WA crew - End of year get together

Damn, that's lucky! Yeah some good MTB tracks, especially the downhill track which is good fun.

It's not a matter of luck, at UWA we choose our timetables, some like to spread it out, but I like to cram it into as few days as possible;)

Cosy Corner seems to be the place to camp (just outside on the East side of West Cape Howe) it got toilets and other stuff and is free, but it gets packed over school holidays, so maybe its best if we wait until Feb.

The entire region looks great, so if there's anywhere anyone thinks we should stop off at while we're down there we should make a list.

Sounds like a plan. I've also heard Golden Gates Beach (4WD Only) is another good place to explore, but I'm not too sure how to get out there.

I think it works the same way for Curtin but for some reason they love to make it hard and minimise the amount of choices we have, thus why I have one lecture on tuesday and one on wednesday! From experience, I probably should go to them, otherwise I never end up catching up on them haha.

Golden Gates is the beach south of Bornholm(the hard one), if you look on google maps sattelite image you'll see a track into it.
It might be a good idea if one of us prints off some of google maps so we don't get too lost when we are there.

Ah cool, great view of the track from the satellite!

Yeah, good idea about the maps, although I do have a good mapbook for this area. Some detailed maps wouldn't be a waste though.

Is The Interceptor able to come for about a week during February?
And as always anyone else is still welcome to come.

Strewth you guys are serious on this trip, sounded pretty hard going by what blanket was saying haha.

TI - nice looking wagon you have there! Also, I'm down in Augusta from the 30th to the 10th so keen to explore some tracks around that way if you are!

Here is that video I was talking about, pretty good, shows you what it's all about: West Cape Howe National Park 2013 - YouTube

The tracks definitely look pretty challenging, some pretty deep ruts, but there is rubber matting in places. There is one point in the clip where a pathfinder (I think) struggles to get back up from the entrance as it's pretty soft sand and rutted, but he eventually makes it. The guy driving has a 100 series which weigh a fair bit, and he drove the same bit in hi-1st gear.

Thanks Sarge! Yeah that sounds brilliant, i have family arriving in roughly a week from the east coast and i dont have any time off work so ill have to see what will happen first..

So that vid doesnt show it too hardcore haha. The ruts are a bit concerning but dunno, lets all give it a whirl? haha.

Ah we shall see! I can likley but cant commit just yet. So you want to spend a week in the region yeah?

Just imagine how worth while it would be! Great to hear your interested too! Not sure what the plan is, guess it's hard for you taking a week off, so maybe a couple days? I know it's going to be hard/impossible to get more time off work for myself, seeing as I've already asked for heaps of time off already during Jan/Feb, so I'm probably in the same boat.

Yeah, no worries.

Yes we are serious about this trip!

I suppose a week might be a bit long, I think three days would be enough time to do all the major things down there, we could probably squeeze it into 2 days if we had to, if we could do a week i would have stopped off at all the tracks between Perth and Albany, so we should aim for 3 days.

And you two can decide on dates as I spent the year saving up so I wouldn't have to work over the Holidays (That's called planning ahead) and that's why I wouldn't mind spending a week on even a month down there.

Well that was smart! I've planned this Summer to work half and have the other half off, which I think will work alright. But then again, the work part involves being down in Augusta and probably some 4WD'ing so it's not that bad!

Coupla days sounds good to me, plenty of time!

Yeah two or three days sounds good!
Gee good stuff, i dont have any holidays till Feb i believe..darn it.. But if theres 4wding in the meantime then its alright haha.

I'm keen for this trip too, if it's the second weekend of feb I can do Friday morning to Monday arvo, third weekend have to be back Monday morning and last weekend I can only do the weekend.

What works for you guys?

I can do any of them, so my vote will be the 2nd weekend because it's the longest.

But you were the original planner of this trip!

I know another L series driver, (not on this forum yet) who is interested in the trip but will have to meet us down there Saturday afternoon and be back for Monday.

Is anyone else interested?

Since Sarge isn't going, is there anywhere else people would like to go for a 1-2 nighter trip?
I was thinking somewhere with wider tracks that won't have trees gouging straight through the paint and into the metal, but still very challenging and with plenty to do!

Start listing suggestions ...

Let's make it the (edit) LAST weekend then so Sarge can come.

I can do Friday afternoon and be back in perth by Sunday night.

So 21-23 of Feb,
Also, I was looking at the Yeagarup-D'entrecateaux-Walpole area, we could do a tour along that stretch of coast. It has a variety of sand dunes, beaches, forests with really big trees in them, soft looking sand, rocky stuff and wider tracks. It's a larger area and might fill our time up better (or might not get completed like Pines - Wilbinga)
Would others be interested in this?

Whoops, sorry! Didn't 100% know if I was actually going, only decided last week. Although I will probably be broke, I am still keen to go!

Yeah, this place is wicked too! I like the foresty tracks with some harder rock sections. Yeagarup has an awesome dune system...
