Central locking & remote & done lights not working

OK. From what I can determine, the "seat belt timer" looks like the control for the seat belt warning light.
I spoke to my mate (the electronic guru) at work today & the big round black thing (inside it) at the top is actually a buzzer.
So I'd say, yes your right :)
The control for the seat belt warning light & buzzer alarm for when you don't have your seat belt on :)

Well I finally bit the bullet & took my Forry to the dealer for them to source out the exact problem :bcool:
It is what I initially though & what I dreaded it was going to be

Turns out that I need a new key less entry module :yell:
And they're not cheap :surprised:
The dealer quoted me $720.13 for a new one :surprised::eek: And thats just for the part :eviltoyou: Thankfully I can fit it myself

Looks like I'll be hunting around a few wreckers first I think. Because I'll be :censored: if I'm going to pay that much for one :furious:

You got that right :furious:

Thanks mate :)

While I think of it, does anyone know where a good wreckers yard is in the Sydney area for Subi's ??

Regards
Mr Turbo

Try gumtree and Ebay and see if there are any wrecked vehicles. Wreckers will usually charge a fortune and the ones ive been to the people are all rude :censored:, maybe its because im young..

Oh and good luck with the hunt mate!

Didn't even think of Gumtree :)
Thanks Taza, I'll give that a shot :)

PIA! We had basically ruled everything else out so were on the right track - unfortunately! Will the keys need to be reprogramed to the replacement module I wonder? I've not used them but try Brookvale Spares (at Smithfield) https://www.brookvalespares.com.au/products.asp

They used to have a good reputation for Subie spares (when they were actually at Brookvale)

Thanks Kevin :)

I'm going to give Brookvale Spares a call later.
Subaru at Tom Kerr also recommended them & suggested I give them a call.

I've just got to check out one thing though. The part # they gave me is slightly different to the one thats on the actual part itself.
Their number is........ 88039SA010
Number on actual is.. 88035SA020

So I'm going to drop into the parts department to check which is which.

Hopefully it's just a model thing (Turbo vs N/A) & both are compatible.
As long as they both have the same plug, they should be (I hope)

And yes I'm fairly sure the keys will need to be re-programed.

BUMMER!!!

AND that price ... :shake: :madred: :yell: :furious:

I suppose one can be grateful that one doesn't drive a Panzerwagen (chipped key only $1,100~1,200) or an Audi (ditto, ~700) ...

BTW, if you want me to make a few phone calls to the local wreckers when you have the correct part number, just ask ... Postage wouldn't be very much on top of that, I wouldn't think.

I was going to get another key for my Forester as I only got one when I bought it but they quoted $550 for a key, not programmed or anything at a dealer in Perth. I didn't bother. I have better things to spend $500+ on and can live with one..

Locksmiths can clone your existing key into a chipped one for about $125. I got a third key made when I bought Roo2 (2 for me, one for SWMBO).

I also had a "normal" key cut for about ?$10~15. It will open the door, but will not start the car. It lives in a Keytainer on the car.

Ive got a normal key so I can atleast get in the car if need be. If worst comes to worst I can call road side assistance but atleast I can get in with the other key

I have found with my one genuine the central locking is pretty average. If im standing just behind the car near the boot it doesn't work and if im more than 6m away it doesn't work, maybe the battery needs replacing. Never been changed but who knows... Im not trying to steal your thread Mr T :iconwink:

The central locking on the later ones (mine included) that have the aerial in the rear P/S quarter window will work from about 20~30 metres away, all directions.

I cannot get to the car before it locks itself again automatically!

My mate's late 1990's Liberty barely works from next to the car!

Mine has an aerial in the P/S rear quarter panel too. IM 90% sure its for the raqdio as I have no other aerial for the radio and on the older foresters (pre 2000) they had an actual aerial on the front P/S fender and nothing in that quarter panel.

Might try and change the battery and see what happens though as ive never changed it and it get more use than my mobile phone

Thanks for the offer Ratbag, it's very muchly appreciated :yourock:
It turns out that the part has been superseded & both will work :iconwink:
Good Luck finding one at the wreckers.

Oh and good luck with the hunt mate!

Hope you find one soon :iconwink:
Thanks guys

It must be my lucky day I think :raz:
I made one phone call & found one 1st off & less than 15km's away :woohoo:
Plugged it in & presto, the console/dome light came on & the central locking button worked :monkeydance:
The price wasn't too bad either :)
Mind you, it still cost me $220, but thats heaps better than the $720 the dealer, (correction the stealer) wanted ;)

Now I just have to reprogram the key so that it recognizes it :raz:

That's all sounding very positive mate.

How is the key re-programmed to the lock?
