Guide to 15" Audi rims that fit over Subaru 4 pot brake

So by using an M12x1.25 R12 wheel nut on our Foresters we are not properly fastening the wheels the rotors. Is that a problem, I don't know? I abuse my wheels pretty hard at times and don't exactly want to crack one or have a studs break. That said, members have been running this combo for some time with no reported failures.

I'm running the Otis R12 nuts and have put them through some serious abuse, both on balck & double black diamond tracks & even worse, on severely corrugated tracks in the outback, esp Gunbarrel Hwy. No problems. I agree though that if they are R13 it is best to use them

option #372 would be to turn/machine a R13 seat in readily-available conical nuts.

Yes, that's what I'm thinking

The first Engineering workshop I approached about Option #372 refused to do it. Apparently, it is illegal to perform that modification without engineering approval.

Fortunately this prompted me to remember someone who has the equipment and is willing to have a crack. I have purchased a set of 24 open ended M12x1.125 19mm hex 60 degree tapered nuts and will report back here if we succeed in machining them down to a R13 Radius seat.

Gentlemen, what you see here may well be the only set of high tensile steel M12x1.25 R13 19mm Hex Wheel nuts in the world.....

Great work Liberty Valance!! Hopefully this will be the solution to the problem of trying to graft Audi Rims to a Subaru!! :)

Awesome!!

I checked my wheels, the R12 nuts are only gripping the inner part of the seat but doesn't seem to be any negative effects of this & I've been running them for a few years now including 10,000kms of relentless corrugations on the Subaru Extreme trip last year. Looks like R13 will be better

Great thread info. Been on the hunt for new wheels these past few weeks and have settled on Pepperpots for my SG. They don't seem too hard to find if you search wrecking ads, there's 2 sets in Vic at the moment. *Update - One already sold, one asking $$$, search continues*

Liberty Valance, sorry but the Czechs beat you to it! :raz:

And one more Czech site selling the same product

Google exchange rate puts the cost of the wheel nuts at around $10AUD - Shipping no doubt many times that (although Europe always seems cheaper than US) but possibly worth the gamble. Using Chrome browser to translate the page for easier navigation, I was able to input international shipping information but had difficulty selecting shipping type, also no Paypal. Maybe someone who is ready to buy some now could have a try. Or anyone got family in Prague?

Not sure I'm really excited about copper wheel nuts when the Australian Standards call for high tensile steel

However I've edited my previous post for accuracy:biggrin:

Ahh. I thought it might only be a copper layer. Possibly back to square one regardless. No point risking a canary for wheel nuts.

Also, retract previous comment that these wheels are easy to find - they get nabbed up quick. Have found 4 sets on a3 wrecks but they had all been sold.

You need to brush up on your Czech

"Nut M12x1,25 spherical R13 open with copper surface finish, key 19 (B0010-015) height 26"

"Special nuts with copper coating are used especially in motor sport for copper properties as conductors for excellent heat dissipation."

(ok - I cheated and used google translate)

After doing my own search I realised that Liberty Valance has already said it all and gone with the best solution. Updated options are:

- R12 Otis nuts are not quite the right radius but from forum members experience they seem to be an easy and safe option for getting these wheels on the car.
- Conversion washers are cheaper and locally sourced but are also R12 radius, a bit weaker than nuts and mean slightly less thread engagement.
- Having your own made from 60 degree tapered nuts ala Lib Valance is time consuming but the best inexpensive option without making modifications. Problem is finding someone willing to do it.
- Neither of those Czech websites with the right size nuts will ship to Aus.
- Drilling rotor hats and converting to 14mm studs and 14x1.5 R13 nuts, sounds expensive and difficult but means wheels are as they were OEM. Also means you could probably find spare nuts if you ever needed to, I think Porsche run that size.

There is no cheap and easy option. Personally I'm going to give a hotrod shop in town a call and see if they might make some for me, if not I'm probably just gonna get the Otis wheel nuts...They are $138 shipped at current conversion rates. Shipping goes up with every extra set so not a lot of value in a small group buy.

Doing a group buy does work, it's what we did & saved a heap on shipping which only goes up a little for every extra set

Atm there are at least 4 people with Audi rims who need nuts. Make sure you get spares, I suggest a set of 22 not 20

Audi Nuts - temp storage until I decide what to do with

Hi guys
From France I can buy from Czechs. (https://shellers.cz) and a shipment from France to Australia is 40 € for less than 2kg (25-30 nuts)

I will order these nuts for my Audi wheels that I bought for my forester. I bought adapter washers but they get stuck on the studs when tightening (deformation) and disassembling a wheel is a ****.

So I will order for me in January, if several people in Australia want to buy, I can order more and send them to you.

my Audi compatible rims are Rial Milano in 5x100, 6x15 "and et29
With Hankook 235 / 75R15 tires :p

Is that $10 AUD per nut? Plus freight if it can be organised for 40 euros?

i.e. $200 for 20 nuts plus 40 euros ($61.59) = $270 for 20 nuts delivered?

golly!

Seems correct imho....
Much Money for a few nuts....

Nice pics !
NachaLuva, your exhaust seems very low ?!

I'm gonna take a guess and say that actually the body is a bit higher, rather than the exhaust low..

going a bit OT here -- but I have the same issue to a lesser extent.

Liberty stock exhaust on an outback -- the exhaust sits at chassis level and could be tucked into the body more tightly.

I think the final touches on a body lift should include tucking the exhaust up. It'll still hang lowest at the rear diff, but the rest will be much less exposed.
