your locked diff Will be good! use it to pull me out!

Yeah the locked diff will be, but I don't have a chassis as strong as yours!

Kerb weight of mine is 1592kgs. Still lighter than the coon. You need recovery points before you can recover too.
Id rather get recovered by Steve anyway! Besides, I wont get stuck anyway. Cant forget to put it in 4wd anymore hehe :)
