New Forester Coming Soon!!

Yeah

That last image of the X looks really nice to me with the steel wheels. Please have low range, please, please, please...

Having wished for low range I read this...

"The new AWD control system "X-MODE" has been developed for the driving on uneven or slippery road condition. Engine, Transmission and VDC are controlled cooperatively.

The system simulates various road conditions. By pushing "X-MODE" button, any driver can use the system easily and make the vehicle stable.

The system also has the hill descent control mode which can maintain the same vehicle speed when driving down a steep hill."

So maybe this 'X-mode' is all we will get as far as low range transmission. Also noticed on the Forester X image there are no roof rails as standard and the blurb says Roof Rails are optional.

Shame if so, unless the system turns out, in company with CVT, to be simply amazing. Still. I'm never likely to buy a slush box.

16 inch steel wheels thats good new

From what ive read the steel wheels will be 17in hey and youl see in pics they look differant hey..

Me neither.

I call SWMBO's SH "An XS with the Accountant's pack". A whole raft of little niceties that are present in my XS have disappeared ... Last seen by an accountant in the product costing section of Subaru ... :iconwink:.

Things like the mirror mounted indicators, all the little cargo floor lids, temperature gauge (FCOL ... ), frame-less windows.

Some things are undeniably better in the SH models than the SG models, but some are not ... Crying shame to me that they seem to think that throwing some new things in allows them to remove other useful things. IMNSHO, the accountants/designers should build on the strengths of what they have, rather than playing this sort of game.

Really ratbag?? our SH has side mirror mounted indicators and a temperature guage.

That was an interesting read :)
I am surprised though, with it being offered & available in both a 2.0lt & 2.5lt for the N/A
However, what I find most interesting (& somewhat strange) is that the sporty petrol turbo XT in now only going to be a 2.0lt
I'm guessing (& hoping) that it's a typo though  as it does say it will be a 2.5lt turbo in the other review.

Good to see it still has a full size spare! So many vehicles just give you a can of tyre weld now or a stupid space saver wheel. A mate of mine jut bought a new Isuzu Dmax double cab pickup for his fencing business( may be a Holden in au) and that has no spare, just a can of tyre weld.

Be good to see one for real, the more pictures I see, the more I like it.

Just saw the Subaru blurb which says that the XT (the US version, anyway) will be 2L and 250 HP, comes with either the CVT or 6-speed manual, and will tolerate regular gas. The CVT wil have paddle shifting and a choice of 6- or 8-speed shifting. Looks interesting.

G'day vwvanguy & :welcome: to ORS.

It sure does sound interesting thats for sure :)

Aussie reviews on the New Forester-https://www.goauto.com.au/mellor/mellor.nsf/story2/B583A43019F6BC07CA257AC60026779A & https://www.caradvice.com.au/203546/2013-subaru-forester-review/ sounds pretty good all 4 motors for Aust, pity there will be no Auto Diesel option..

Humm, I must say I am a little disappointed....

- No more low-range?? BIG minus
- Turbo's a 2.0L?? Big minus - I know it's more powerful than my 2.5XT, but nothing a tune of my engine wouldn't fix. Not so sure about the 2.0L capabilities
- No Auto on the Diesel??? BIG BIG minus. I was actually hanging out for this one to consider my replacement vehicle in a year or so.

It just feels like the Foz is progressively going main-stream and moving away from its niche market roots. Soon enough Subaru and Toyota will be working together developing the next gen as a twin Forester - Rav4 vehicle. SAD SAD Days....

Pedro.

Humm, I must say I am a little disappointed....

I'm not quite so pessimistic.

- No more low-range?? BIG minus

The 1.2:1 low range in my car helps a bit, but is not a big enough reduction to make much difference. With the new 6-speed manual, the first gear might be lower than first high in the 5-speed. We'd need to know the ratios (including final drive) to make a true comparison. The auto will probably remain the better bet for offroad crawling and climbs anyway.

- Turbo's a 2.0L?? Big minus - I know it's more powerful than my 2.5XT, but nothing a tune of my engine wouldn't fix. Not so sure about the 2.0L capabilities

The new 2.0 turbo may still have decent torque characteristics (ie a 'flat' curve).

- No Auto on the Diesel??? BIG BIG minus. I was actually hanging out for this one to consider my replacement vehicle in a year or so.

There have been reports of an auto diesel Outback coming (eg https://www.goauto.com.au/mellor/mellor.nsf/story2/3E6633EF3EF4ABF4CA2579FF002041BC), so we know it's at least technically possible. Sounds like it won't be available at launch for the new Forester but maybe it won't be far off. I'm hanging out for it too!

Actually, I reckon going back to 2.0L for the turbo is a good thing. Fuel isn't getting any cheaper (nor is it becoming any more plentiful). If they can get decent power and flat torque curves out of it whilst reducing fuel consumption then that is good enough for me.

However I don't think it looks particularly good and I don't really like the fact that it's pushing 1600kg now. I feel that it will lose some of it's "chuckability".

The centre of gravity looks higher too which may affect it's surefootedness.

I have been thinking about what I'd replace my SF5 GT with lately (26 months to go until car swap time again), but I always end up baffled. I will always drive a turbo though, it's part of my DNA. Some of the dual-cab turbo-diesel utes have caught my eye but they lack the on road dynamics of a Subaru and worst of all, they suck bulldust in through the trayback so your camping gear will go red and dusty (even with a canopy).

Oh I wish Subaru would make the perfect car for me......like a turbo XV!
