Metal Detecting

Sweet finds! My heart would have skipped a beat with that gold ring too. Thanks for postin' your finds, they're motivating me to set aside some time to use my detector soon . I picked up a MineLab a couple of years ago for benchmarking, I've yet to use it for anything else.

Lots of sweet spots in the U.S.A for detecting

I will be up in the golden triangle here in Victoria in a couple of weeks from today to do mainly relic hunting, i will detecting some old miners camps and ghost towns. Then i am off to explore some old Cobb and Co change over stations in N.S.W from the 1800's, then hopefully some permission to do some derelict farm houses.

There was a new Minelab GPX 5000 recently on eBay, went for $4000...retail is $6700 so someone got a bargain. Bit much for me though :rotfl:

There are some chinese knock offs going around, i hope this wasnt one of them  thats alot of money knocked off even if it was second hand.

I use a minlelab CTX3030 $2650, and i am after paying this off with finds getting a GPX5000 as intend to spend alot more time hunting the yellow in the future.

12years ago i owned a top of the range Minelab GP Extreme and spent quite a few years before that hiring detectors and alot of time in the bush. Busting up my neck put paid to metal detecting for awhile.

I think we have only seen the sun 3 or 4 times in the last 6 weeks here on the Sunshine Coast and one of those was yesterday which allowed me to get a game of golf in ... phew!, only just made it, it's raining again today.

subyroo... had my folks come to stay for a week and a half... my Mum's statement 3 days in... "I've never seen rain like it...!" To which I replied... I have... In Queensland :-).... BUT I never complain about the rain.. because sometimes it can be a very long time between wet patches! My theory is, it's not that cold really... just get out amongst it!

Well not only does this hobby pay for itself in alot of ways, but after being asked to enter my Transvaall War Medallion i found recently into a competition, it has won me 1st prize in a find of the month comp. I have also been asked to submit it for the Miners Den Newsletter another $25 and the medal is worth by appraisal 200+ brit pounds maybe more seeing as its the only one that can be found in circualtion with Victoria one side and Baden Powell on the other, most have one or the other.
