Guide to 15" Audi rims that fit over Subaru 4 pot brake

Bit of feedback on these wheels. I have done a few thousand kms on them now and I am really impressed.

The aluminium hub centric spacers mean they locate properly on the hub and give no vibration.

The offset is perfect. Far better clearance from the chassis rail and struts but still well within the guards.

the R12 wheel nuts are definitely the wrong radius but they seem fine to me.

Overall very happy with them.

Lol ...Fit em anyway Lefty.

205/75 R15 Firestone Destination AT, Dueller on the spare. Spare fits in the spare wheel well even fully inflated. The 4 pot brakes clears....only just!
Used washer adapters from Mr Lugnut and hubcentric rings from ebay

Stilson,

In other news, the ball seat conversion spacers arrived from Mr Lugnut today.

$1.30 each, plus postage of $12.00. they came in an express post bag.

They are referred to as a "VW Radius Washer".

I found the company very good to deal with. Find out more about their products at:

cost $40.70 shipped to Perth

very sexy.
Interesting my rims were made in Hungary not Germany

Wouldn't mind a set of these. I'm trying to find something with a rugged offroad sort of look for my L series. The best looking wheel for the L series (in my opinion) is the good old Sunraiser style steelies. Simple, common, suit the old-school boxy shape of the L series perfectly. Trouble is I'm running 5x100 hubs and it is 100% impossible to get those wheels in that stud pattern - I've searched around lots.
I want to have 15" wheels so I can get ~28" tyres. I've run 14's / 27's before, and also 15's / 29's on my car and want to go in between this time.

So these Audi rims do have quite a simple look and I don't mind them at all. I knew about them, but hadn't seen this thread before - I wasn't aware they clear 4pot calipers, that's a great bonus! My car currently has RS Turbo 2pot brakes but I'd love to put the wrx 4pots on - I run these on my other car and they are fantastic brakes.

Trouble is, where can I get a set? Doesn't seem to be any on Gumtree, even searching interstate. I think I'll have to resort to phoning wreckers who deal with Audi's!

They're hard to come across. Most dealerships put mag wheels on and sent these to the recycle. They come up, just a matter of keeping an eye out for when it happens.

There's a blue Audi A3 in Abbotsford st North Melb, near corner Arden St. Has these wheels. Just sayin.

The wheel caps are available on ebay, but they need some modification.

This is the deal for about $27 on ebay delivered:

Seller is very quick to post them and they arrive in good nick.

a link to them is here:

The reason they have to be modified is that the lugs on the back are so long that they cap won't sit flush against the Audi wheel. BUT: if you cut them just long enough they will sit flush but not clip in place.

SOLUTION:

First cut the lugs at the point where they taper, retaining one of the raised hemispheres on each lug. The lug on the right has been cut.

Then, get a couple of joiners for 40 mm plumbing pipe. They are the exact size to insert partially into an SF Forester hub. (I don't know about other models).

The joiners look like this:

For the SF forester, I cut them at 16 mm, and used a mitre saw to make sure the cuts were square.

Then glue the pipe to the back of the cap. Obviously you need to rough up the surface with a dremel or such to get the glue to bind. I used a 2 part epoxy liquid steel type glue, mainly because it dries quickly and works well.

When gluing, the metal ring inside the cap works as a guide to make sure the cap is centered on the pipe.

These caps fit VERY snugly, so you need to account for variations in temperature in the hub, otherwise the caps will pop off. I dealt with this by cutting notches that corresponded with the lugs, to allow a tight fit, and drilling holes next to the lugs to allow expanded air to escape.

Go for a drive before you fit them, and fit them when the wheel and hub is warm. Let it cool, go for another drive and check them all: you might have to give them a shove to re-seat them, but they should then be fine. I have offroaded with mine and had no problems.

In my opinion, they look great and are very functional. My partner says they look like something that you would pay Subaru a lot of money for. I think sh'es right.

They also perfectly match my metallic blue paint!
