The Twinkmobile 2.0

I have recently bought a 1997 3.1L Turbo Diesel Holden Jackaroo. It's a manual with locking hubs in the front and an LSD in the rear. It's got 223K on the clock and has been serviced since new at Holden.

Current mods are: Redarc Dual Battery system, ARB compressor in the engine bay, Milford OEM cargo barrier and turbo timer.

Future mods are: roofbasket with ladders, sliders/side steps, 30mm lift front and rear, replacing the 30L auxiliary tank with a 60L one, awnings on the sides and rear, Bashplate install and plenty of lights!

I haven't been there. That's were Tom struggled with his L-series and had the over heating issue. Apparently the beach can be easy, like a freeway sometimes but other times a real challenge.

White Hills is a good area for beach driving, I've been several times all at night for beach fishing with my mate... The South section has always been easy, but went North up to Tim's Thicket recently, and it was quite a bit harder, actually had to pay full attention to my driving, otherwise would've definitely got stuck - keeping the revs up is the key here otherwise you'll most likely get stuck - my mate was oblivious to the battle I was having in this area, he was fast asleep!

Cars underbody used to always 'scrape' along the sand ruts, but now with my lift it's fine...

Yeh I was scraping (ploughing) and stuck behind a few big 4bys in the ruts way up top of the beach. If I was more confident (I.e. nowadays) I'd give it some more revs and get closer to the waterline, where the sands a bit firmer.
But some days yes its a freeway, you'd get a commodore down there.(no ideas!)

Having a look on Google maps:Bananacomputer:, the beach looks wider and nicer down the south end of the estuary + there appears to be a little dune section. Maybe we should start down that end and work our way North as Twinklz gets better, then see how far the Subaru Jackaroo can make it:lildevil:!

Tim's Thicket is good.... done it heaps of time. Gone from there/White Hills all the way to Bunbury on the beach.

As said can be good at times and others it's soft as hell... I lost my first clutch on the beach there.... now it's not a problem with my grunty new motor.

Hahaha I'm pumped for this! Just need a heavy duty clutch and my lift kit in!

She's at the mechanic today getting serviced and thoroughly inspected. Should be interesting to hear the report.

^So it just needs a clutch and a lift, remember this moment, because I think you've already forgotten when it just needed a clutch. I sure hope you use it before the mods get out of hand.

Haha, besides the clutch and lift, there's just touring mods that I can do in the afternoon after work

Cool, Mandurah isnt too far, lemme know when you guys go!

The Jacka is pretty cool to drive, should be harder to get stuck i hope :P

Hahaha I think it's gonna be more suited to my driving style

Well its good cos his rig will weigh over half a tonne more than my OB when done and itll be a ******* to snatch. Unibody vs ladder frame... :(

So ya better not blinkin bog it Steve!! :P

If 2 L-series tied together couldn't get his Forester out, just image him in a Jackaroo...

This is sand 4wding, not horrible mud. For most bogs all you need is Maxtrax, but for bad bogs just a normal car jack with a plank of wood to put under it gets you up and out of it, maxtrax under the wheels and away you go. Much better than snatch straps that can snap and take someone out.
